@@Heartt321 if you removed every vehicle in wt that's literally just a specific tt vehicle but slightly better armor and turned those into modifications you'd get more of stuff like this
The M8 Buford came with 3 protection schemes: Level I (air-droppable configuration): the base hull, made of aluminum (for weight savings). Protection against all small-arms and resistant to 12.7mm and 14.5mm from the front. Level II (air-liftable configuration): additional applique titanium plates giving resistance to 23mm cannon fire frontally and 12.7mm/14.5mm from the sides. Level III (maximum protection): large applique composite blocks added along the sides and front, designed mostly to add protection against light HEAT-based threats such as RPGs or low-velocity cannons. Now, the version we have in game only has the first and last scheme, which I think is a bit of a shame considering the added protection of Level II might have given some better survivability (not *much*, but it's there) without too much of a penalty in weight (and since the applique plates wouldn't have covered up the point where the smoke grenade launchers are, should have allowed us to keep those).
I’ve always wanted the level 2 armor but the snail won’t deliver I want my smoke grenades but I also wanna be machine gun proof and I don’t mind being like a ton or maybe 2 tons heavier but 6 tons without smokes? Nah And maybe it has an engine upgrade? Idk
Tbh this kind of upgrade should go to 105mm Centauro too (you can install ROMOR or not) instead grinding exact same vehicle with little quirk which is the ERA in exchange of smokes
@@xxfalconarasxx5659 THey do it to fill up the tech tree. One example is the japanese tree with all the "Prototype", "First Production" and "Series" stuff. The differences between these is basically the same as with any "regular" vehicle through its modifications.
PLA's Type 15 light tank's design philosophy were built exactly like the XM8. The Type 15's development was inspired by the US experience in using M18 Hellcat and M8 Scott in WW2 as well as M41 Walker Bulldog and M551 Sheridan in Vietnam War. The Type 15 light tank's protection features were basically divided into 3 different levels: Level 1 has only RHA steel base armour for high altitude operation in the Himalayas vulnerable to RPG7 and 23mm Gsh autocannon which the Indian army has tons of those. Level 2 has additional composite plates add on for shrugging off RPG7 and occasionally 23mm cannon fire over the frontal arc. Level 3 has heavy ERA bricks with RHA liners that can only slightly reduce the penetration effects of the 125mm APFSDS rounds over the frontal arc, also the mobility of the tank will be heavily compromised, in response to India's attempt to import Sprut SD(has low pressure 125mm smoothbore gun capable of launching tandem charge AT missile and able to fire APFSDS at the mean time) The Type 15 was equipped with the same gun as the Centurion MK5 because the L7 rifled gun was known to have great long range accuracy for its APFSDS, more ammo capacity and the ability to shoot HESH(low cost anti structural round with limited AT capabilities).
@@FM-hw8yvSo are you going to make the same argument for smoke shells? 6 extra tons of weight on a light tank no less that isn't expected to survive hits in the first place that also removes a feature that can actively affect its survivability is not worth it.
@@icy3-1 I would argue about that Composite blocks have always been a pain for any he based weapon excluding tandem And with how bad volumetric in wt is Those can make apfsds disappear
The xm8 got the short end of the stick as it should've gotten its level 2 armor package and m900. But for some reason gaijin gave c76(later m774) and its level 1 and 3 armor. the level 1 armor was never even intended to be used in combat and it makes no sense why they wouldn't make the level 2 armor the base. It also stupid that its predecessor, the ccvl, gets a better round and higher br, which is pretty dumb. If the stryker and 2s25m can be 10.0 with 500mm penning rounds why can't the xm8?
i love how all the cool shit in the US tech tree is either locked behind a paywall or you have to grind for so long youll be 70 when you finally reach it
i wish we could change armor packages before spawning instead of it being in the hangar. It would make taking out armour that would be situational far more viable wrather than being a dice roll weather or not the armors worth the weight. Like in urban maps level3 might not be a bad idea
It's actually not. Gear ratios are the same. The Level 3 scheme is just the tank being an extra 6 metric tonnes heavier. Basic Newtonian physics should tell you that for a given force (the engine's output, which stays the same in both configurations), increasing mass (by adding the extra armor package) will necessarily decrease acceleration. The reverse gear comparison being fairly similar is due to them both hitting the hard maximum reverse speed cap (the engine rev governor) quickly (the top speed in reverse is -15kmph). As for forwards, the maximum speed forwards is going to take much much longer to achieve, which allows us to see the acceleration penalty of all that extra weight.
Against lighter (non-tandem) HEAT hits, the Level III bricks *should* provide some protection. Stuff like 73mm HEAT from BMP-1s, for instance... most HEAT-based threats at the BRs this thing is at though will be using tandem warheads or have absurdly high pen values (1100mm pen for an AGM-65 Maverick, anyone?), to which those applique bricks will mean mostly nothing.
The AAM3 pulls like 3% more than the 9M, and same with the range, there isn't much difference. I think Zenturion7 made a video about it, I don't remember if it was he
Bruh it doesn't that's pretty well known in the community actually. Like you could test that yourself even. Only thing carrying less ammo does is having less ammo inside your tank being at risk for detonation. Instead of the typical max ammo tiger 1, carry less and you won't implode like a T series tank.
…I don’t know why but I see the modular packages on the XM8 rather useless. In case of the hypothetical case that the ZTQ15 or the VT-5 makes into WT, things are way different
It’s always infuriating to be in a vehicle with just too little armour to stop 50 cals. And even worse when others have just enough protection against regular MG’s when playing a nation that doesn’t get access to 50 cals
For a tank who's entire purpose is to be light and nimble it really isn't worth it. I'd rather stick to "don't get seen, don't get shot" and if I do rely on smoke than blocks in a specific area of my armor.
The upgrade is useless on this vehicle because you're supposed to snipe at long range, flank or support teamates in little maps. Only the idiots who push in this tank are the worst players
Seems like a fair trade off! I wish they gave this option to more tech tree vehicles instead of just premiums and event vehicles
Wow 150 likes in a few hours :D Get on this hypetrain Gaijin!
Its the fact that the event vehicle in specific has this upgrade package while literally every TT vehicle doesnt
Very much agreed. It's a fun and interesting way to give more choice of Playstyle to the players. Wich we could see more of it
they do, and not all vehicles have this irl

Not really worth it but you do you bud
It adds negligible protection and makes your tank heavy af but go for it if you like it.
Whole point of the XM8 is to shoot and get out without being shot at, and the smoke is useful for that, this really is not worth it

Yeah, I don't get why War Thunder makes some armour packages entirely new vehicles that you have to research, instead of upgrade modules.

Thx for confirmation, I was like... Seems familliar
Really, The Composite Armor
It's Like "Is Fat People Bulletproof"
Still way better than the TOGgrade
Omg, the Hangar 1 theme catched me off guard. Man, I love the whole AC OST. Such bangers
Dude I felt the same trust me ;-)
Basically speed vs some survivability
Man the ace conbat music
Just for those who dont know, 6 tons is about 13000 lb
10/10 music choice. AC5 was and still is my favorite ace combat

Mom: We already have ERA protection at home
The ERA protection in question:
Trade off, if looks cool
Speed is its own sort of armor.
Do you mind testing that protection at actual range where any decent player will be using it rather than right next to it?
What about HEATFS protection?
Very well Zenturion7, u have convinced me
I will now purchase it
i want this tank so bad but not $100 bad
the level 3 armor package should be able to stop 30mm AP rounds frontally and the basic RPG-7 heat rounds

I don't really see a use for this, the loss of mobility is not worth a negligible change in protection.
