  • The City of Mobile opened its second Safe Haven Baby Box. If you're unfamiliar, a Baby Box is a place where parents can anonymously and safely leave newborns without fear of prosecution.
While it’s hard to imagine the circumstances these parents must be facing, we know these boxes have already helped save 217 babies across the United States.
The latest box in our community is located at the Mobile Fire-Rescue Department’s Crichton Fire Station on Davenport Avenue. The men and women of MFRD are highly trained, compassionate individuals who are dedicated to saving lives and serving Mobilians. We are already incorporating Baby Boxes into the designs of two future MFRD stations.
State Rep. Donna Givens, who spearheaded the legislation that made Safe Haven Baby Boxes an option for struggling parents in Alabama, joined us for this morning's celebration. Safe Haven Baby Box Founder Monica Kelsey also attended the celebration in Mobile to bless the box. Monica’s story is deeply moving. She was abandoned as a child by a young mother facing incredibly difficult circumstances. Since 2016, she has worked to bring hope to struggling parents and save the lives of children. Her passion for this work is undeniable, and her testimony is inspirational.
