Available in China, all the way to Singapore, Indonesia, Japan, Hong Kong, Australia etc. Most expensive cultivar is in Thailand. The best and most expensive fruits are reserved for the royalty. Follows by about sgd 20 to 32 per kg in Singapore. The per kg weight includes the whole fruits with a yield of 15 to 30% of the total weight, are the yellow flesh and brown seed. So it's very very expensive if you buy the fresh durians as you only get to eat about 5% (yellow flesh of the fruit) of the total weight.

Bravo for trying. The smell is the primary obstacle - odour to those who hate it, aroma to those who do. The texture is soft almost custard-like. Next thing to know, is there many different genus/varieties, and they taste different - ranging from bitter-sweet to sweet with some a tinge of coconuty or alcohol flavour. If you’re still in town, PM me, I’ll be happy to offer some explanation and join you for another tasting session. But again, bravo for trying.
Thank you, Crosby! We've been told we need to try Musang King next. Yes, it would be great to have someone with us to explain the different varieties during a tasting. Thank you for the offer! We'll let you know next time we're in town!
Start by asking for a sweet one then ease your way to the bitter sweet one when you get used to it. It’s like drinking sweet coffee and coffee without sugar.
I love durian and it is truly the king of fruits, but it wasn't like that for me at first. I grew up in America and durian was repulsive to me even at a distance! Then I came home to Vietnam and my Mom told me "Do Not smell it...just hold your nose and swallow a big bite" and so I did. A few months later I tried it again and it tasted good, and I love it after that and eat it every chance I had regardless how expensive for it worths the money!!!
if you try mao shan wang you would have a great first try experience. Seasonal breed. You can get them between May to August. Theyre more on the pricey side. Anywhere between $15-$28 a box. Theyre creamy, sweet and very fragrant. Cheaper durians do have that bitter, oniony, sharper taste to it which is available all year round. I just got my hands on 3 boxes of mao shan wang myself.
@@deeplizardvlog Yes you have to. The shop you went sells MSW durians at reasonable price. Even for seasoned durian eaters, after trying MSW, the normal ones just taste ordinary.
Kudos for trying out the durian!! most western tourists hate its smell as it's pungent, so awesome that u tried it haha. Thanks for visiting my country. great content and editing too. Do come back again & stay safe. Cheers.
if youre trying durian for the first time then you should try the durian kampung, its the basic of all durian, the cheapest, n its call durian kampung in english village durian. its got a random taste to it, sometimes its very good, sometimes very bad, sometimes its sweet, sometimes its bitter n sometimes its bitt n sweet! cheap doesnt mean its taste cheap 👍 there r people saying it taste like milk, vannila n ice cream you know?! 😂 u definitely should try durian kampung
Great Video. I am from the UK and first tried Durian when I was travelling in Thailand a few years back. Yes the smell was not good and its best to eat it outside!...In fact most hotels will have a NO DURIAN sign inside the hotel due to the smell. But the taste was wonderful and creamy. It has become one of my favourite fruits in SE Asia. Everyone should try it at least once....I am sure that beside the smell most people will like it's taste.
No offence to Thai, to Malaysian and Singaporean, Thai Durians are considered not the 'real thing'. The taste and odour is considered totally boring and not worth the while, too bland to the point of unpalatable. We are also put off by the firm and fibrous texture, which Thais like. There are no demand and market for Thai Durian in Malaysia and Singapore. If one has tried Thai Durian, he must try Malaysian Durian. It will change the perception totally. One will either turn and love it or hate it intensely.
To be honest..singapore is not for fruit taste visiting there is no origin fruit from there..all imported from malaysia.indonesia.thailand and few other country..visit malaysia for best experience about tropical fruit..ecspecially for durian lover.
Actually the best Malaysian durians go to Singapore because they get a far better price there. There are indeed durian trees in Singapore, but they are not produced in commercial quantities. Nor is it viable to farm them in Singapore due to the high labour and land costs.
Aside from durian, some new tropical fruits we've tried are jack fruit, rambutan, and dragon fruit. They've all been delicious! We expected dragon fruit to have more flavor, but it was still good. We still have to try mangosteen!
It awesome very good durians is beautiful fruits fresh healthy foods thank you for sharing your beautiful healthy foods enjoy your beautiful fruits when you enjoy your holiday in. Singapore shares of your hairy face you look much better thank you for sharing your beautiful story thanks

the best to me is a somewhat bitter sweet durian, something like beer. The Malaysian durians I think the MaoShanWang(猫山王)breed best fit what a good durian really tastes like.
I'm Singaporean & I sometimes like durian & I sometimes dislike it. Why? Because durians are like wine. Just as there are different types of white wines and red wines, there are different types of durians that have different taste profiles. So while some people may like a sweeter durian, some might like a more bitter durian. Just like how some people prefer a sweeter wine or something more dry. It'll be easier to understand and appreciate durians, if you think of it like appreciating wines. Different types of durians have different textures and moisture levels, so some durians might have more watery flesh, while others have meatier firmer flesh, and others are in-between. Some durians have big seeds, while others have more flesh and tiny seeds. That's why it's hard to pin down the durian tasting experience exactly. It would be like asking a person who's tasting wine for the first time and doesn't know anything about it what he thinks of it. It makes a difference if he's tasting a merlot or a pinot noir, a chardonnay or a riesling. So to be a durian connoisseur, you'd probably have to try as many different types of durian as possible, then maybe you'll find something that you prefer.
Thank you for the insight, Jeanette! Comparing durian to wine is a good analogy and helps put all the different tastes and opinions in perspective. We’d like to try more varieties so we can understand the differences!
have u seen buah pakan n buah isu...its fruit with the thorn like durian but not durian..to me its better than durian..very rare fruit..its ancient fruit,..im from sarawak, here when fruit season,.the best season in this island like fruit festival..but todays its kind of expensive when they sale it..
@@antusebayan271 I've been to Sarawak during my school days. Visited Kuching & Miri National Park to see the river & jungle & caves & stay in a longhouse. But I don't think I have ever seen or heard about buah pakan or buah isu before. Maybe because it's very rare, like you said. How can I get to try buah pakan and buah isu?
@@psoon04286 Thanks Philip ☺ I just wanted to make it easier for anyone who has never tried durian to understand the experience. Also, if they don't like it the 1st time, they might like it the next time, if they try a different type of durian.
Personally i would recommend you to search online for most reliable durian store if you really want to try what a 'good' durian taste like. A good durian usually should be consume within 24hr after it drop from the tree. The taste change very quickly if the durian have been left on store for prolong hours.
I hated Durian when I was a kid. It tasted disgusting and smelt like socks after you walk a mile in 40°C heat. But as I grew older, the fruits is irresistible and I can say this fruit is an acquired taste. Now I eat durians every week when in season.
Durians as with red wine is very personal when it comes to taste. Some like it sweet, some bitter. So to me it doesn't really matter if you paid $20 or $5 for it. I've had the ones that cost $20 but it didn't taste half as good as the cheaper $2 ones, just as "expensive" french red wines may not taste as good as the cheaper new world wines......
I tried eating durian while in Singapore. Its banned in many places due to the strong smell. It smells like sweaty arm pits with the odor smelling like it was using steroids for performance enhancement. I am saying the odor is super strong. I suggest to eat in pieces you can put into your mouth without touching around your lips. I tried many soaps and hand sanitizer on my face but I could not wash away the smell thank god it was gone when I woke up the next day. When you first taste durian it smells bad but it is soft . It reminded me of pudding and I was not sure what to think of it but after the first bite it tastes good but still that smell is a hard trade off. In Malaysia and Singapore Durian is hugely popular. In Singapore, They make many durian flavored desserts, breads, ice creams etc its everywhere ....where its not banned. :) I only ate a little bit due to the shock of it and its quite expensive in Singapore. I would eat again or give it another try, some people love it but for me I don't like the smell so much even when its made into desserts.
Durian is the only food that gives me chills. The good variety is that good. There is no accurate description for the taste. It's very complex. But there is a dominant sweetness to the taste. Durian is very nutritious too. It is an acquired taste i guess, similarly to blue cheese & caviar.
Yup you get the fresh ones.. Not those frozen export out ones..enjoy.. But eat to your body heat limit, you do know u still in Singapore and its still humid right..and never mix durian with beer or alcohol..
Please note that there are many different types and each has its own taste and textures.. there are cheaper ones and expensive ones.. Even those from Thailand is different from Malaysian ones in the taste and texture.
It's amazing how one's man food is another's poison :P Can't forget the funny facial expression of my norwegian colleague when he's trying out durian in Singapore for the first time. lol
Now is durian season in Malaysia. There are varieties of good quality durians in Malaysia such as Musang King, Black Thorn, D24, IOI, Red Prawn, XO & many more. I love eating durian despite the strong ''pungent'' smell that some people hate it. And I also enjoy sharing this with friends and family. The good durians like Mao Shan Wang can be really expensive. For durian lover like me, I prefer fresh by eating the fruits from the husk. After eating, you can actually drink some water added with salt to cool off , best is to drink that from the durian husk. There is a scientific explanation.
Good job guys!!👏😄 One of The best experience haa.👏😄That’s why we call THE KING OF FRUIT.👏😄 All flavor fruit mix on ONE item,”DURIAN” the most popular fruit on earth.👏🤣 well done.i hope you guys enjoyed.👏😄🇲🇾
I have seen the durian cakes... so pretty! I like the Musang King - that is the only Durian I can eat but unfortunately it is also the most expensive :(
Durian really isnt for everyone. I personally love it. I understand ppl can dislike it. So its fine if you guys don't like it and say it. If u tried durians in Asia and didnt lik it, u probably wouldn't like durian. If u try durian in non native country, usually its not as good becos it doesnt transfer well over long distance. So at least give it a shot when u r in a native country. Would be a great experience either way.
Because it's a fruit, it's recommended to try it fresh once it drops from the tree when it's most ripe. Singapore does not grow durian, so they import from Malaysia, thus less fresh. I like mine chilled, sweet and slightly bitter.
@@deeplizardvlog True, many durian-based desserts; ice-cream, crepes, mochi, lempuk, dodol. I had my marathon of legendary 'cendul durian' last week. Go ahead and try a drive-thru version in Selangor, Malaysia called 'cendul durian Bakar' ✌️
I think the reason why you don't reacted much on the taste because you are used to the smell and it kinda prepared you for the taste. Hope you had fell in love with it. Bitter-sweet taste is the best.
Durians are like steak. For steak, there's different types of doneness: tartare (raw), medium-rare, medium, medium-well, well. Same goes for durians: different type of ripeness. If it's too ripe, it's very watery. If it's just ripe to perfection, its texture is like a cheesecake or custard. Also, there's different flavors of durian. Sweet, bitter, bittersweet (combo of both), not-sweet(some Thai durians come to mind). Beef comes with different kinds of bones, like Tomahawk, ribeye, etc. Durians come with different seed sizes. Some seeds are so small, it's barely the size of the tip of your thumb (so lots of durian flesh). Some seeds are so big, it's bigger than an egg (little durian flesh). If one steak from a particular restaurant doesn't taste good, does that apply to all steaks everywhere? Same with durians.
Good analogy! Definitely agree. We tried durian again in Malaysia recently and will have a review of it out soon! This time, we went with Musang King and could tell a major difference from what we tried here.
@@deeplizardvlog Oh yeah, durians have (a kind of) warranty too. If you pick a durian (that's uncut, not those in a box), the vendor will open it up to allow you to inspect. You can poke a finger into the durian to test the texture and even pull a piece of durian flesh to try. If it doesn't taste good, you can reject it, and get the vendor to pick another.

Watch out for the calories. Not for people with diabetes 🤣 moderation is the key. As durian is a 'heaty' fruit (oh yeah~~~ eat it without drinking loads of water, I will get sore throat the next day), we use mangosteen (cooling fruit) or drink water with salt to combat it.

Some people over react to this fruit 😂
people tend to relate durian to something they had before
all exotic fruits have their own distinct taste, enjoy it as is
By the way,the season just started,it might not be the best right now.
Wait till some where in end may or early June, the quality will be better.
Good to know, thanks!
Durian is the tastiest fruit ever! I can eat them all day
if you try mao shan wang you would have a great first try experience.
Ah, we've heard so many good things about mao shan wang! We'll have to try it now that it's in season :)
@@deeplizardvlog Yes you have to. The shop you went sells MSW durians at reasonable price. Even for seasoned durian eaters, after trying MSW, the normal ones just taste ordinary.
Chuckled at these guys reaction after their 1st bite of the Durian fruit. Kudos to them for trying out this King Of Fruits..
He like it very good healthy foods come on you know you love them very healthy fruits thank you for sharing enjoy your holiday
I'm Singaporean. I don't like durian 😂 my family likes it and would buy them when they're in season, and I'd be in my room with my door closed. 🙃
love the camera work, how did you get these angles. must be full on editing. anyways welcome to Singapore, come back any time
Great Video.
Haha yes, we've seen several NO DURIAN signs around in taxis, shopping centers, etc. We're glad we tried it!
There are many different varieties and tastes so all depend on individual preference. Once you taste the best one, you will love it.
To be honest..singapore is not for fruit taste visiting there is no origin fruit from there..all imported from malaysia.indonesia.thailand and few other country..visit malaysia for best experience about tropical fruit..ecspecially for durian lover.
We'll have to try durian in Malaysia too! We've heard they're the best :)
Mangoostene was a great tasty fruit too..😁have a nice day..
@@mranggur9486 Agreed. Mangoostene is sweet and juicy(well, some are a bit sour).
My wife and I stayed at that same airbnb. Loved Singapore
Cool you guys staid in the same place!
How have you got such few subs? Great content and sick edits!
Thanks, Black Douglas! Just getting started 😁
You were good and brave not all foreigner dare to taste it ,anyway this durian is fruit not poison .lol
It awesome very good durians is beautiful fruits fresh healthy foods thank you for sharing your beautiful healthy foods enjoy your beautiful fruits when you enjoy your holiday in. Singapore shares of your hairy face you look much better thank you for sharing your beautiful story thanks
This fresh healthy durians is very good healthy foods you lucky to eat them enjoy your holiday in. Singapore I’m Singaporean living in. Spain don,t get it sad thank you for sharing your beautiful video love your video thanks
the best to me is a somewhat bitter sweet durian, something like beer. The Malaysian durians I think the MaoShanWang(猫山王)breed best fit what a good durian really tastes like.
Sean Lee yeah musangking 😆✌🏻 now still got 黑金 and 黑刺, both also good as well
I'm Singaporean & I sometimes like durian & I sometimes dislike it.
Good balanced comment. My thoughts exactly, but I wouldn’t have been able to put it so eloquently😊
In Phuket, Thailand, they had Durian ice cream & Durian Liquer at Malin plaza night market..
Ah, we just tried durian ice cream in Malaysia!
th-cam.com/video/cL469xUVocY/w-d-xo.html
I hated Durian when I was a kid. It tasted disgusting and smelt like socks after you walk a mile in 40°C heat.
But as I grew older, the fruits is irresistible and I can say this fruit is an acquired taste.
Now I eat durians every week when in season.
You guys doing very good for the first time
You both were sporting to at least taste it to the fullest. Salute you. I love it to the moon.
That's a great analogy! 🍷
So u have actually over paid the higher grade durian.
Yes some cheap red wine that gives you a splitting headache and terrible hangover.
My first startup would be selling during in USA. The company is called GrabDurian.
Try it frozen, it tastes soooo much different and better.
Welcome to Singapore, you guys had the cheap one, next time if you come here again, try the more expensive one.
Yup you get the fresh ones.. Not those frozen export out ones..enjoy.. But eat to your body heat limit, you do know u still in Singapore and its still humid right..and never mix durian with beer or alcohol..
You guys are brave!
I'm local and I love durians!
But not so much for my foreign friends.
At least you guys tried👍
Yes! We definitely wanted to see what the hype was about. Glad we tried it!
Yes it’s an acquired taste but I think more towards the smell. U can actually boil the seeds, then break it open and eat the stuff inside.
Please note that there are many different types and each has its own taste and textures.. there are cheaper ones and expensive ones.. Even those from Thailand is different from Malaysian ones in the taste and texture.
It's amazing how one's man food is another's poison :P Can't forget the funny facial expression of my norwegian colleague when he's trying out durian in Singapore for the first time. lol
Since there are many variety durians with different taste, I highly recommended u to try Musang King durian
Thanks, Marvin! We're planning on it :D
The durians in Singapore all come from Malaysia, and are brought in daily during the seasons, usually between June and November.
Now is durian season in Malaysia. There are varieties of good quality durians in Malaysia such as Musang King, Black Thorn, D24, IOI, Red Prawn, XO & many more. You can also follow the trip to the best durian farms in Malaysia organise by Lindsay Gasik, an American expert in durian. You can follow her instagram @durianwriter
Thanks, Cik! We've heard that Malaysia durians are the best :) We'll have to give some of the more premium variations a try!
You should try Mao Shan Wang (MSW), it’s the best type of durian! 😄
You should come to Penang to try Durian. You can have fresh branded Durian.
Thanks, Zai! We had fun 🤣
Well done ! You finished it.. You will get addicted to it..
The more strong smell of the durian.. the more good & tasteful it is..
I love durian. They make cake out of durian. There are about 4 kinds if durian. I love the one that is light in colour.
I have seen the durian cakes... so pretty! I like the Musang King - that is the only Durian I can eat but unfortunately it is also the most expensive :(
Its a nice fruits right.? Come to Penang, the best durian ever.. and its has many tourist spot too.
I'm from Malaysia . Durian fruit is delicious but expensive . Golden royale yellow in colour . Taste like heaven .
Smells like durian .
I would eat more durian if only i could carry them into public transport
Durian really isnt for everyone. I personally love it. I understand ppl can dislike it. So its fine if you guys don't like it and say it. If u tried durians in Asia and didnt lik it, u probably wouldn't like durian. If u try durian in non native country, usually its not as good becos it doesnt transfer well over long distance. So at least give it a shot when u r in a native country. Would be a great experience either way.
Hye guys, since you already in Malaysia. You must try Malaysia durian. There are variety types of durian.
Yes, we'll have to!
And the most important is the price more cheaper. Except for durian musang king. 😂
What kind of camera are u using its really nice
Because it's a fruit, it's recommended to try it fresh once it drops from the tree when it's most ripe. Singapore does not grow durian, so they import from Malaysia, thus less fresh. I like mine chilled, sweet and slightly bitter.
We'll have to try again in Malaysia! We've heard many others state that they liked them chilled too, or even with ice cream.
Try eating musang king at malaysia. Its 100% raw..super wicked delicious
Thanks, Lennard! Definitely trying Musang King in Malayisa :)
Nice video guys!
Nice southern drawl. Welcome to Sg.
Haha thank you!
Is there got Durian farm at Singapore???.... Which area?...bit confused hahahahaha...but anyway u guys awesome...
Haha we've heard most durians in Singapore are imported from Malaysia. This was the first time we had ever been around durian in person. They were so abundant in Geylang, so we had to try!
@@deeplizardvlog I advised both of u go direct to any Durian farm in Malaysia....if u want to eat it....bcoz the price is much more cheaper than Durian selling at shop/stall....at Malacca u can go to Durian Tunggal town Uncle LEE Durian farm....Pahang,u can go to Sg. Ruan Raub....da best n finest Durian ever u can get there.....anyway big fat thanks coz reply my message.... Chill Ya'
Durian grows in the wild at some parts of singapore. Freshly dropped durian straight from the tree is warm and has a very unique taste.
Both of your didn't puke! Well done! Now you can try the bitter breeds like D13, D24 and Golden Phoenix, that are less creamy and sweet =)
Yes, we'd still like to try the premium varieties to gain more perspective!
That's so interesting! Since we only had a small amount, we didn't experience any of the heating effects 😅
Brave and Sporty. Excellent!
whether you like it or not, its good to try anything first before passing judgment :)
eat good durian in durian season, you will love it after few times
I prefer bitter n sweet. Some numbs the tongue for that few seconds the moment you put it into the mouth. Wow....
Come to Sungai Buloh MYR40 u can get 4 to 5 small musang king.
Sounds like a great value.
Need to taste that soon!
Wow nice shot! Durian is getting more and more expensive now as more and more people like it! feel like eating Gold 😆 to those who love it, you will die craving for it like me! Nonetheless I agree it is the smelliest food in the world 😆😆😆
Glutton Bud TV 饞嘴新頻道 yes it is almost as expensive as gold😜😂
intheworldofmari 😆 eatable gold! Found your channel and subscribed 😊👍🏻 keep posting
Glutton Bud TV 饞嘴新頻道 oh thank you for the support 😊
😂😂😂yes edible gold!
FYI to anyone reading this, Red Prawn, which is the type they choose to try in the video is exactly the right one for people trying it the first time. It has the sweetest profile while maintaining a fruity taste & minimal bitterness or any exotic flavour.
