At 22 yrs old and making shit for wages, I took a gamble and bought 20 acres for $1,150.00 an acre. That was 18 yrs ago. Today my land is paid for and would go for $6000.00 an acre on the low end. Built my tiny off grid log cabin by myself 4 yrs ago and paid all in cash which has added $40k to that property. Some choose the stock market. I choose land everytime. And I don't have to wait til I'm 65 yrs old to enjoy it. I have zero in the stock market because I don't trust others gambling with my hard earned money.

Taxes on land get cheap when you put a few cattle on it and change how your taxed. City slickers wouldn't understand such logic. Land taxes are nothing when done right

@@Don.E.63 20 acres in Indiana. I pay under $300.00 a year in taxes and make 1800.00 renting it out to a farmer for cash rent. When the market tanks like it has this week, nows the time to buy land.
That’s what he’s trying to say to people that have money to afford the land obviously they can afford the taxes and anything else. But he’s very smart about it cause the land ain’t going nowhere unless you’re dumb and lose it.

The down side of investing in land is, when you sell it to a builder
it goes away for good!
It becomes more development's and shopping centers that we don't need.
Imo,Land is better suited for people that want to preserve it ,farm it or keep it for hunting.

A person can win the lottery and have a bunch of money but that doesn't give them a wealth of life experience nor a lick of common Sense. When I young I had a lot of self confidence but zero experience to share with a younger person. Now that I have lived for over a half a century I can discern some things out before they happen but certainly not everything. I teach my grandchildren about things I have learned. Phil is a wealthy man in many ways but most importantly is the faith he walks in. Life is short eternity is forever being prepared is storing up riches in an eternal state. I thank you for your input and respect your position, I live for Christ Jesus and no longer for myself. Blessings

Money in the stock market isn't physical money, it's the dollar value of individual stock shares you own. It only becomes real physical money when you cash out your stock shares at the given price they are worth at the time of the transaction.
You only lose the “investment” when you sell it at the low. If you wade the rough waters and buy some more out of these opportunities. Yes I own land and yes I’m in the market. Yes I’m a believer and yes I’m married to a financial advisor who isn’t a fast talker.

I went to purchase some property today . This was a private sale for $ 225,000.00 The attorney also told me $ 195,000.00 CASH . The family that owns the property are from Pennsylvania. I give them a call. Tell them I have cash, and I want a price on the property. He says he has a realtor that took over. When i call her she wants to know my info to check my credit. I said lady I have cash . How much is the property ? She says how much would you like to spend. I ask her why. She says we have much nicer property. I told her i was only interested in this property because it joins my other properties,and I was under the assumption this was a private sell. I say is the property for sale and if it is how much? I wanted to buy and pay cash. She goes in a different room calls her boss and tells him my client is a buyer with cash! He says'' Do not sell him the property unless he is willing to put his money in a Bank ''. Their reason was it would be easier to wire everyone their share. We had a conference call . I said lady I have my Own Bank with several guards that are on standby 24 hours a day 7 days a week and all it cost me is a little lubrication! I said they are Browning,Beretta,Benelli,Colt,CZ,Daniel Defense,FN Herstal,Glock,Kimber,Mossberg,Remington,Ruger,Sig,Smith&Wesson,Walther,Weatherby,and Winchester. After I told her this. she says ''Sir are you a Red Neck'' I told her I consider myself a Educated Southern Gentlemen and if I can buy the property I have cash to do so. Well after 3 hours of paperwork. They finally agreed to let me pay them with Cashiers Checks. So I tell the bank teller I want to purchase a cashiers check for $190,000 . She says ''OMG'' ! Folks they call the police on me!! It takes me another 2 hours of talking and them checking my cash before they allow me to buy several cashier checks. I finally got to purchase the property ! Folks the only reason i went ahead and bought the property is to keep all my neighbors at a distance. Plus when I go to meet our heavenly father if for some reason my family can't manage they could sell a few acres for some cash. Folks I was treated like a Criminal today! I think everyone should be in control of their own money,gold,silver........ What is the world coming to??? UNASHAMED FROM OHIO!!!

You don't own land you lease it from the government, if you don't or can't pay your taxes they take it.

Exactly you can have all the land in the world but if you can’t pay the taxes on it you lose it just like you do when you’re investing
You're right. Land is only a financial asset when you're working it to make it pay. Otherwise it's just another expense that makes you poor. Taxes, lawn mowing, all kinds of upkeep expenses for a house. Plus, as you get older all that gets harder. There is something to be said for land in a SHTF situation, which we may well be at the beginning of. Also as a lifestyle choice it can be a good thing. I have a little land and invest in stock too.

This was very good, but when Jase's money in the stock market was lost, it did in fact disappear. It is the "perceived" value of a stock that makes it increase or decrease in value. Just like if I was going to buy a Duck Commander duck whistle for $20. Who says it's worth $20? It is "perceived" value. Investing in a stock is investing in a business. And in a capitalistic land like America, business is what powers the whole show. If you've invested in 500 of the largest businesses in the world (an S&P 500 index fund) and it goes to zero, you've got bigger problems than you could've ever imagined because America has ceased to exist and at that point no amount of land that you own will matter because it will be every man for himself. It is always a treat to hear Phil's view, tho. He is very conservative and there is NOTHING wrong with that.
I too once had this same sentiment....but as I quickly learned a bank will not give you any interest you basically have no other option but to take a chance .
So I back up with prayer and the lord to guide me ...

I haven't lost anything in this stock market crash. I still own the same shares of the same companies. They are just worth less right now. In recessions, land also losses value and becomes worth less. Overall both shares of (good) companies and land increases in value. All is good, diversity is the key.

I respect Phil so much, but I respect Jase as well, his fathers advice is still pertinent to him. That is respect for your elders and honoring his father. I have made a Lil money on the market but took it out before the crash of 08. My father who has passed lost 12 grand in the market then. I have owned property 3 times and always was able to sell it for a gain. Great advice. Love these guys and I love Jesus.

Phil has a great point. Land is tangible to the point where you can see it, touch it and smell it. It will always be there regardless of its value. On the other hand, stocks can out right disappear.
