I did not know I had a GoPro remote along with the Hero 3 until my brother showed it to me and said its been lying around unused for 3 years. Since I have never used it does the battery die off for good ? I tried charging it with a gopro wall charger and original cable, - the red light came up, the version came up on the screen, it showed battery full - i dont know how. Then it immediately went into wifi scanning mode. as soon as I saw the red light went off , i disconnected and tried switching it on the usual way. But nothing really happened. Could you please suggest. Thanks
Many thanks for your soloution, bought this Smart Remote this afternoon for £65 and couldn't get it to charge, i tried everything plugging in to a wall charger my computer, i was getting ready to throw the thing in the bin. Thankfully saw your solution and it worked right away. But Go Pro should be ashamed of themselves selling utter crap like this, I really should have stuck with my Smart Phone to remote control my camera, no more over priced GoPro crap accessories for me. Once again many thanks, but how many more people have had the same problem with this rubbish remote.
This works because you "force" more pressure on the connections. The problem is that the connections get a layer of crud over time so it doesn't always get a good connection. This is a good backup solution, but really all you need to do is clean the contacts with a pencil eraser on occasion. This concept is often used in computer repair for contacts like DIMMs.
Edit 2022: Ma Remote SUPTIG ( Amazon) acheté en 2019 a eut désormais ce même problème en mai 2022 j'ai failli la démonter et en cherchant comment je suis tombé sur cette vidéo, bien utile j'ai tenté et cela fonctionne parfaitement ma remote c'est enfin allumé à nouveau ( certe indiquant un batterie faible) mais c bon signe elle va donc se recharge ainsi désormais ^^ ! Great Tip! It addresses part of my problem. I broke the cable the other day and have taped it back together ( Red wire on the left ). But now the remote will not turn on while plugged into a power source. Any Idea?

But also to add - rule of thumb is, run your remote onto tap water after using it in sea water as the salt corrodes the metal contacts, after doing that, scrape the contacts a bit with a needle to get rid of the sea water formed in the contacts, plus this tin foil hack, et voila!
yes the foil is safe its just a simple conductor that bridges the gap where the pins are not strong enough to make a good contact. its all very low voltage. :)
I opened the Remote controller and I realized that the battery was swollen. Dunno why as I used 3 or 4 times the remote controller. This tip doesn't work on mine. I just replace the battery and done.
I've taken my Remote into the Salt Water for the past 3 Months but the last two times I didn't clean it with fresh water. Big mistake It didn't want to charge today: I Tried your method first and it didn't work unfortunately :-( Then I've tried washing it in water and it still didn't work. Last thing I did before scratching the connections was spraying WD40 on it, wiped it clean from any dirt or salt and that worked I didn't need to damage/scratching the connections. Thanks for your tips though I'm sure it worked for others.

hi. make sure that the remote is totally switched off before clipping the charger cable into the remote and the balls of foil are big enough to make a good contact also try pushing the remote and cable together really quickly. good luck.

you can always download the gopro app to your phone and use that as a remote. of course phones are not water proof but is another solution

Common problem was the cable breaking. I took my charger plug apart and hot glues the insides
