I read a Sci-Fi novel when I was a kid. The hero had a trained wolverine when he travelled to alien worlds. The author's take was that a wolverine could whip anything in the universe.

@@CompetetiveRedditUser23 It could have been a short story...I read a lot of sci-fi anthologies.

Both mustelids are quite formidable but the wolverine is far more adept as a predator.
A forced arena Wolverine vs. Honey Badger battle would be a long battle due to the tenacity of the honey badger, but it would still be very one sided. A honey badger's only chance for victory would be delivering a fatal injury, and then being able to avoid the wolverine until it bleeds out. This would be a rare chance for the honey badger so I give a 9.5 / 10 victory odds to the wolverine. I give my reasons below (lengthy):
*Wolverines are superior predators to honey badgers in nearly every way.*
    - Superior strength, endurance, durability, agility, speed, predatory weapons, size, & predatory instincts. Wolverines are one of the few animals with a greater fighting endurance than honey badgers. Both animals are intelligent and it is not known which is greater in this regard.
    - Wolverines can weigh between 22 to 66 pounds. Honey badgers can weigh between 13 to 30 pounds.
    - Puppies have smaller, sharper teeth than dogs, the same is true between honey badgers (smaller, sharper, weaker bite force - like puppy teeth) and wolverines (larger teeth, less sharp, stronger bite force, able to grind through frozen moose bones).
    - Wolverines have a bite force over 50 pounds (224 newtons). Honey Badgers have a bite force around 47 pounds (210 newtons).
    - NOTE: There is another source that rates wolverine bite force at 1,720 PSI and the Honey Badger at 1,300 PSI. (found at: WildLifeBoss - Wolverine Vs. Honey Badger: 11 Differences (Size, Fight etc.)) It’s worth noting that the bite force can vary depending on the source and methodology used to measure it. However, it’s clear that wolverines have a stronger bite force.
    - Wolverines possess a strike force of up to 1,200 lb.-ft./s. Honey badgers possess a strike force of up to 570 lb.-ft./s.
    - Wolverines also put out a strong musky anal scent like honey badgers do. They are known as skunk bears for that reason.
    - Wolverines take down prey as large as bison, elk, & moose. The record (that we know of) is a 1,800 lbs. adult male moose. Honey badgers take down prey as large as domestic sheep and goats.
    - Wolverines occasionally challenge and take food from mountain lions, bears, and wolves. Wolverines are not prey, They are competitors. They risk their lives when they attack these apex predators. When prey is plentiful, wolverines prefer to practice avoidance from mountain lions, bears, and wolves.
    - Honey badgers are prey to Lions, Leopards, Hyenas, Wild Hunting Dogs, Crocodiles, Large Constrictor Snakes, and - rarely - Jackal packs. Too slow to flee, honey badgers can successfully defend themselves from predators but only when there is easier prey with more reward / less risk elsewhere. If easier prey is not nearby then the honey badger becomes lunch.
    - Wolverines also have thick, loose skin. Although it is slightly thinner skin than a honey badger, wolverines also have very thick fur that acts as an additional armor combat bonus (thick fur is a greater bonus than skin). Basically, Wolverine skin + fur >> Honey Badger skin + fur.
    - Wolverine claws are more curved, like the claws of big cat predators - Made for grappling and tearing. Honey badger claws are more straight - better made for digging and burrowing.
    - Honey badgers have a better resistance to cobra venom, bee stings, etc. - which does not factor into a forced arena battle between a wolverine and a honey badger.
