      oooh, now that I can relate to! I do love reading classics but I buy them way faster than I read them! (I blame them for being so pretty)

      Definitely recommend trying some classics if you're interested! The great thing about classics is that although they all count as 'classics' it's such a general term that you can find ones that fit into your usual reading tastes! So if you usually enjoy fantasy, romance or mystery, start with classics from those genres!

    This is such an amazing TBR!!! There are quite a few that are on my TBR as well, so I hope we both end up loving them!! The two that I have read are Little Women and Far From The Madding Crowd!!! I ADORE little women and I can't stop thinking about the new adaptation, which was very true to the original story while being a bit more progressive!! If you love the film, then you're going to fall in love all over again when you read the book!! Far From The Madding Crowd was also a wonderful read and my only Hardy novel!! I have Tess of the Durbervilles on my 2020 TBR and can't wait to pick it up!! Good luck with your classics reading!!! :)

      Thank you so much Carolyn! I'm so excited to read all of these books and hopefully we can organise some buddy reads of the ones that are on both of our tbrs! Especially looking forward to Little Women which I think will be my first read of February! Hope you enjoy reading all of the amazing classics on your tbr too!

    Great TBR!! I'm a George Elliot fan. Romola is next on my list for 2020. I also think I need to reread Scarlet Letter. I read it over 10 yrs ago & didn't quite like it but I wasn't reading much then or differently as I am now. 😁 Currently reading Rachel Ray by Anthony Trollope who I discovered in 2019 & really enjoy & reading my first book by Mary Elizabeth Braddon, " Lady Audley's Secret". Lucy from LucyTheReader seemed to really enjoy it as well as Kate Howe. HAPPY reading!!

    Oooh I'm trying to take part in Lucy's Classics Community too! Your edition of Sense and Sensibility is so beautiful :o I've never heard anyone say anything negative about Crime and Punishment, maybe I'll pick it up this year too :D I really enjoyed the adaptation of Little Women too!! I tried v hard not to cry near the end :') I read about half of Far From the Madding Crowd and thought it was so great (especially the characters, I found it v funny!) but for some reason I didn't finish it last year! Still haven't read any Daphne de Maurier but since you give such high praise I must pick something up by them this year!! I'm looking forward to hearing what you think of these, and GOD all of these covers are stunning!!

      Yay - would be great to try and do some buddy reads if we have any classics on both of our tbrs! I TOTALLY cried watching Little Women but it was so amazing! I seriously cannot recommend Daphne Du Maurier's work highly enough - recommend starting with either Jamaica Inn or Rebecca but, really, all of her stuff is amazing!

    This months pretty much all done and I only got through two books! lol but good luck on you’re goals. I have school so I use that as my excuse. But sometimes I’m on my phone watching vids when I could crack open a book. The struggle is real.

    Great video. The Scarlet Letter isn't so much that she had the child out of wedlock, it was that she had an adulteress affair with (the mystery man) and so it was double scandal. Hester was married, the mystery man was not. I'm interested to hear your review on all of these books.

    Hello, I've been watching a bunch of classic-book-related videos lately and I clicked on your video here! I also have a problem with having multiple editions of different classics, especially favorite books. I haven't read all of Jane Austen's books, but Sense & Sensibility was the first and one of my favorites. Just behind Mansfield Park, if I were to rank the one's I've read. And then I highly recommend the 1995 film adaptation once you've read it. It's SO good!! Anna Karenina is also a favorite book of mine and I really want that Vintage Russian Classics edition! Those are so gorgeous!! I've actually been in the mood to re-read Anna Karenina, but I'm hesitant to start reading it again because there are so many books I haven't read yet that I want to read and it's so big, I'm not sure if it's the right time to start it. Personally I didn't enjoy reading Far From The Madding Crowd. I'm not sure if Thomas Hardy's writing is for me, but I do want to give another work of his a chance. Specifically, I also own Tess of the D'Urbervilles, but haven't read it yet. However, I LOVE the Far From The Madding Crowd adaptation with Carey Mulligan! It's a beautiful film and accurate adaptation in my opinion! It's so well-done and one of my favorite films! Carey Mulligan is also one of my favorite actresses :)
    You have a great list here! I hope you enjoy them and accomplish reading all of them or at least most of them this year!

    Sounds like a great collection. I'd love to get started on some Russian classics but they really intimidate me. :D

    • @ciarascorner
      @ciarascorner  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Thanks Cam - they can seem intimidating but ones like Anna Karenina, for example, are split into so many parts that you can look at it like a series rather than one big book and then it's not quite as intimidating!

    I have Middlemarch in english in my bookshelf for three or four years now and never read it... English is not my first language, do you think it is difficult for a non-native? I can read contemporary and young adult books without any problem, but a few years ago I tried to read Northanger Abbey and had to stop because it was difficult for me...
