As soon as June started singing, I felt a tingling physical reaction. She has one of the finest, purest voices I have ever heard. This is a great song and I love the original. This version is totally different but still as hauntingly bleak. 💕
June Tabor a long established folkie singing Love Will Tear Us Apart? Would have thought impossible song to cover but she does it so well and with integrity
Wow, what a surprise. I never really got this song emotionally, though I liked Joy Division. Sometimes it takes a really good cover to release a song or realise its full potential. This performance is honest and vulnerable. The refrain sounds like its being sung by people who have actually been torn apart by love. In the same way as with Leonard's best work, we can connect with the universality of the experience of loving and losing. Not sure what Ian Curtis would make of this, but I think there's a quiet place in all our souls where we can come as we are, hold each other gently, and only wonder at the beauty of it all.
The only word for this is heartbreaking. I love joy division but in this version the lyrics really stand out. If you have ever gone through a bad breakup this is a forensic examination of emotion. "You cry out in your sleep, all my feelings exposed" Christ this cuts to the bone. You want out but you don't really want to hurt the other person but it has to be done. Raw.
I misunderstood June Tabor until I saw her live. She is not a preserved-in-aspic folkie - she is a performer who believes in a living tradition and a good story. She is self-effacing and funny.
Lovely rendition of one of the unlikeliest choices for these musicians to cover, at least to my mind. It certainly has a different sound and affect from the Joy Division original.
She is amazing I love June tabor, such a beautiful talent
I always liked the original song but this version has a fragile vulnerability that lifts it to another level for me.Absolutely stunning!

Wow, full body chills. this is an astounding interpretation of a classic song, beautifully performed
Must be one of the best songs ever. Lyrics so brutally honest, this version makes me appreciate them even more
Love this version 💜
I saw June live on the Ferry in Glasgow many years ago. She is brought out of her shell by the Oyster Band. They are good together.

Belmont Tench ( of Tom Petty) did a slow version like this that really expresses the great lyrics.

Why sunglasses inside in the dark?

Dunno. Ask Roy Orbison or The Blues Brothers.
Why not
@@Growler57 verbose for a dead guy
I wonder if this version will upset already depressed Joy Division fans.
Mesmerising.. What a force is June Tabor.. The bloke is popping his ps and is too close to the Mike. Ffs.

It certainly changes the song by putting it into the mouths of middle-aged people. In some ways, it makes it even more bleak.
