- It was the fall of 1972. Nixon had just been re-elected for another term, Vietnam was finally beginning to wind down after tearing our nation apart for over a decade, Hijacking commercial airlines seemed almost in vouge, The Godfather and Deliverance were the top movies, TV Shows like All In The Family, Sanford & Son and Hawaii Five 0 were the most watched and the midst all of this chaos, Bill Chase was out on a tour promoting an updated version of his band CHASE, focusing now more on Jazz/Rock Fusion instrumental sounds. From Andover High Ma auditorium-the rare fall '72 band burns through Open Up Wide, Bochawa and Cronus. Enjoy
The band here includes:
Bill Chase-Lead & Solo Trumpet
Rick Gardner-Trumpet
Alan Ware-Trumpet
Jerry Van Blair-Trumpet/Flugelhorn
Davy Ferguson-Guitar & Vocals
Jerry Manfredi-Bass
Wally Yohn-Keys
Joe Correro-Drums

Great to hear new takes from this band anytime. They were an amazing concept, never to be duplicated. Thanks for posting, JJ...

Brilliant!
Thank you for posting!
anyone have a recording of Bill Chase playing a solo of "Shenandoah" live? I saw him in '72 or '73 and the entire arena was dead silent when he played that song -- amazing
what? NEVER heard of that...where was this??? Was Bill a guest soloist? Never did that tune w the group that I know about...
yes, Susan, please let us know where you heard Bill play this solo - was it with CHASE, or with some other ensemble?
@@chasefreak maybe you can ask one of the group members in 72 or 73 if Bill ever did this - maybe they'd have a recollection of the situation...
Maybe, but perhaps it was a big band arrangement Bill did as a guest soloist? I think the song in question is some old folk tune which wasn’t part of the normal show tunes as I have several bootlegs from that time…once again, the mystery grows
Didn't like the keyboard part on "Open Up Wide." Sounded too much like a trumpet and kind of interfered with the horn parts.
Yea, Wally Yohn...acquired taste for many...however, in the fall of 1972, having a synthesizer on your band made you state of the art
@@chasefreak Wally was a great keyboard artist. Period.
i think that keyboard part is so original it sounds like it came from outer space- love it
😵 trumpet 🎺 intro too much for my ears 👂 Bill chase had some much chops
