  • Our chicks have grown quite a bit and we need to open up their brooder so they can have more space. I'm impressed with the deep litter method for raising baby chicks.
I also love having the kids help with the farm. I am a blessed dad and I'm thankful I'm not doing this adventure alone.
Thank you all for watching. I hope you enjoy this content. Please like, subscribe, and share. I'm just starting out and you liking the videos and sharing with your friends really helps me out.

I agree with you. Few things are as joyful as the sound of children laughing or excited.

Thanks for the video. Are you in a warm or cold climate? I’m in Pa., and it’s very cold right now. Too cold for garage. I’m going to try the deep litter. I have 12 chicks and it smells pretty bad. They’re only two weeks old and I clean it out every other day. I’m definitely going with your method.
So simple, your brooder!!! Would love to see your chicken coop!

Thanks for checking out the brooder. I'm in SW Missouri and when I had the brooder it was a bit chilly outside. I highly recommend the deep litter method. Remember the trick is to have at least 8 or more inches of wood chips. As for my chicken coop I'm using a stall in my barn currently. This video doesn't give an official tour but it shows the inside of the barn th-cam.com/video/CfzzSuaVNJI/w-d-xo.html

The bulbs are standard 250 watt bulbs.

The level of heat you need will depend on the ambient temperature where they are. So if it is warm where they are you may not need a heat lamp. If it is bell we freezing you may need something different then a heat lamp. If you get one and find it is too warm then move the light farther away from your chicks to make it cooler.

You didn’t tell us how you did the deep litter method!?? Maybe in another video. I will look 😊😊

Hey Sherry! Thanks for watching. Yes definitely check out our other videos. Basically the deep litter method is when you put lots of bedding material, such as wood chips, in the bottom of your animal pen or brooder. Then the deep litter or bedding will absorb the deposits of the animals and decompose them without smelling. It is simple and effective.
What kinds of animals do you have and are thinking of using the deep litter method with?

Please teach your children empathy for animals! Yanking the top open, screaming and whining, waving their arms, while the poor chickens scared for their life are flapping around and running on top of each other to get away but they cant! You and you children caused the animals great stress, while you could have had a teaching moment of respecting animals and just going about it in a calm manner. Picking them up and throwing them back like they are just a ball? Hard to watch this video.

Thanks for tuning into the video. I appreciate your comment and agree that kids should respect animals. We have given lessons on how to properly handle chickens and all the farm animals.
One other benefit that I haven't shared about the deep litter method is it provides a great cushion for the chickens so if they do fall then they are protected as well.
Thanks again for tuning in and keep looking for freedom in your life!
