    I was shocked when I saw the Batboat! A couple of my friends had a Playmaster back in high school. Everybody called it the Batboat. It was painted in the same style as the '57 Chevy Bel Airs, the main body color being blue and the wings were white, topsides were white too. My friends traded that boat back and forth between eachother at least 3 times that I can recall. Everybody had a blast with that boat. I vaguely remember the stories but I'll never forget their laughter. I'll continued on FB.

    Hey thanks for your quick reply. It is 1:19 am here and I cannot stop watching your vids as they are so helpful. The boat I just got er hum... I haven't a clue what it is apart from a wreck haha. it cost me £99 with a trailer too!the seller mentioned vintage fletcher, plancraft? . lick of paint and an outboard motor and she will be a good one.. after atching your work i think not. alot of TLC needed .

    If you haven't been to Fiberglassics.com that's an enthusiast site since 1998 for old glass boats. Years ago I redid a 1960 Larson Playboy with new stringers, floor and transom. SO MUCH work on these old fiberglass boats, and most folks don't do them right. Thanks for sharing!

    Gee what a treat, I remember from my childhood, my Dad built one with a very similar shape, but out of plywood.
    He obtained the plans for the entire boat from ' Popular Mechanics' a very popular magazine at that time. They did a full article on the plywood version. I think it was around 1958- 1960. The plans are still available 'on line'
    The boat was plywood and board ribs/ frames, then covered in marine grade plywood. As well it had a fancy two color paint job, she was a beauty. It was one of his last projects.
    The boat was a big success locally, very fast compared to more traditional designs, and several local people built their own boats off the same
    plans... with just a 27 hp outboard, it planed well and was quite the boat for the time....

    I just started a fiberglass kayak restoration and found your channel. Thanks so much for your vids. Interesting that I found out about the chisel thing just before I saw this. It was the only thing that worked to remove the improvised Bondo keel patchwork on my project.

    I have this exact boat but in better shape.mines yellow n white and the windshields still prolly 75% very usable.A guy had it using it for a trash trailer lol it had a full back ho bucket of dirt ,broken glass,n metal in it when i got it,,we washed it all out clean then we cut the floor out,it was jacked,,but the stringers are perfect, were starting on the floor soon then gonna do it in yellow with some woodgrain in the fin area and on the front flat part.we socored a mint 50s 60hp outboard for it too!!..Hope to have it on Lake Cumberland in the future..Ill upload a video of it on my channel soon..love the videos man .thanks

    Really enjoy all of your videos. I am a life long boater as well as tinker. Off topic question however, what video camera do you use as well as which video editor?. Keep up the great work. You are a perfectionist as am I.

    Hey dude I was wondering how feasible it is to foam a boat. I'm looking at getting an old cheap boat with good motors and injecting the sides and under the floor with foam if it's possible.

    Thaks for all the great videos. Love this little boat. I have one question for you...
    What's the best way to remove paint from fiberglass without softening or hurting the fiberglass. is the water base stripper or will it hurt the fiberglass? does ALL paint need to be removed prior to putting on gelcoat? Thanks. .

    *Andy, you should have made a mold of the top of this boat, you would be building retro boats today and getting rich!*

    This is a really helpful video! Why do you use chopped strand fiberglass and not fiberglass cloth? Thank you - really appreciate your work.

    • @boatworkstoday
      @boatworkstoday  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Matthew Mateo Mostly because it sands smooth for finishing and also holds a lot of resin for subsequent layers (helps to prevent dry lamination).. Hope this helps!

      Monica Petrov There may be a composite retailer in your area; best thing would be to do a quick google search, but if you don't pull anyone up I use expresscomposites.com
