There will never be another time in history like those first few years of Pokemon's existence. Not just in the games. You woke up every morning to watch a new episode of Pokemon, then go to school and all you and your classmates talked about was Pokemon. You had the school merchandise. You showed off your Pokemon card collection and battle each other during lunch. It was a magical time and I'm grateful to have been there for it.

Hell yeah. The Pokémon phenomenon for the first like 3 was definitely the golden age. It literally makes me sad these kids between like 2003 and 2010 will never get to experience Pokemon the way we did. Being born in 92 was THE optimal year for me to latch on to Pokémon the way I did. Man I miss those days

So much to this game that makes it the goat. Not to mention that you could run your Yellow version at 3x speed when playing it thru the port and unlock a surfing Pikachu/Raichu 👀

I always talk to friends that the most magic moment in games history to me is when industry went from 2D based do 3D based games in 5th generation. Just like you said, growing up with 8-bit Pokémon, 16-bit Mario, etc and then suddenly everything is 3D, alive, explorable, in front of your eyes? That was a delicious punch into the brain!

I am a large advocate for this dream pitch -
    New Pokemon Stadium
    - Every Pokemon
    - Every gimmick
    - Every battle style - single, double, triple, inverse, battle royal, etc. (Even include contests!)
    - Tournaments can be run with limitations and restrictions, or none if wanted.
    - Central hub for competitive
    - Can build rental teams or use Pokemon you have in HOME
    - Made by Bandai Namco
    - Can have a story mode of beating a Battle Frontier style facility.
    - Has a Metronome Mode

As an adult now I am making it one of my goals to collect all the games and shows that I had as a kid including Pokémon stadium. I too love the narrator be announcing the play by play of the battle and how dramatic he makes it sound, like when I get a 1 hit ko on the opening move he says it a ko on the word go" or something like that and if you don't give a command he be asking what the matter trainer repeating itself til yu give a command. Because PBR failed.
And it's easy to see why PBR failed: It was straight up a Battle Frontier and if you didn't have a copy of a DS game (It worked with Platinum, HeartGold, and SoulSilver) there were very little Pokémon to work with - the choice between the mid-stage Kanto starters and a few select mid-stage Pokémon to round out the team, or mid-stage Sinnoh starters with other mid-stage Pokémon to round out the team.
No Mini-games to break the tension, Storage was a different application (My Pokemon Ranch, which had its own issues), and no single player adventure experience to make up for the loss of either.
The only saving grace PBR had over the main games at the time was the ability to battle online against random opponents, a feature that was added to the main series with Gen 5, and once Gen 6 and onwards utilized models over sprites, the need for a 3D Battle Sim ended.

I never played Stadium 1&2 until the past year when a friend showed it to me. They're both great games, and I think you'll find that Stadium 2 is fun to play as well! I personally like the Gen 2 minigames more.
This game made me bring out my old N64, buy Stadium 1&2 for myself. I also recently purchased Colosseum and Battle Revolution, although I'm not expecting either to be as good as its predecessors!

I want a New Stadium that's not just a console exclusive. I want it as an app that piggy-backs on Pokemon Home, under the assumption that we can battle with ALL the Pokemon available to us in our Home.

The transfer pack really created longevity for the game. You have your Pokémon journey, bring Pokémon you you collected into the game was just absolutely amazing. I see tastes of Stadium in Sword in Shield. It's very similar in tone that there is a competitive tournament going on within the world. I wish though the games would just simply capture this feel more. Create an open world like Archeus that just came out with this stadium vibe and that's the dream game.

Pokemon Stadium is still fantastic! I'm playing through it again on my channel. I was one of the few pointing out how much better the animations were than nowadays too lol
Great video btw, & you should've touched upon the lab where you can store, manage, & even receive Gift Pokemon from beating the Elite 4! The Pokemon games nowadays are a bit of a let down, but I do hope we get a new Stadium or successor to it in the future.

I think a new Pokémon Stadium for the Switch should be a digital only game, & Nintendo should allow the game to be 100GB+. That should be enough for high quality models & animation.

pokemon stadium was great, i wish they made another entry in that series for today. another thing Matty didn't mention was if you beat one of the cups, you actually won a special pokemon that could be transferred to your other games, i got a special psyduck, can't rememebr if it was always it, but i thought that was really cool, plus your pokemon you transferred kept their levels, whereas the borrowed ones were always level 50, imagine a stadium game made today that worked with the modern games...

I’m 17 and I remember back wen I was 5 years old that time I was searching threw my brothers wardrobes and found the N64 games and picked up Pokémon Stadium 2 I still remember that dam Image of Ho-Ho on the game and intro that cry has stuck with me as well as the image of hoho spreading its wings And I never got to have him as a Pokémon to play Stadium on but I still remember it till this day as well as Scizer and the sound of its Pincers and charizard in general with charmander and charmeleon I love these games and I would love to have a stadium 3 even if it looks like that it would be Amezing and bring me back to those times were I would play smash bros with my bother and ask myself how does he keep one shotting me with the Black baseball bat- Good times

I still have both Pokemon Stadium 1 (and 2) for Nintendo 64 and play them on a weekly basis!
Even after all these years and as an adult, I will say this game is extremely difficult to complete if you are relying heavily on the rented Pokemon only - especially Round 2! I have no idea how I was able to get so far as a child! LOL
This is Gen 1 we are talking about where there were no Items, Abilities, Dark/Steel/Fairy types and only limited to 151 Pokemon. I would love to see a remake of this game with all the features we see in Pokemon today.

One of the developers at game freak said in an interview that to make a new Pokémon Stadium the Stadium series would “have to innovate”. Basically it’s probably not going to happen because 3D battles (the draw of Stadium at its time of release) isn’t a draw today because of the games now exclusively being in 3D.

  • @youngbloodmoney27

I second that sentiment, Stadium was a gamechanger for me and my siblings. We started with the fat gray original Gameboy and I held onto it, as well as a see-through purple gbc up until a few years ago or so, Sold it to a game shop. (Not gamestop). Must have been just before they really started to appreciate in value because I remember getting jack diddly squat for it 😆 I included it with a bunch of other stuff that was just collecting dust in a box.
