    I remember everyone freaking out in 2020 when the US lost their 1st game and i pointed out then, which no one seems to remember, they didn't have the full team. 3 of their players were still playing in the NBA finals. Their 2 best wing defenders, Jure Holliday & Khris Middleton and their 2nd best scoring option Devin Booker. I know those were not huge names but their absence mattered. As soon as they joined the team the US cruised through the rest of the game capturing the gold relatively easily.

    The two teams with a chance are Canada, which has a true star in SGA and is deep enough to have NBA starters on the bench, and France, which has no depth at all but the duo of Wemby and Gobert is definitely going to be a challenge to score on.
    The US probably takes it and goes undefeated. The thing that annoys FIBA is that the US cares a lot more about the Olympics than it does about the FIBA World Cup. The Olympics has the prestige and the aura of the Dream Team, while the World Cup is something that a lot of players skip to focus on rehabbing and training for the next season.

      @@JohnWick-qr4yc I think FIBA would prefer it to be more like soccer, where the World Cup is the prestigious competition and the Olympics are a U-23 tournament. You can't fake history, though, and America has more history with the Olympics.

      @mauruhkatigaming4807 20 วันที่ผ่านมา +3

      @marvelfan7720 SGA is one of a handful of international players who would be good enough to be in the US starting lineup. Their star power falls off steeply after him (and maybe Murray if he has a good night), but they are at least stocked with NBA-caliber players. Nowhere near the level of even the US bench, but there are no "Who He Play For?" entries, which is more than France can say.
      It'd take a lack of effort from the US and/or an insane night from SGA, but it wouldn't be impossible for them to steal a win in the knockout round.

      Another underrated advantage, that i don't see too many talking about, is the USA also has not one but TWO of the named 15 greatest coaches of all time in Steve Kerr as head coach and Eric Spoelstra as an assistant. Yes, Rudy and Wemby will make scoring in the paint hard but the US are fully capable of scoring from anywhere. They have no shortage of all time great shooters on the roster. I'm not an all time great coach and even i can come up with a line up of like KD at the 4 and which one of those guys is going to defend him on the permeameter? lol.

    Can be beaten easy.. the average age of the team is in mid 30s so just field a young team that likes to just run all out all game and push the pace and will have this team winded by the third quarter

    Embiid ain't playing. lol. He's too injured, even for this waltz. KAT should be on the team but I think he played for his mother's old country year's ago. Kawhi might not play either, although I think he wants to. It's the only thing left for his HOF career, similar to Curry. They might add Jarret Allen for Embiid and probably will add Paolo Banchero.

    Big names are great, but as always, it's all about how those names play together. Sometimes, it just doesn't work. USA Basketball can't just win through name power alone anymore, they have to play well the whole Olympics. International basketball has evolved so much. It would be a big upset if the US lost, but not like it was in 2004, not even close.
    The fact that international basketball has different rules to the NBA is really dumb. Americans, who created the sports, are disadvantaged when playing outside of there own country. Just weird.

    The American players arent as good in international basketball because they dont play defense or follow the rules of basketball (no travel, extremely soft fouls etc). Nba is more entertainment than actual basketball

    Alot of teams will include at least one collegiate athlete. Christian Latener a college player was on the original dream team over Isiah Thomas an all time player because Michael Jordan didn't like Thomas and didn't want him on the team.

    2004 was so embarrassing. I was only 14, but there had only been 2 summer Olympics between the Dream Team and that debacle.. it was rough. Our coach that year was a bonehead, the great players were either not there or far too young, it was just bad all around. We should never finish lower than 1st in the sport we invented.

    The narrator sounds like he was hired by the Olympic committee to get other countries interested in BB. We all know what's going to happen. This isn't Cricket. And lets not forget that a lot of those top foreign players train in the USA, under US coaches. And they're are only a few who could be considered NBA material, let alone NCAA worthy. I'd be willing to bet some of our top HS teams could beat some of those runabout Euro teams.
