Finally, a video about the important carb components and comments relating to what they do. The OEM parts labels are woefully sparse on fine details or accurate descriptions. I was looking to install a fuel primer but there are two rubber caps on each carb and difficult to get to without removing the carbs which i didn't want to do in my MXZ 600. The caps briefly shown at 10:32 and 10:42 in this video gave me the confidence to install it in the proper place (the only place as it turns out!) Also, the synchronizing and mix adjustments were easy to do .. I was anticipating using my vacuum gauges but not required.. and should make my sled start and run better. Thank you Dino.
I actually think the 50-50 mix of simple green is the cause of the discoloring. If the solution becomes acidic the anodized aluminum discolors. I am using closer to 10% @ 150deg Fahrenheit(~65C) and run for 30 min. I also use a small container in the Ultra Sonic cleaner with engineered gas from the home supply store(Lowes). This removes any shellac from old gas. I am using a Hornady Lock and Load Hot Tub Sonic Cleaner with heat settings and timer. The Harbor Freight Ultra Sonic Cleaner works great also. This Ultra Sonic Cleaner works by creating micro bubbles that burst on the surface of the item your cleaning. This action is the cleaning process. The solvent or soap is for substances that are elastic and are not affected by the sound vibration.
wpeterb, what a great comment, thank you. I believe you are correct. I did some reading and simple green, green is shown to cause this kind of discoloration on aluminum and is no longer recommended for aircraft cleaning because of this. I have used the small container method for smaller parts and it works very well, however for larger pieces like carb bodies, I have started to use simple green HD purple, which works well, is non flammable and safe for aluminum. Great video! As always very informative. Need to order the JIS drivers for some work coming up on the DR. Really like the parts cleaner. Looking into purchasing one for a while now but haven't pulled the trigger yet..
Good video. Lots of small parts to keep track of! I have been to Toronto on a few occasions and people said the motorcycles stay in the shed from November till end of March. So are you going to show some video of your outings on the snowmobile?
Yes. Once I get it serviced and ready I'll cover some trips for sure. Then I'll switch over to the DR again for winter projects.Imnstill riding the DR now. Niagara is one of the milder regions of Canada and there are even opportunities to ride in January some years.
Lol I'm not a mechanic just a guy the like to mess around with stuff, but I do think if something is worth doing it's worth doing well. The k you for taking the time to comment. Dino
Nice video, this is quite the tear down. Don't the shops usually just pull the carbs, open the bowls, clean them out and clean/replace the jets, replace torn gaskets and put it all back together calling it good?
That's tricky work! I am impressed with how you keep track of everything. Sam and I enjoyed watching this!
This video gave me confidence to tackle this job. Thanks so much!
That's great, I'm glad the video helped out. 👍
Thank you for the feedback

Hello, can you tell me how many turns out you set the low mixture screw.
I can't remember exactly but I believe these were around 1.5 turns out from full stop
the carb is made of an alloy of zinc and aluminum
The nylon washers and c clip is missing on the top of the slide. Must have gotten sucked into the motor.
