Moving and living to Mazatlan is a big change, and like in any other country, it has it's cons and pros. It's normal to feel uneasy at first - after all, you are moving into another country. However, things here are a lot different from where you are coming from. Yessssssssss coming from Europe (trilingual) and simply loving this country with all its goodies (culture, history, climate, food, mexican Spanish and the indigenous influence), grateful for anything Mexico is adding to my “third life’s quality” after retiring, not identifying as EXPAT but immigrant, interested in living like the locals (not importing my previous life), used to basic camping during lifetime and therefore not addicted to a luxury lifestyle at all.
Great info Mariana! Thanks! The perception of things being good or bad I think sometimes depends a lot of where the person is moving from, like the traffic topic, I have noticed is not something that will bother someone coming from New York. 😅
I just received my permanent resident visa into my passport today! Heading to Mexico City to exchange it for permanent residency card. Then I will go back to Mexico in January and spend my time traveling to the cities I am interested in - Guanajuato, Morelia, Puebla, Taxco, Oaxaca, Puerto Escondido, San Cristobal and Merida. So far Guanajuato and Oaxaca are the two cities I keep gravitating to. Not fluent in Spanish but dedicating time every day and working hard on it. Any thoughts or opinions on any of these cities would be welcomed! Puerto Escondido more just to check out for beach holidays, not to live.
❤ thank you for your valuable information. I might add the fact about the lack of window and door screens and mosquitoes can be a problem. Also no A/C in many places.
I traveled a lot around Mexico over the years and oddly enough the locations with the least nightly noise were Guadalajara and Mexico city. Traffic noise during the day doesn't bother me but noise at night prevents me from sleeping. Smelly garbage because you can't flush paper is annoying and so is non potable water. Love Mexico but didn't move there, hope to visit back soon.
You can flush toilet paper in most places, it used to be because of drainage not being adequate or septic tank, I can flush it in the house in Baja California that has a septic tank and I can flush it in the house in Guanajuato that connects to the sewer system
Couple Questions, you talked about hard to find small appliances and bedding, are those things hard to find in Merida with all the shopping available?? And I've heard a lot of people living in MX tell me they can order anything on Amazon and it comes right to their home is this true? Is there a good place to order sheets from...maybe Mexican Wal-Mart or Amazon?? Thanks ❤
You can find everything in Mexico, truly. But you may need to look more if you're very picky about brands or other specs. But you can find everything in Merida. I was just sharing some of the common complaints I read about or customers tell me about :)

Hi Mariana beautiful footage of marina we are 83 years old. We do recommend that we move to Mexico at this late in our age we’d like to move to a neighborhood living food at the end of the day onto what are some of the negative living in Mexico time around here❤
Two things that bother me in Mexico are noise--pretty constant fireworks and other noise. But much more than that, the situation with street animals. We have that problem in the USA as well, but it's not quite as severe. And in places where people are struggling to get by, of course animal welfare will be a lower priority. But I would love to help in Mexico.
you can get involved with animal rescues for sure. There are tons of them depending where you move to. And if there isn't one where you live, maybe you can start it. The noise issue isn't going to stop, so you may need to be frank with yourself and consider if you can handle it.
Thanks so much. I love the honesty. There is always pros and cons to everything. Alot of Americans feel they are entitled and unrealistic with their expectations. Every county is different and should expect it to be like your home country. You have to adopt to Mexican culture. As a animal lover, the animal treatment in Mexico is off putting to me. But I its changing and know people who volunteer their doing animal welfare. Animal is not great some parts of the U.S.
In some cases, they don’t have the filter for grey water so your bathroom may smell lik sewer Not being able to flush toilet paper is also an issue in very old buildings. Which is not very common
@@MexicoRelocationGuide I have heard others on youtube channels remark about the inability to flush toilet paper and experienced it when I was recently in Morelia. Perhaps I generalized the practice and if it is not true, I apologize.

It’s nice to think about the bigger picture rather than just your account. If you want to live in a world where bribes are common and the money is funneled elsewhere, then pay the bribe.
In the 43 years I've been living in Mexico only 1 ticket for not wearing my seatbelt. Fine 30 dollars. If you pay within 5 days you get a 50% discount. Not worth going through the rather embarrassing process of bribing. I've just been lucky I guess.
Thank you for a great video! You touched on a lot of important topics.i especially appreciated the topic on mis information…Everyone is an “Expert on Mexico” there are so many people that throw videos on TH-cam pretending to know everything about that particular State or City because they have been there for a month or so. It is bothersome and ridiculous. People that move to Mexico from the US or Canada should never ever try to change such an amazing country. If so, They should stay up North where they belong. BTW….I can’t believe you went the entire hour speaking nonstop without taking a drink of water. That, is an amazing feat on its own!! Lol Thanks again for a lovely video. 🇲🇽
Thanks Steven! Yes- Mexico is unique and we should try to keep it that way. If someone wants a smaller version of the USA for a lower cost, this isn't the place. Thanks for watching amigo

I use a mail service in Texas. They scan all my mail and email it to me. I did have to send some information back to the US and I used DHL. It was not cheap. Think about how much mail you really get these days that is not junk mail.
The mail system in Mexico (correos de Mexico) isn't the best. Sometimes you get your mail and sometimes it gets lost. Most people use 3rd parties like Fedex, DHL or other.
@MexicoRelocationGuide Maybe you can do a video on the mail system there on how it works???. Because I talked to a lot of different people that are from mexico. Some people say bad things and some people say good things.
There are the ones and the others. Who could tell something about “the Mexicans” meaning all - same as you got different perspectives as other Canadians.
Mexico is not for everybody... even within the same family. My wife and I love Mexico. My mother also. My younger sister and father cringe every time my mother or I take a trip in Mexico. No matter what the statistics say, my father calls Mexico dangerous. My sister calls Mexico 'dirty'. Then again my sister is content hanging around only expats. My father, well that is a different thing.
If you are considering a move to Mexico, you need to purchase the MRG. It is a wealth of information and well worth the investment. It has saved us a ton of time and money.
iI going to spend enough time in Mexico to decide for myself! Which includes visiting several different places in Mexico and I am hoping I find the place I fall in love with because I am starting not to like the USA!
Use ear plugs, bring your kitchen gadgets when moving, no place is perfect if buying property ask local and buy from a local from word of mouth and get a lawyer for your transaction when you there don’t look online for realtors or properties good luck
Mérida is the safest city with a population of 1 million in México, but it's the second safest city with a population of 1 million in North America. Quebec City is the safest city in North America.
Mexico is not the US, life is different than where you live the paise of life is slower in Mexico, the culture is different you have to adapt to it, you want to move to Mexico go for a month look around ask questions, and if you don't like it go somewhere in the country and find it
Depending on the medication, you would either get them over the counter at a pharmacy. Or might need a prescription from a Dr. - but you would get all medications at a pharmacy

PS, it may be a good idea to have a plan B in the event that the chosen country is not in sync with a wish list that folks may have.
Thanks for your comment! I agree- it's a good idea to always have a plan B. Even if you move to Mexico, you should have a plan B in case you don't like it here :)
Im willing to leave everything behind Except my cookware/utensils. I cook alot and have paid a ton of money for it. $300 worth of goods per flight and $500 in an auto thru the border. NEVER, EVER BRING ANYTHING THRU CUSTOMS/IMMIGRATION IN THR ORIGINAL BOX. Same for driving over the border. Only bring ** 1 lap top per person**, Says this on Immigration form. These examples could signal to the agent that you 'might' resell it in Mexico. But just know it is 'always' up to Customs/Immigration officers. For me I will not enter the country if they attempt to charge me an import tax. I will try the next day.

Thanks again for a lovely video. 🇲🇽
Thanks Steven! Yes- Mexico is unique and we should try to keep it that way. If someone wants a smaller version of the USA for a lower cost, this isn't the place. Thanks for watching amigo
I rented a car to travel around Jalisco, but when i visited my mom in Guadalajara i told my mom that i wasnt driving cause of the traffic. So my mom was our tour guide riding the buses😂
And now you know how to ride the buses. I see this as a plus!
@@MexicoRelocationGuide i was raised in jalisco so i know about public transport,,,,, but my wife didnt so it was a new experience especially when i told her to sit on the spot where you feel all of the road bumps🤣
How is the mail there ??how does one get mail there or receive packages???
Thanks for the suggestion
Email works just fine, also here in Mexico. It must have been at least 20 years that I haven't used paper "snailmail".
as a canadian do mexicans want me to be there as a resident or are they angry i am bringing in money that prices them out.
There are the ones and the others. Who could tell something about “the Mexicans” meaning all - same as you got different perspectives as other Canadians.
Couldn't have said it better @anneli :)
My First time. Thank you, NJ.
Welcome!
Thanks for sharing, and loving Mexico just the way it is. Perfectly imperfect 🇲🇽❤️

If you are considering a move to Mexico, you need to purchase the MRG. It is a wealth of information and well worth the investment. It has saved us a ton of time and money.
What is MRG????
Mexico Relocation Guide
You're talking about right here where I'm watching this video? so how would you purchase it? I don't understand??

iI going to spend enough time in Mexico to decide for myself! Which includes visiting several different places in Mexico and I am hoping I find the place I fall in love with because I am starting not to like the USA!
I think this is the best plan- to spend time in different areas before deciding :) thanks for watching
Going to Playa in August for 3 weeks to see for myself!!
Use ear plugs, bring your kitchen gadgets when moving, no place is perfect if buying property ask local and buy from a local from word of mouth and get a lawyer for your transaction when you there don’t look online for realtors or properties good luck
Good evening
Mérida is the safest city with a population of 1 million in México, but it's the second safest city with a population of 1 million in North America. Quebec City is the safest city in North America.
Mexico is not the US, life is different than where you live the paise of life is slower in Mexico, the culture is different you have to adapt to it, you want to move to Mexico go for a month look around ask questions, and if you don't like it go somewhere in the country and find it

How do I get my meds when I’m living there?
Depending on the medication, you would either get them over the counter at a pharmacy. Or might need a prescription from a Dr. - but you would get all medications at a pharmacy
Hola Mariana, Buenos Dias, de Hope BC Canada
We are interested in your feedback, it has helped shape our vision of expectations. We are coming to baja sur, to scout for our forever home. likely next year 2024. we appreciate your passion for mexico and your candid comments. We have some idea about the general population being very open and friendly, and maybe not as quick to respond as we would be used to in Canada. I think if we retire in an area, we will also be prepared to "hurry up and WAIT "..lol. so Gracias , looking forward to viewing more of your relocation guide videos.
First of all are you even obligated by law to follow cops to a station?
you’re not obligated but if they suggest that’s the way to pay a ticket then do it. don’t pay a bribe
The Post Office. Your mails got lost
Yeap. Happens often
How is Mexico for disabled people in wheelchairs?
