Feeling stumped when a Jehovah's Witness comes to your door? Here are 3 questions you can ask.
    ------------------
    1. Did Jesus return invisibly and appoint his faithful slave?
    - They will say yes, but respond Matthew 24:26 says not to trust people that say that.
    2. Are you a child of God.
    - They will say no. Ask what child are they, since the Bible only gives two categories of children, good and bad. Galatians 4 shows how there is only 1 class of Christian.
    3. Can I read the Bible on my own, and come to an accurate truth?
    - They are forced to say no, use 2 Timothy 3:16, or 1 John 2:27, which says all we need is scripture, and it's the Holy Spirit's job to teach us, not men.

When Mormons knocked on my church friend's door, an interesting encounter unfolded. He greeted them by saying, "I have been expecting you. I read about you in the Bible, which warns about false prophets." This unexpected response seemed to catch the two Mormon ladies off guard. Despite their initial surprise, they left him a pamphlet and departed promptly.

Also when talking to them keep in mind that apologetics isn’t so much about convincing people of the faith as much as it is about *defending* the faith. Ultimately it’s the Holy Spirit’s job to convict them because He’s much better at that than we are.
We as humans have infinitely less knowledge & patience than the Holy Spirit. So when we fail to convince someone because we forgot something or couldn’t keep our patience we get angry and think we failed apologetics when in reality we just missed the point of apologetics: to “give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you…”

I had a couple of JW men come to my house on several occasions decades ago trying to convince me, but they always left confused and upset.
The came one day with a converted Christian woman (CCW). I guess they thought they would be able to use her to convince me.
The conversation went something like this; CCW as she offered me a Watchtower mag while the JWs stood smugly behind her: I was a Christian until I started attending their home studies.
Me: May I have one of your bibles?
CCW: No, that it would be too expensive if we gave one to everyone that asked.
Me do you read the Bible?
CCW: We didn't have the understanding to read the Bible on our own. That's why the Watchtower literature helps us to understand the Bible.
Me: would you accept Christian literature to help you understand the Scriptures better after claiming James 1:5.
CCW: I cannot accept anything written by Man, only the Bible contains the Truth.
Me: If this is true, why do you accept the Watchtower and other JW literature?
CCW: Well, because they said it would help me understand the Bible better.
Me: Who wrote the Watchtower and the other JW literature? Isn't it men that wrote it?
CCW began to look confused while the JWs began to panick: Well, yes, but...
Me: Didn't they tell you you weren't to accept anything written by Man?
CCW more confused: But, but they told me...
    JWs alarmed
Me: Asked them why is it that they told you not to accept any literature written by Man, yet they told you to read their literature?
CCW now confused looking back towards them and back to me: But, but, I was...told, but.
Me looking at the JWs: Can you explain why JWs are not to accept nor read any literature written by Man while telling them they have to read the Watchtower and other JW literature that was written by men from your Faith?
CCW looking dazed and confused making hand gestures of "what's going on?"
A JW grabbed her by the hand, told her, "Let's go.", spun her around and left.
I told the CCW to come back whenever she wanted.
    They never came back.

Then I said "How do I know if your materials have the correct understanding of the Bible but not others? You have changed your doctrines a lot. Mathew 24:13 says he who endures till the end will be saved. Its talking about endurance thru the great tribulation this means you might be killed can you be faithful till death? Well if you answer is yes then you will be saved but if you dont know that you will endure or be faithful till death the you wont be saved. So how can you be so sure youl endure till the end? Apocalypse 2:10 Jesus warns us that the Devil will put some of his deciples into prison and will be tried to the limit, Jesus even says be faithful till death and i will give you the Crown of life. Can you be faithful till death? Really? SO THE REASON Jehovahs witnesses dont say for a With certainty that they are saved, it's because.

Ever wonder why they always show up in pairs and never alone? My theory is to help prevent any JW from discovering the truth. It's hard to convert a single JW and almost impossible to convert two. The other one is there to report any wrongdoing of the other back to the leadership so they can be properly punished and even shunned, if needed. This makes it very unlikely for any JW to have an honest conversation with you even if they are interested in your points.

The born again soul realizes that they are a sinner (Romans 3:23) and that the penalty for that sin is death (Romans 6:23). To rectify the circumstances, God sent His only Son to die in their place, to take the punishment for sin (Romans 5:8). After Jesus’ death, He arose from the dead (1 Corinthians 15:3-6). Jesus is the only way to God (John 14:6) and He provides the blessing of salvation. He could not answer, he rambled on about doing what Christ did ... following His example. I asked a second time; still not concise/clear answer. I am one of Jehovah's Witnesses. And these are my answer to these questions.
Question 1) Did Jesus return invisibly, and appoint his faithful slave?
Answer: Yes. Many confuse Jesus' presence (in kingdom power) with his coming to execute judgement at Armageddon. The gentile times ended in 1914, and Jesus was installed as king of God's kingdom in that year. This is established by both Biblical prophesy, and the sign Jesus gave at Matt 24:3-.
At 2:10 that circular reasoning is not used by JW. That is a straw man. People become JW because it is evident what they teach comes from the Bible. Recognizing this is the true congregation makes further determinations possible. Like who that slave is.
At 2:30 if Jesus would be seen, then why did he give a sign? Those specific verses are about when Jesus comes to execute judgement.
3:10 Jesus gave the sign of his presence. That is in scripture! Not the invention of men.
    --
Question 2) Are you a child of God.
Answer: Yes. While the anointed have a special relationship, and are said to be adopted as sons in a special way, all who are dedicated to God are God's children. 1 John 3:10 The children of God and the children of the Devil are evident by this fact: Whoever does not practice righteousness does not originate with God, nor does the one who does not love his brother.
The anointed are to serve with Christ, as kings over the Earth, for the benefit of faithful mankind.
    --
Question 3) Can I read the Bible on my own and come to an accurate truth?
Answer: No. That is why there are thousands of denominations. You need to be where God's spirit is! We need to meet with our brothers.
Acts 8:29 So the spirit said to Philip: “Go over and approach this chariot.” 30 Philip ran alongside and heard him reading aloud Isaiah the prophet, and he said: “Do you actually know what you are reading?” 31 He said: “Really, how could I ever do so unless someone guided me?” So he urged Philip to get on and sit down with him.
What you believe needs to be in harmony with the true congregation Jesus is head of. The question is, can you reject the congregation Jesus is head of, and still be acceptable to Jesus?

This is a post for DX (aka "Mr D C1"). The topic of the 144,000 keeps coming up and DX will not be honest and answer my questions. So I'll post them up front and see if you will answer them. Everyone, please refrain from jumping in and allowing him to divert the conversation. Please simply post "You haven't answered the question" each time he deflects but don't ask additional questions, let's get an answer.
The apocalyptic genre that John employs in Revelation routinely employs symbolic numbers (look at all the 7's and 12's in Revelation). I think it is quite evident that the 144,000 is a symbolic number but JW's insist that it is literal. If that is the case then they must be consistent and interpret the other parts of the passage literally, so lets see if DX is consistent.
“'Do not harm the earth or the sea or the trees, until we have sealed the servants of our God on their foreheads.' And I heard the number of the sealed, 144,000, sealed from every tribe of the sons of Israel: 12,000 from the tribe of Judah were sealed, 12,000 from the tribe of Reuben, 12,000 from the tribe of Gad, 12,000 from the tribe of Asher, 12,000 from the tribe of Naphtali, 12,000 from the tribe of Manasseh, 12,000 from the tribe of Simeon, 12,000 from the tribe of Levi, 12,000 from the tribe of Issachar, 12,000 from the tribe of Zebulun, 12,000 from the tribe of Joseph, 12,000 from the tribe of Benjamin were sealed.” (Rev 7:3-8)
Question 1: Do these people literally have a mark in their forehead?
Question 2: Are these Jews or Gentiles? The text mentions the twelve (12) sons of Israel, so are they Jews?
“Then I looked, and behold, on Mount Zion stood the Lamb, and with him 144,000 who had his name and his Father's name written on their foreheads. And I heard a voice from heaven like the roar of many waters and like the sound of loud thunder. The voice I heard was like the sound of harpists playing on their harps, and they were singing a new song before the throne and before the four living creatures and before the elders. No one could learn that song except the 144,000 who had been redeemed from the earth. *It is these who have not defiled themselves with women, for they are virgins.* It is these who follow the Lamb wherever he goes. These have been redeemed from mankind as firstfruits for God and the Lamb,” (Rev 14:1-4)
Question 3: Are these people literally male virgins?
Let's see if we get answers or deflections.

Then say that one of their GB members stated that if a witness reads the bible by themselves they will become apostates very quickly. Ask why that is so. Then inform them that the NT was written by men who the watch tower would call apostates as they believed in a different God, that Jesus was/is God not an angel, all (except Paul ) witnessed the risen Jesus in bodily form. They all believed the Holy Spirt is God with a personality. They all believed in a Hell, the laying of hands and prayer for healing of the sick and . One can not say anymore than the Bible teaches that Jesus is The son of God Jehovah the almighty and that Jesus is A god, not THE true god and not equal to his father Jehovah (Mathew 24:38-41) if he was he would know what Jehovah god knows would he not? He never displayed himself as equal and he did not send himself, but always said:" He that sent me" and Jehovah saying "this is my son whom I have approved". You need to do more research regarding translations of the Greek scriptures.

      Do you know Greek?
Here is a citation from one of my Greek grammars:
“John’s Gospel opens with the majestic words, ‘In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God…’ John asserts, in a striking exclamation point, that the Word was himself God. The reader is left to infer that there are two referents of θεός, God (the Father; John 1:14) and the Word (Jesus; John 1:17). John’s striking opening assertion sets up the question of Jesus’s identity that will dominate the rest of the entire Gospel, ultimately leading to Jesus’s crucifixion: the deity of Christ. In the original historical context, Jesus faces escalating opposition from the Jewish leaders who consider his claim blasphemy (5:17-18; 8:58-59; 10:30-33). Indeed, at Jesus’s trial, they tell Pilate the Roman governor, ‘We have a law, and according to that law He must die, because He made Himself the Son of God’ (John 19:7).
In our day, too, there are those who dispute Jesus’s claim to deity, not least by challenging the conventional understanding of John 1:1, and here in particular the third phrase, ‘the Word was God’ (θεὸς ἦν ὁ λόγος). In part, the reason for this is that the word order is reversed, with the predicate nominative (θεός) preceding the subject (ὁ λόγος). Is it legitimate to infer from the lack of article in front of θεός that ‘God’ is indefinite and should be rendered ‘a god’? The answer is a firm ‘no.’ According to Greek syntax, it is common for a definite nominative predicate noun preceding a finite verb to be without the article. In this way, the subject (articular) is distinguished from the predicate nominative (anarthrous, i.e., without the article), yet without indicating that the latter is indefinite (as in ‘a god’). Of course, Jesus’s deity does not rest on this one verse (see, e.g., John 20:28), but a sufficient knowledge of Greek syntax saves the reader from drawing the wrong conclusion.” Andreas J Köstenberger, Benjamin L Merkle, and Robert L Plummer, Going Deeper with New Testament Greek : An Intermediate Study of the Grammar and Syntax of the New Testament (Nashville, Tennessee: B & H Academic, 2020), 51-52.

@@BasicBiblicalTruth there is no need for Greek syntaxes consideration to be able to understand the plain Truths in the entire Bible. The deity of Jesus cannot be argued just as the Almightiness of his father Jehovah cannot be argued. Jesus is God, Jehovah is God, Satan is God, Angels are God, all are delty and divine in origin, but none of the other delties are equal to the Almighty who created them all. The entire Bible should be considered to understand the relationship of God Almighty to Jesus his son. Hebrew bible writers all believed in one delty not three. Since they never entertained such taught, it will be wrong to begin to infer that Genesis 1:1 use of the Excellence plural word "Lord" suggest Moses was implying three God. Such idea was never entertained by him. Likewise, it will be wrong to say that John at 1:1 was entertaining the idea of Jesus being of the same equality or substance with his father, since John many other verses insist that Jesus is the son of God, and even said that those who deny that Jesus is the son 9f God are Antichrist.

@@ihegbusamuel5784 It isn't necessary to know Greek syntax to understand the overarching message of the Bible, but it does help to refute error-such as the polytheistic claim that Jesus is "a god" in John 1:1.
You can argue that Gen 1:1 is a plural of excellence, but you can't make the same claim in Gen 1:26 because Hebrew didn't have a plural of excellence in relation to pronouns and verbs. The "US" is the Godhead (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit). The "OUR image" is the image of God (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit) (we are not made in the image of angels).
While the full revelation that God is triune awaited the fullness of time for the missions of the Son and Spirit (Gal 4:4), hints are given in the Hebrew text for the observant reader.
Indeed, as the non-Christian Jewish scholar Daniel Boyarin says, “Jesus, when he came, came in a form that many, many Jews were expecting: a second divine figure incarnated in a human. The question was not ‘Is a divine Messiah coming?’ but only ‘Is this carpenter from Nazareth the One we are expecting?’ Not surprisingly, some Jews said yes and some said no. Today we call the first group Christians and the second group Jews, but it was not like that then, not at all. Everybody then-both those who accepted Jesus and those who didn't-was Jewish.”[1]
The NT identifies Jesus as Jehovah, the second person of the triune God, by taking OT Jehovah passages and applying them to Jesus: Mar 1:2-3 (citing Isa 40:3 & Mal 3:1), Rom 10:13 (citing Joel 2:32), Phi 2:10-11 (citing Isa 45:23), 2Thes 1:9 (citing Isa 2:10), Heb 1:10-12 (citing Psa 102:25-27), 1Pe 2:3 (Psa 34:8), 3:14-15 (Isa 8:12-13).

That Jesus is a god in John 1:1 agrees with the entire scriptural description of Jesus relationship with his father. So argument on Greek syntaxes for and against is only scholarly arguments but the entire scripture settles the issue plainly on the Monotheistic lie against John 1:1. If you argue that because the title "Theoz" (God, god) is used for both Jesus and his father (in NT or OT) mean they are not two separate delties, differing in substance, will completely invalidate the entire scripture (See Psalm 110:1).
Even Genesis 1:26 does not in anyways prove that God and Jesus ( "US" and "OUR", which agrees with Colossians 1:15, 16), mean monotheism of God. Instead, "US" and "OUR" completely and plainly indicate plural, two or more separate beings. Moses need no hiding meaning to understand what US and OUR is - two or more separate beings.
No Revelation regarding Necean creeds are in anyways hidden in the Bible as Revelation. Any teaching not support by entire scripture cannot be any awaiting Revelation to be revealed to apostate Christians, the same ideology the Inquisition took place.
Finally, even Angels in the Bible are sometimes refer as Jehovah. This does not make them Almighty God, because those Hebrews knew well that they are Jehovah's representative and spokes person to him as Jesus was. Genesis 18:1-3. Exodus 4:13. Judges 13:6-8 e.t.c
The distinction between Jesus and his father have always been clear to servants of God at all times, both in OT and NT era. Compare Psalms 110:1 in OT and, check the citation in NT. Mathew 22:43-44. Mark 12:36. Acts 2:34, 35.

In fact, the writer to the Hebrew cites Psalm 102:25, which is about Jehovah creating all things, and says this Jehovah is Jesus (Hebrews 1:10).

I haven't read the NWT, however in Reina Valera (Spanish language), in the book of prophet Oseas, chap 3, God says that He is the only saviour and the only liberator taht took his people out of Egypt (physical and spiritual). So, if Lord Jesus came as saviour and liberator in the sipirtual realm, He is God. Besides, when he speaks with the parents of Samson, presenting as the Angel of Jehova, He accepts the adoration of Samson's parents. Also, when talks to Gedeon, he accepts the gift given by Gedeon. If Lord Jesus were an Angel of God, he could not accept the adoration or gift from human beings. Besides, in the 2nd book of Chronicles, it states that when king JOsafat prayed and asked for assistance against the armies of MOab, Amon and mount of Seir, the Sipirt of God came to a Levi's son and talked to the assembly "this is not your war, but mine". In the book of prophet Zachary, chapter 3, speaks to Zorobabel and says "it's not with army, it's not with force but with my Spirit". So, if the Hoolgy Ghost is not real, God and Lord Jesus are liars.. Some one is mistaken in our world, nad hardly is our Lord.

Ask the folks at your door "Why are you here today? Are you recruiting new members for your church?" Some will say "No, we're just out trying to encourage people to read their Bibles." If they say that, proceed to LOD's question 3. Then ask: "Why would you tell me you're here to get me to read my Bible more if, according to the WT, reading the Bible doesn't do any good"?
If the answer to "Why are you here?" is "We're telling people about God's Kingdom", you can follow up with "Why would you tell me about a kingdom you're not in?" They'll of course immediately say they ARE in it.
Ask: "Is it true that WT doctrine says only the anointed (144,000) are *born again?* "
They'll confirm that. They have to. If they don't, point them to this from JW.org:
"Misconception: A person must be born again to gain salvation or to be a Christian. Fact: Christ’s sacrifice provides salvation not only for those who are born again as the ones who will rule with Christ in heaven but also for the earthly subjects of God’s Kingdom. (1 John 2:1, 2; Revelation 5:9, 10) That second group of Christians have the opportunity to live forever in Paradise on earth.-Psalm 37:29; Matthew 6:9, 10; Revelation 21:1-5." They are clearly saying that the other sheep just *subjects* of the Kingdom, not members thereof. It says clearly that the great crowd is not born again.
Ask: "Since Jesus said you must be born again to enter the kingdom of God, doesn't that mean you're not in it?"
They'll try to say that being in the great crowd allows them into receive salvation on the coattails of the anointed.
Show them John 3:3 (NWT): "In response Jesus said to him: 'Most truly I say to you, unless anyone is born again, he cannot see the Kingdom of God.'”
Ask: "Jesus says you must be born again to see the Kingdom. WT says you aren't born again unless you're of the anointed. Doesn't that HAVE to mean you won't see the kingdom? Doesn't the GB's statement *directly conflict* with the words of Jesus?"
My intent is not to promote "gotchas". I'm trying to illustrate that they're not really honest about their motivation for being at your door. If they're not, you have to wonder *why not* . If they came right out and said "I'm here in hopes of starting a 'bible study' with you so I can get you into the organization", that wouldn't go over well for most people. So, they cloak their intent.

JESUS can see and live in that Light, so JESUS IS NOT PART OF THAT MAN AND NOR A MAN (human being in Original Greek). If Jesus remained as HUMAN , then u r saying 1 tim 6:16 is a LIE. Jesus DWELLS AND CAN SEE THAT LIGHT, but it says NO MAN (HUMAN BEING) CAN SEE. No exceptions. To be able to see that LIGHT and DWELL IN THAT LIGHT. JESUS IS NOT A MAN(human being) anymore.

In my opinion, another good reasoning against the argument of needing an outside publication is pointing out the fact that the authors of the Bible and the people who it was being spoken to at the time were bronze age shepherds and fishermen. @@777Tralfaz777 of course not. Jesus spoke primarily to the average person in the street, and when he wasn't he was talking to his disciples. The patriarchs, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, were nomadic shepherds.
And that's the point that I'm trying to make. People spend thousands of dollars on theology degrees to dissect scripture down to see if they can manipulate some hidden meaning from it when the message is actually pretty simple because it's meant for everyone regardless of their level of education.
In terms of the Pharisees of Jesus' time, it wasn't so much a lack of understanding of what Jesus was saying but what He was saying was calling them on their corruption. For example we see in John 8, they dragged a woman naked through the streets and threw her at Jesus feet in order to manipulate scripture so they could in one way or another deplatform Jesus. ‭
The teachers of the law and the Pharisees brought in a woman caught in adultery. They made her stand before the group and said to Jesus, ‘Teacher, this woman was caught in the act of adultery. In the Law Moses commanded us to stone such women. Now what do you say?’ They were using this question as a trap, in order to have a basis for accusing him. John 8:3-6 They deliberately omitted that the same law that they referred to says that both man and woman caught in the act of adultery were to be punished (Leviticus 20:10 and Deuteronomy 22:22)
The pharisees and the "teachers of the law" were trying to drive Jesus into a fork. He had been teaching forgiveness, if He said that He sided with the law, it would have discredited Him as a hypocrite. If He stuck with the message of forgiveness, He was going against the law and giving them an excuse to execute Him. This was the nature of the "educated people" of His time.

Most scholars believe that Jesus was born between 6 and 4 BC, and that Jesus' preaching began around AD 27-29. But It has been claimed that Jehovah was the invention of a Spanish monk (Raymundus Martini) in 1270 by inserting (incorrectly) the consonants (obviously this is an error -- the author probably meant "vowels") for the words often transliterated as "Elohim" and "Adonai" in between the four Hebrew letters representing the tetragrammaton of God's Holy Name in Hebrew, which he, as it has been asserted, "translated into 'Jehova' or 'Jehovah'". Here’s a couple of easy to understand verses that clearly demolish their argument that Jesus is not God. First.is Isaiah 43:10 which states “before me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after me.” This clearly tells us that Jesus cannot just be “a god.” Either He is God or He is not God. And to prove that He Himself declared He is God, let us go to John 8:58 where He stated: “ before Abraham was l am,” directing them to Exodus chapter 3 referring to Himself as the I AM of the burning bush. Also to further clarify this, 7:15 7:15 in chapter 6 verses 2,3 it says: “And God spake unto Moses, and said unto him. I AM the Lord. And I appeared unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob, by the name of God Almighty, but by my name JEHOVAH was l not known to them.” These powerful versus also demolish their argument that Jesus is nowhere referred to as God Almighty! He even refers to Himself as JEHOVAH!!!

I suspect (And correct me if I'm wrong), that if I say that the 144,000 are not literal Jews (Which I saw somewhere else that you believe they aren't anyway) and not literal virgins, etc., then what is the basis for holding that the number 144,000 IS literal?

Hi Matt, thanks for the post.
Yes, if you are going to insist that the number 144,000 is a literal number then you must be consistent and hold that they are literal Jews and literal virgins. The Watchtower-Study Edition, September 1, 2004, p. 30, cites two scholars to claim the 144,000 is a literal number, yet both of them do so while insisting that they are literal Jews in contrast to the “great multitude” who are Gentiles.
John wrote apocalyptic literature and numbers are highly symbolic. The number 12 is very symbolic:
      Rev 4:4 - 24 (12 x 2) thrones on which 24 (12 x 2) elders sit
      Rev 12:1 - a crown of 12 stars
Rev 21:12 - New Jerusalem has 12 gates that have the names of the 12 tribes of Israel, with 12 angels standing before them.
Rev 21:13 - New Jerusalem has 12 foundations that have the names of the 12 apostles.
      Rev 21:16 - New Jerusalem is 12,000 x 12,000 x 12,000.
Rev 21:17 - The thickness of the walls of New Jerusalem is 144 cubits (12 x 12).
Rev 21:19-20 - New Jerusalem has 12 different precious stones
Rev 21:21 - The gates of New Jerusalem are 12 pearls
Rev 22:2 - Inside the city the tree of life has 12 kinds of fruit and produces a new crop 12 times a year
      Rev 7:4 - 144,000 (12 x 12,000)
Rev 7:5-8 - 12,000 (12 x 1000) from each of the twelve tribes of Israel.
The number 12 in Revelation is clearly symbolic. Just as the number 7 is symbolic. Do you think there were only 7 churches in that area? No, 7 are mentioned because 7 is a symbolic number-go through Revelation and look at all the 7’s.
In fact, your own organization admitted at one time that 12 is symbolic and even listed Revelation 7:4-8 as an example of symbolism:
“Numbers in the Bible can often be taken literally, but they are sometimes used as symbols. The context usually indicates whether a particular number is used as a symbol. Consider these examples of the symbolic meaning of numbers in the Bible:…12 This number seems to represent a complete, divine arrangement. For example, the vision of heaven given to the apostle John included a city with ‘twelve foundation stones, and on them the twelve names of the twelve apostles.’ (Revelation 21:14; Genesis 49:28) Multiples of 12 can have a similar meaning. -Revelation 4:4; 7:4-8.” ijwbq article 69
Even if I granted that the 144,000 is a distinct group from the "great crowd" (which I don't agree with), you still aren’t justified in claiming that this is a literal number-it’s symbolic. To make the claim that everything in the passage is symbolic _except_ the number is nonsense, especially in light of the type of literature John is writing and the fact that the number 12 is clearly symbolic in Revelation.

@@kevinfromcanada4379 Hello. Sorry, but I don't find your argument all that strong. Of course I agree that numbers have symbolism, but that doesn't mean they can't be literal at the same time. The Bible still speaks of a literal 12 tribes of Israel, and Jesus literally had 12 Disciples. Likely this was Because of the symbolism of that number. Same as why Jehovah decided on the number 144,000 to comprise the Bride of Christ.
New Jerusalem is purely symbolic. It's a symbolic city that represents those of Jesus’ followers who go to heaven to rule with him in God’s Kingdom. (Revelation 3:12; 21:2)

Now, you claim my argument is weak. Ok, so demonstrate from the context why everything must be taken symbolically _except_ the number 144,000.
You also need to explain why your own organization in ijwbq article 69 admitted that Rev 7:4-8 is an example of the symbolic multiple of the number 12.
The issue of the 144000 is just one of many problems JW's have.

@@mattgardiner614 I don't want to withhold from you the following facts, which in this context could be instructive for you to identify the group of 144,000.
Crucially, the 144,000 are referred to as a „selection“ from all the tribes of the sons of Israel.
In Revelation 14:4, they are described as "firstlings" who were bought for God.
      Revelation 4,4 (NWT Study Edition)
„……These were bought from among mankind as firstfruits to God and to the Lamb,“
A parallel can be found in the following Bible texts.
      Romans 11,15-16 (NWT Study Edition)
„For if their being cast away means reconciliation for the world, what will the acceptance of them mean but life from the dead? 16 Further, if the part of the dough taken as f i r s t f r u i t s is holy, the entire batch is also holy; and if the root is holy, the branches are also.“
This statement refers to Revelation 5:9-10, which describes the totality of those who benefit from the blessings of Jesus' voluntary sacrificial death in this epoch.
      Revelation 5,9-10 (NWT Study Edition)
„And they sing a new song, saying: “You are worthy to take the scroll and open its seals, for you were slaughtered and with your blood you bought people for God out of every tribe and tongue* and people and nation, 10 and you made them to be a kingdom and priests to our God, and they are to rule as kingsr over the earth.”
The circle closes when one considers that Jesus was sent exclusively to the Jews to fulfill the Old Covenant.
      John 1,11-13 (NWT Study Edition)
„He came to his own home, but his own people did not accept him. 12 However, to all who did receive him, he gave authority to become God’s children, because they were exercising faith in his name. 13 And they were born, not from blood or from a fleshly will or from man’s will, but from God.“
      John 1,31 (NWT Study Edition)
„Even I did not know him, but the reason why I came baptizing in water was so that he might be made manifest to Israel.”
      Acts 3,25-26 (NWT Study Edition)
„You are the sons of the prophets and of the covenant that God made with your forefathers, saying to Abraham: ‘And by means of your offspring all the families of the earth will be blessed.’ 26 God, after raising up his Servant, sent him to you first to bless you by turning each one of you away from your wicked deeds.”
However, according to the apostle Paul, this possibility was only available to the native Jews in fulfillment of the Old Covenant as long as the temple services in the city of Jerusalem were still in operation (Hebrews 8:13).
Because with the destruction of the city and its temple in the year 70 AD by the Roman army, the surviving inhabitants were dispersed to the foreign regions and the records of tribal affiliation were destroyed. In this sense, the natural Israelites could only implement the transition from the Old Covenant to the New Covenant until this event.
When Revelation 7:1-3 speaks of angels symbolically holding back the wind, this statement is aimed at the event of the destruction of the Jewish system as a symbol of the Old Covenant, which was already foretold in the book of Daniel.
      Daniel 9,26-27 (NWT Study Edition)
“And after the 62 weeks, Messiʹah will be cut off, with nothing for himself.
“And the people of a leader who is coming will destroy the city and the holy place. And its end will be by the flood. And until the end there will be war; what is decided upon is desolations.
27 “And he will keep the covenant in force for the many for one week; and at the half of the week, he will cause sacrifice and gift offering to cease. And on the wing of disgusting things there will be the one causing desolation; and until an extermination, what was decided on will be poured out also on the one lying desolate.”
These premises are fundamental to understanding Revelation.
1.) The starting point of the visions refers to the time of the 1st century (a letter to the communities already existing at that time, which should not be sealed. (Revelation 1:4; 1,11; 22:10).
2.) All letters of the New Testament are addressed to anointed Christians. This also applies to the Letter of Revelation. This letter was not intended to introduce a second class of Christians to doctrine. The target group is clearly defined in the letter itself. (Revelation 1:6; 1:9; 2:10-11; 5:9-10).
      Question:
      =========
In order to bring about a final clarification of the question, one cannot avoid but fathom where the temple mentioned in Revelation 7:14 is located.
      Revelation 7,15 (NWT Study Edition)
"That is why they are before the throne of God, and they are rendering him sacred service day and night i n h i s t e m p l e; and the One seated on the thronep will spread his tent over them."

Nobody consciously 'knows' if there is a God and if so what that looks like. Nobody consciously "knows" if there is an after life. Nobody actually KNOWS anything...so whether there is God or not...claiming one's religion is the one TRUE one and all others are NOT ...so as making YOU the special one who KNOWS...is counter productive. We live here on this planet...the only logical thing for us to do is care for one another and this planet...not only to increase how long we live but, to increase the quality and joy of living...We cannot survive without each other. Why not work every day to be better human beings to each other. PERIOD A benevolent GOD would be pleased about that.

If you truly have a love of the truth of God's word then I pray that you would take some time by yourself with God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ and pray for truth and dive into the N.T. and don't be afraid to read in context all of the scripture that I am showing you.
The N.T. says that we are to be witnesses of Jesus, not Jehovah.
      (John 1:14-15, Acts 5:32, Acts 13:31, Acts 23:11, Revelation 20:4)
      Acts 1:8
      King James Version
8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be WITNESSES unto ME both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.
NOWHERE does it say that Jesus was an angel, NOWHERE!
It says he is God in the flesh, not God the Father but God the Word.
Sadly in the 1800's a lot of Zionist Jews (wolves) came out and created lies and people followed. I believe it was Ellen White of S.D.A. who was the first one to say that Jesus was an angel, even the brother of Satan.
I believe the Mormons have something similar, the same with J.W.'s, who sadly are not the witnesses of Jesus as the Bible says.
This is not new though, the writer of the book of Hebrews had to address this to the Hebrews, that is how I know where the teaching that Jesus was an angel, comes from.
No, Jesus was NOT an angel, the angel of the Lord is Jesus's angel.
Jesus was the Word of God and created all things including the angels.
Compare these verses please, where the LORD and the Lord speak of the angel of the Lord as "mine angel".
      (Exodus 23:23, Exodus 32:34 and Revelation 22:16)
Jesus the Lord sent his angel, and calls that angel "mine angel".
The Lord Jesus has been reigning over his church since he ascended to be glorified, he was given all power over heaven and earth.
      (Matthew 28:17-20)
And NO Jesus never said he would return invisibly, with no proof, my goodness no! Beware of false prophets!
Every eye will see the Lord when he returns in the clouds!
      (Revelation 1:7)
      Matthew 24:21-30
      King James Version
21 For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be.
22 And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect's sake those days shall be shortened.
23 Then if any man shall say unto you, Lo, here is Christ, or there; believe it not.
24 For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.
25 Behold, I have told you before.
26 Wherefore if they shall say unto you, Behold, he is in the desert; go not forth: behold, he is in the secret chambers; believe it not.
27 For as the lightning cometh out of the east, and shineth even unto the west; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.
28 For wheresoever the carcase is, there will the eagles be gathered together.
29 Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken:
30 And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.
      ...............
Jesus is to be worshipped as Lord and we know that we are never to worship an angel. His disciples worshipped him because they knew who he truly was and is and is to come. Even the wise men knew who Jesus was, even as a baby, they worshipped him.
Do not listen to men as if they are in place of the Lord Jesus Christ, that is what some Catholics and some protestants do, exalting mere men as if they were God himself. That is how they gain control.
Worship Jesus and call him "Lord", all to the glory of God the Father.
      (Matthew 2:11, Matthew 8:2, Matthew 9:18, Matthew 14:33, Matthew 15:25, Matthew 28:9, Matthew 28:17, Mark 5:6, Luke 24:52, John 9:28)
      (Philippians 2:9-11)
      Please read this.....
vs. 5 is asking....to which of the angels did he ever say this at any time?
which means that God never did say that about any angel and you will NOT find it written in the Bible.
vs. 6 speaking of the Lord Jesus Christ "let all the angels of God worship him"
vs.8 God spoke of the Son saying "Thy throne O God, is for ever and ever".
      Hebrews 1:5-8
      King James Version
5 For unto which of the angels said he at any time, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee? And again, I will be to him a Father, and he shall be to me a Son?
6 And again, when he bringeth in the firstbegotten into the world, he saith, And let all the angels of God worship him.
7 And of the angels he saith, Who maketh his angels spirits, and his ministers a flame of fire.
8 But unto the Son he saith, Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: a sceptre of righteousness is the sceptre of thy kingdom.
      ...............
We are in the perilous last days where there are many false prophets and false teachers....Be Not Deceived.
Only believe the written word of God in the N.T. aka the new covenant.
The so called governing body of J.W.'s is NOT infallible!
Just like the Pope is NOT infallible!
We are supposed to search the scriptures to see if what they say is true.
We are to test the spirits because many antichrists came even in the beginning of the church and many have come out again, especially in the 1800's and on.
Do NOT read their Bible translation because they have taken out words and added words. God is to be called Father because he is our Father, nowhere does it actually say to call him Jehovah in the N.T.
I'm praying for you and others who have been caught up into believing things that are NOT Biblical just like the many other denominations.
Another thing that you should think about........J.W.'s are quite proud in that they are not of the world but is that really true?
The organization accepts tax exemptions from the governments/the world in order to gain more money.
But Jesus said to pay the government taxes when the Jews tried to trip him up. All denominations are registered with the government/the world as a non profit BUSINESS in order to NOT pay taxes, why?
      For money of course.
Then the government owns them in part because they are friends of the world (only a friend gives a tax break) which makes them enemies of God. (Luke 20:21-25) (James 4:4)
That is how they got most of the churches to close down during covid, the ones who fought it and actually lived by faith were threatened with having their tax exemptions taken away and even having to pay back taxes.
Why? Because they made a deal with the government, they entered into a friendship with the government and were not doing the will of the government but the will of God.
Some even went to prison over it. This has been the closest thing to persecution that the western churches have seen in years.
Many denominations fell from the faith that was once delivered to the saints. (2 Thessalonians 2:1-4, Jude 1:3)
Always reminds me of the state of things when the Son of man, the Lord Jesus Christ returns.
There will be little faith left. Many will have been martyred for being faithful and only a remnant will be left alive when he returns after he raised the dead in Christ first.
      Luke 18:7-8
      King James Version
7 And shall not God avenge his own elect, which cry day and night unto him, though he bear long with them?
8 I tell you that he will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth?

And he desired Philip that he would come up and sit with him. [32] The place of the scripture which he read was this, He was led as a sheep to the slaughter; And like a lamb dumb before his shearer, So opened he not his mouth: [33] In his humiliation his judgment was taken away: And who shall declare his generation? For his life is taken from the earth. [34] And the eunuch answered Philip, and said, I pray thee, of whom speaketh the prophet this? of himself, or of some other man? [35] Then Philip opened his mouth, and began at the same scripture, and preached unto him Jesus. [36] And as they went on their way, they came unto a certain water: and the eunuch said, See, here is water; what doth hinder me to be baptized? [37] And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. [38] And he commanded the chariot to stand still: and they went down both into the water, both Philip and the eunuch; and he baptized him. [39] And when they were come up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord caught away Philip, that the eunuch saw him no more: and he went on his way rejoicing. [40] But Philip was found at Azotus: and passing through he preached in all the cities, till he came to Cæsarea.

My friend, as a trinitarian, I want to be the one to respond to your post so it can be done in gentleness and love. Most modern versions (not only the NWT) do not contain Acts 8:37 because the earliest manuscripts do not contain it. I encourage you to read the NET not at the end of Acts 8:36 for the reason the verse is omitted in modern versions.
For people who are unaware of textual variants in the manuscripts, it can be jarring to their faith but it shouldn't be. If the textual transmission was closely guarded by a single group, like the RCC, then I would expect there to be very few variants... but then I would wonder how much of it is original and how much has changed. For instance, Muslims claim the Quran is letter for letter, dot for dot unchanged since the time of Muhammad. This is complete nonsense, but it makes for a good apologetic among the ignorant. However, they do have much fewer variants in their manuscripts than the Bible does. Why? 1) They have fewer manuscripts, 2) their religion is younger than ours, 3) Christianity was illegal for the first 300 years of its inception whereas Islam was dominant and spread by the sword, and 4) Christianity wasn't centralized, Islam was. This is really important. Christianity spread everywhere and people copied books of the Bible wherever they could. When Islam spread and people started to realize that their Quran's differed, Uthman (one of the early leaders) made a new Quran and ordered everyone to burn their old Quranic manuscripts. In 1924, they made the Cairo ed of the Quran and threw all the other manuscripts that differed from it into the Nile River.
Looking at the Quran, a person wonders, "How can you ever know what the original said?"
But since Christians don't destroy their manuscripts, we can compare all of them and determine what the original said.
There are over 500,000 variants (differences) between the Biblical manuscripts... because we have thousands of manuscripts! 99% are spelling differences and nonsense errors. I would take a million variants with thousands of manuscripts spread out over the world than to have very few variants and only a handful of manuscripts that had been clearly manipulated by the leaders of the religion.
I encourage you to do some research into textual criticism. Dan Wallace is a good place to start.

I find that the simplest way to talk to a Jehovah Witness is to follow Christ’s example when in speaking to the religious leaders of his day. They in trying to trap Jesus, asked him, is it lawful to give tribute unto Caesar, or not? Jesus wisely asked them for a coin and responded, who is this image, render unto Caesar the things that are Caesar’s and unto God the things that are God’s. Here’s my point, as a Christian we believe in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. We know from the Bible that there is only one true God in three persons, God the Father, God the Son, and God the HolySpirit, and these three are One. Oh, but they’ll say, you’re a pagan, you have three gods. No, I just explained to you from the Bible that they are one God. It is you who are pagan. So I ask them, who is Jehovah? He is God they’ll respond. Then who is Jesus?
He is a minor or lesser god, is usually their answer. So I say to them, you have more than one God. It is you who are the pagans. Let me introduce you to the true God of the Bible, not the one your early founders made up. If they’re open to the truth there are dozens upon dozens of Scriptures you can share with them. If not, they’ll move on in their darkness.

You said "Then who is Jesus?
He is a minor or lesser god, is usually their answer."
No. While Jesus is a god, as even the judges of Israel were called gods in the Bible, a Witness would reply Jesus is God's Son, the one sent by God. Probably 99.9% of the time. No JW will say Jesus is a minor or lesser god to that specific question.
You said "So I say to them, you have more than one God."
The Jews and early Christians were monolatrists. As even the angels were called elohim, gods, in the Psalms. And, as mentioned earlier, even the judges of Israel were called gods by God Himself.

Even a Christian cannot brush aside the worship of Jehovah as God. In Revelation 1:5 the Son of God called himself "Jesus Christ, 'The Faithful Witness.'" When on earth as a man he was a Jew, an Israelite, to whose nation the words of Isaiah 43:10 were written: "'You are my witnesses, 'is the utterance of Jehovah, 'even my servant whom I have chosen.'" Jesus demonstrated that he was a faithful and true witness of Jehovah God. His genuine disciples today must be the same kind of witnesses, Jehovah's.

  • @christopherquinn5899
    @christopherquinn5899 ปีที่แล้ว

This is quite good and will prove useful but it is flawed because you cannot just rely upon personal revelation that may come from reading the scriptures; they aren't open to personal interpretation. Remember Philip and the Ethiopian in Acts 8.
30 Then Philip ran up to the chariot and heard the man reading Isaiah the prophet. “Do you understand what you are reading?” Philip asked.
31 “How can I,” he said, “unless someone explains it to me?” So he invited Philip to come up and sit with him.
Philip then explained the passage of scripture that the Ethiopian was reading, and told him the good news about Jesus.
Simply reading the scriptures wasn't sufficient then, nor is it today. They must be read in the light of the tradition and understanding handed down to the apostles and taught by them. Jehovah's Witnesses could point out this flaw in your argument, however they can't claim to be part of the apostolic church and lack the authority that comes from them.

    • @LightoverDarkMinistry
      @LightoverDarkMinistry  ปีที่แล้ว

Well if not us then who? If we are not capable of interpreting Scripture for ourselves then who is? You would have to claim superiority that one’s interpretation is absolute, and the reasons would be self authenticating. There is no way to know if the interpreter is speaking from the Holy Spirit or personal bias, and also no way to confirm as you’ve positioned yourself as completely lacking. With the example in acts, Phillips doesn’t have the New Testament. He vocally gives this man the fulfillment of the prophecy in Isaiah 53. We don’t need this today, we have the 4 gospels. Just my thoughts on it.

    • @christopherquinn5899
      @christopherquinn5899 ปีที่แล้ว

@@LightoverDarkMinistry Well you have it there: who can claim superiority? If you and I were to disagree on something to do with the interpretation of scripture it is just one word against another, furthermore there is more to Christianity than what is written down. Personal understanding wouldn't impress Jehovah's Witnesses, but if you could ask them who taught them and what authority did these teachers have you would be onto something because these people do not derive their understanding from apostolic teaching. Their authority is not derived from the Church established by Jesus Christ when he taught his apostles over several years and when he conferred authority upon St Peter. Rather it is another one of these American cults that has cropped up from time to time and which decided that 1900 years after Christ they alone had realised that we got it wrong furthermore that the Christians taught by Jesus (and who taught others in turn) had completely misunderstood what He said and got it wrong themselves.
Jesus Christ taught his apostles over several years and conferred authority upon Peter saying that he would build his church upon him as the rock. We can understand the tradition from what was handed down to us from Christ, His apostles and those who sat at the feet of the apostles, i.e. the Church Fathers. Reading scriptures for yourself is not enough, this has to be done in the light of apostolic understanding and teaching. So I would say that one should refer to the Church that was established by Jesus Christ, and which taught us about Him, as well as determining what would comprise the Bible.
There is a danger in relying upon personal interpretation of scripture, for instance, Arianism can be argued from scripture just as the Trinity can, but it takes the tradition handed down to us from the Apostles to understand that the Trinity is the correct understanding of God. You have to ask yourself where this tradition, understanding and authority can be found.
When I decided to learn more about Christianity I used to be attracted to Sola Scriptura and was very suspicious of Tradition, until I learned more. I recommend "By What Authority?: An Evangelical Discovers Catholic Tradition" by Mark Shea. It is a very good read and it really opened my eyes.
I don't want to be a nuisance on your channel so I will leave it there.
      Best wishes.
