Yes I tell people that this is not just a if your “poor” challenge. Its if there was an emergency and you had no access to disposable diapers, what would you do? I need to get a few of my things in a stay in bag something that I could grab and go but also if I got stuck inside I knew exactly where these things we’re. It also teaches you that if your out and about and run out of disposables you can use a receiving blanket that you may have stuffed in the bottom of your diaper bag to get you by for a bit till you get home or whatever. Even if your a disposable parent and don’t want to have cloth diaper covers around you can use a hand towel or flour sack towel or receiving blankets and a fleece blanket cut up to make a cover out of. It won’t be perfect but it’s better than nothing.

You could collect them in a bucket of water with a cup of white vinegar (for neutralizing ammonia smell), and then wash them at the end of the day with a lid with a hole in it to avoid splatter and a plunger. Maybe that would help with keeping on top with the laundry.

Vinegar eats at the elastics in the diapers and breaks them down sooner

A wet pail (bucket with water) used to be very popular, but it encourages bacteria growth.

I just ordered two sets of cloth diapers for my baby. She was born at 32 weeks gestation so I didn’t have a choice but to use disposable diapers until she came home from the Nicu and gained enough weight. I can’t wait to not use as many disposable diapers as I did with my first child. I will definitely hand wash the diapers. I don’t have a washer or dryer at home so this will save some money

Im a wash as they come off the butt lady lol I didnt buy many new born diapers so I used to wash as I went till he fitted into btp covers
Also we don't own a dryer and my way of softening is rubbing the material on itself. A bit rough on the hands but loosens up the fibers :)
