Yeah. Things with my sister got better first when we didn't have to share a bedroom, then once I moved out at sixteen and then again when the hormonal imbalances settled down. We've still had some seriously big fall outs over the intervening decade or so but each time we make up we come out stronger.

Same with my sister and me. We had a huge fight the Christmas before I moved out and didn't talk for a while and then I moved out in February. When I moved out I really thought we wouldn't be friends at all as adults and just see eachother during holidays. My sister moved to university the following fall and after that we slowly became better friends as she would call me for advice or to vent, and we didn't have to compete as much for the parents' attention. Now she's probably one of my closest friends and we only fight during the holidays around family, lol! I'm the older sister so I always try to speak encouragement into her life.

Sisters become friends when they stop hanging out 24/7

I'm 5 1/2 years older than my sister, so for the longest time, we were roommates who shared DNA. There was too much of a gulf between us for us to really connect. We didn't have the same friends, didn't have the same tastes in music/movies/TV, we certainly didn't attend the same schools at a certain point, and we couldn't share clothes, shoes, or makeup. It wasn't until we were in our 20s that we finally had life experiences in common and could be actual friends. People who did stuff together not because of familial obligation, but because we wanted to. I sometimes wonder if our childhood/teenage years would have been different if we were closer in age, but I actually like the fact that we were allowed to develop our own personalities and our own circle of friends independent from one another.

I relate so much! I became a lot closer to my sister once we were both out of the house and we became even closer, funnily enough, when she got married and had kids. As teenagers we weren't that close bc we had different interests/priorities, but now our sensibilities are more similar that we connect better.

I practically worshiped my three older sisters growing up. I was the baby. I thought they were all wonderful in their own special ways. Now that I'm older, I can't stand the sight of them. Three psycho witches, stirring their cauldron and sharing an eyeball. They never forgave me for growing up and ceasing to be their doll. The thought of sisters as friends is alien to me.

Omg, I was driving a 1993 car in 2012 in high school. I don't even remember if my younger sisters accepted that as a hand-me-down?!? I feel like they just took my parents' van more often than not, whenever they could.

My sister tormented and bullied me growing up and said things tht r VERY not ok to me.....when I got a little older she stopped torturing me and didn't say mean things ... then in high-school we became kind of friends ...but we r both 21 and 22 and I can't stand her I only have contact with her becuz of my niece ..... she is mean, rude, Obnoxious and obnoxiously loud, doesn't care about anyone but herself, amd she literally expects everything to be given to her ...and my mom treats her like royalty..... I love my family but the only one tht I connect with best is my brother and he is 7 years younger than me, we don't always get a long and he definitely has had a lot easier life than wht I have had but he has severe anxiety... so we bond a lot with mental health like anxiety and depression (even though my depression is severe and my anxiety is kind of manageable, and he is opposite) I think family should stick together and love eachother, but I also believe tht u should remove negativity from ur life... like my sister can walk into a room and immediately change the atmosphere in the room and make it very tense and Chaotic...which is too much for me and my brother
