      Are the amps already loaded in the Tonex when you receive them out of the box new or do you have to buy them or get them like through here on Kyles channel ?
      I just plug into my amps front end with maybe 2-3 pedals in the effects loop so I am not sure about these.

    Being software they could have done some cool things like make a 5 band MK EQ available for a Rec and the ability to mix n match a bunch of things. Put a Rec pre into a Mark Simul Class Power section, choices between Pentode or a triode for the Class A choice. Basically let you create the Frankenstein Mesa of your dreams. That’s what would interest me in digital vs. the real deal.

    I think it is safe to say that most, if not all amp sims/models need help. Out of the box, regardless of model, sound bland, blanketed, and kind of "off". They seem to need work to get them sounding like what they are attempting to emulate. Kyle did a good job throwing his magic dust on these for sure, made them sound just fine. How they feel, that is another story, i cant say.

    The compression of the low end, especially on palm mutes isn't dissimilar to the Pod bean. Better, but it's still there.
    At this point I think it's because no one has modeled the amount of air that is moved with a low palm mute, much less the proximity effect of the mic.
    Yes, much of that gets mixed out. And yes, that is a pita to mix because it's the loudest signal. But in emus, it's never louder. In heavy music there are dynamics expressed in mutes.

    Great video, as always! But remember these are “only” captures, so like snapshots of someone else’s sound. I know, Doug West, but You can’t tweak them them the same way You would a “real amp”, those knobs don’t behave like a real tonestack. AmpliTube 5 already has tweakable Mark amps, quite good actually if used with external IRs (Rectifiers not so much).

    Great video. The Mark models are not ideally captured but adding a eq/boost before can help mimic the gain and treble/mid/bass controls while the tonex treble/mid/bass are after the gain model like the 5 band eq. The Mark amps on this pack suck big time. They have too little gain for high gain sounds. The IIC+ and IV can get really gainy with some settings. I said this on Ola's video but I think is because Doug West set these amps,and his settings are good for rock and clean, bit he doesn't know or like to set these amps for high gain in the vein of Metallica or DT.

    • @belligerentamateur
      @belligerentamateur  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      honestly I would totally agree with the gain portion on that, and that's why I had to work some magic in order to get them into high Gain territory in this video. but to be fair, I feel like I generally have to do a lot of tweaking to plugins to get them where I like them from pretty much any company but I also have a very particular sound

    • @djabthrash
      @djabthrash 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Have you tried simply raising the incoming signal level just before hitting the ampsim ?

    • @belligerentamateur
      @belligerentamateur  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@djabthrash if you mean the gain on the interface, I always aim for -12 peak input gain because that's where I feel most plugins sound and react closest to real amps. But there is an input level control on the plugin that allows you to raise the input sig ak, and I've done so as high as I can. without it clipping, and it's still just not even close to enough for most models. These models were mostly captured with very little gain, so it's difficult or nearly impossible to get them into high Gain territory without some serious trickery.

    • @djabthrash
      @djabthrash 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@belligerentamateur You can still add gain inside the plugin, just before the amp block, by adding an effect set transparently with just its output volume adjusted (ex : compressor with ratio at 1:0 but output gain raised).
      In the Two Notes Torpedo Torpedo Genome plugin, I'd insert a volume pedal block before my amp and add some gain with the volume pedal. I can also raise the output volume of any block element i insert before the amp block. Maybe you can do something similar in your guitar plugin suite (without having to adjust the plugin input level).

    • @belligerentamateur
      @belligerentamateur  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      I definitely agree that the mark amps were undergained for the metal crowd, can't necessarily say that I agree on your recto comment, though. easier for me to say as I've spent time playing with them, but this one does have something a little special going on in the lows and highs compared to other rectifier plugins I have that I compared directly. kind of one of those things where you really have to compare it to be able to tell though

    • @eds4754
      @eds4754 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@belligerentamateur Fair. I’ve made a ton of ToneX and NAM models with my Rev G and Multi Watt and when I compared side by side with these models, the ones I made were (naturally) dialled in more to my taste. Not a million miles apart but I didn’t feel like I was missing anything at all.
      Fractal, Helix and STL all make models that sound pretty dead on to my real Recto’s, but most emulations struggle a bit (usually when they don’t model the amp with a Recto cab load). I’d reach for those emulations over these captures for sure, not least because you have all the channels and modes.
      These were pretty well dialled in which isn’t always the easiest thing with Recto’s, so i’ll give them dues there.

      @@DerSilvano IMO the differences are a bit over exaggerated online. Main influence on the tone is the master volume, different versions use different tapers so eyeballing settings will lead to different tones. Same goes for the bass knob, some versions you have to set those controls very different.
      3 channel ones handle some stuff different to how the 2 channel does channel cloning stuff, those modes are hardest to match on the newer recto’s.
