This is a really interesting and thoughtful review. One idea is for you to expand this into the world of weapons: for instance, flechettes are high skill weapons, but they essentially bypass all armor. Packhound missiles with the right modifications can also serve this function. Thermal attacks that bake modules is another example. There are more. So the "rock paper scissors" part of your analysis could be expanded to consider changes to those items as well.

It's so amazing how much different one can see the original game design was pre-Odyssey.

    Its not a bad idea.
At this point we need to do something at least. For starter's maybe we should remove Heavy Duty engineering also increasing resistances by 14%. Heavy duty should increase hull boost only.

engineering as a whole shouldn't make your ship 2-3x more effective it should had considarable downsides and give you at most 50% boost on your ship capabillities. It should be a tool to specialize your ships further not make them godtier at everything.

I've always asked them to re-configure the slot system in this way, more for the lack of "intelligence" with slots being just too unrealistic. How does a slot where a cargo bay could fit become a reinforcement? Like what, and armon box instead of a bay? Dumb. Certain slots should have sub-slots and only some fully configurable slots with no restriction.

Honstley this would be a great idea to help balance and make the engineering more interesting while bring the hull tanks to be more usefull.
But sorry to be the downer here but its "Elite Dangoures" it clearly has the community it doesnt deserve and until this goes open sourse it will probley never change. "god i want to be wrong"
Great Video Dry heat looking forward to the next one..

This change would also make PvE piracy in smaller ships viable since you need a lot of optionals for the cargo racks, collectors interdictor etc leaving your ship without much space for armor modules.

PVP should always be the highest skill activity in this game. Plasma accelerators and railguns should always be the best weapons for anyone with enough skill to unlock their potential. The gap between these two weapon types and those which are easier to use is the only area where discussion about balance can be effective. To reiterate, they should always be the most capable weapons for top(or even mid) level PvP, but easier to use weapons should be decently effective options for those without the skill or desire to use PAs and RGs. They will be at a disadvantage, at least when it comes to weapon load out and pure dps. There can be no other way.

In my experience, PVP is extremely low skill. The vast majority of PVP is just ganking non-combat ships (not piracy or bounty hunting) Actual competitive PVP is much more rare. AX combat tends to be the real top end

@@OmegaPaladin144 I think you may be reading things that aren’t in my post. Again, PvP should always be the most high level combat in a game like this. Going up against another human being whose both fully equipped and fully intent on defeating you should absolutely be the toughest opponent(assuming they aren’t significantly less skilled than you). The video discusses the rebalancing of ship durability with a notable reference to the PvP meta. it seemed like he thought the current meta weapons didn’t deserve to be (so?)meta. I think they do deserve to be the best, but it’s possible the gap could be reduced, as rails and PAs don’t need to be so good that even novice players are better off with them.
Rebalancing AX or PvP combat so that the latter requires and rewards skill the most is a separate issue from that which is discussed in the video, if I recall correctly. If it helps you understand, the PvP I’m speaking of is dueling, sparring and the like, not ganking a solo trader who accidentally logged into open with a shieldless type 9 or something.

      you mean plasma accelerators right

    • @sterlingroberts6240

@@nachfullbarertrank5230 indubitably. There’s no such weapon in the game, so it would have to be a typo.

What about frag cannons and pacifiers? Aren't they even more effective? The whole idea of space shotgun is outright dumb, but if the easiest way to win is to equip 5 of those on a Python or Krait and just use brute force with zero finess is kinda bad too, isn't it?
