You speak of crisis in the Catholic Church today and you have talked with vagueness about this cris but you have failed to name the the problems such as the homosexuality of half the bishops and the pedophilia of many of the clergy. If you feel there is a problem say it and expose it for everyone to see otherwise it will never be solved. Using the biblical event of Jesus calming the waters is not in my opinion defining today's problem in the church.

Consider the fire of Notre Dame. Beautiful irreplaceable artwork was lost. Yet Our Blessed Lord in the Most Holy Eucharist, the altar, the holy relics, and the stained glass gazed upon inspiring so many Saints and Doctors of the Church survived. And the church was in need of repair and failing to raise the recources for the cost. Since then, though there are problems, Notre Dame continues to have a course forewards where before only uncertainty was.
Remember the image of the Cross shining amidst the smoke and ashes.
God is still in control, the storm obeys Him and He knows what He is about. Trust Him.
Notre Dame burned. We do not want to know by whom. Now, it will be rebuilt the same externally and totally transformed internally, by the Progressive Elite. Is this not a perfect metaphor or am I missing something?
Sorry, but I have read that it will not be restored to its former glory. They are rebuilding it as a "cultural" center.
@@thomasjorge4734 It has not happened yet. God alone knows the future. Pray that it does not and trust that God is faithful to His people and hears our prayers. The Jewish people were in exile for 4 centuries but God still won out. We may not see the end, but God knows what He is about.
Our ways are not His ways nor our thoughts His thoughtss. All that opposed God is doomed to death and failure.

I've rarely heard such hubris. God never sleeps to us but is available to us whenever we ask with faith. The Roman church is NOT in the hand of the Lord; it is in the hand of humans, and has for many of the past 2000 years been about as far from God as you can get. God is not "making the church go through" anything; wicked and proud men and women, who are NOT doing God's will, are those who are making the church go through things. Keep God's commandment to love Him and one another, and stop collecting material wealth, and the church will perhaps start doing God's will once more.
In this clip, Scott Hahn demonstrates how NOT to interview a guest. The first rule of interviewing is to ask your question concisely, then shut up and let your guest talk. Yet here, Fr. Murray gets less than 40% of the air time; Mr. Hahn takes up the rest with his wordy questions and self-indulgent commentary.
Scott, you did not give Father a chance to talk about his book. You totally dominated what was supposed to be a conversation. B

When it comes to works of charity... It's not about just giving your 20 dollars to a mission or food shelf, but rather also looking for the needs around you and meeting the ones you can. We as a people have been failing in this area. Amassing things for ourselves rather than helping those with real needs. Even asking at your church if anyone is out of work and struggling and maybe helping them to find work or giving them yard work or buying them food or paying a utility bill to help them get through. That's how it was in the first century church, that's how it should be now.

Whose not admitting that? In fact ALL who volunteer in the Church are required to take a Saftey class before volunteering. The Safety Class goes into the crises in the church. In fact when this crises came out and all was said and done statistically the amount of abuse in the Church was about 1%. Also found was the Church had no more abuse than school teachers, coaches, camps ECT. Also every Diosease here in USA has a button on their website to report any child abuse through the Church.

@@scoops2382 not only, also about Catholic bishops etc who covered those scandals. In Poland ten percent of bishops has been already punished for covering scandals Another 10% is consider to be punished. They knew but decided to cover that which makes them criminals.

We have to be aware also of the watering-down in the teaching of the Faith which really took off following the end of the Second Vatican Council. We also have to take into account less formal forms of worship as we see in the "New Mass" which distorts the relationship between God and us.

Church of Christ has a magisterium that can not be changed

Golly, Dr. Hahn. Thank you. I can relate to your sense of your Germanic background and your temperament. Many of us, who had a more ethnic upbringing, have been canceled by our children, who have been programmed by the culture to simply dismiss anyone who expresses themselves passionately. We are losing our sense of righteous passion and the attending work and accomplishment ethic. Sad and frightening. It is killing our country. The drive the immigrants brought over here built this country. I realize the elite have done their best to kill us off by war, abortion and pestilence, but some remnant of us are still here. We, I say we, as a society, have told God we don't Him. Is it any surprise He has left us to our own devices? Of course, my views don't apply to everyone, but as a long-time sinner who has only recently returned to the Church after a very long absence I have learned this much, He is here and waiting for us to wise up. God wants us to come home. He's left the light on. The enemy is out there as well though, but he is a much more demanding master from whom you receive nothing no matter how much you give him. It took me a long time to realize that simple truth. And I deeply regret it.

Church leadership is in a mess to tell people to stay faithful to God and push bad leadership aside. What Scott says about Germany may be the overarching effect of a sorely tempted churchman in the figure of Luther which led to great hatred for the mother church. I feel it always comes back to the church more so than other powerful figures in world history. There is a good documentary on Martin Luther on Rick Steves europe channel.

I watched the documentary based on your recommendation. Had high hopes. I was born in Germany, a protestant minister, a massive fan of Luther and devoted to protestant reformation teachings.
I became Catholic. Confirmed Dec 22, 2020.
Luther is a heretic. Is guilty of playing a role in causing so much strife and horror in the last 500 years.

I sense this is about Father's book not all Scott's ideas . He dominants the conversation and it should be the opposite. No mean intent meant here but Scott you are too dominant in this conversation. I know dialogue is natural but I wanted to hear his thoughts in more detail. God bless both of you gentlemen. Great minds.
Stephen I don't agree with you. Dr. Hahn and Fr. Murray did a great job. I know you wanted to hear Fr. Murray talk about his book but Dr. Hahn talk about some excellent points that made the conversation more interesting. I love both of them. They are incredible true sons of the Church.
@@Winston-op5de Winston I hope I was not misunderstood. Dr. Hahn is a great theologian and evangelist of our modern times. It is just my personal taste that when interviewing a person about ones book one questions,probes and explores the authors ideas, thoughts meaning about their subject more than spending the majority of time on ones own ideas. Yes dialogue is desired in such a setting. Each can react to the other which as you says keeps a conversation interesting. However personally I think in this interview format the emphasis is not as focused on the guests thoughts. Everybody has a bad day or Hahn is just so filled with joy and ideas about our religion it just overflowed a bit more than I thought in order to show case the author. There is no condemnation here- both are great authors. So I hope I did not offend your sensibilities about these two men. My comment only had to do with the interviewing style or approach in this particular instance. Hope that makes sense. God Bless you Winston.
We are better off now than we were 50 years ago, when this stuff was in secret and the abuse and corruption cases didn't see the light of day.
God is allowing it because we became lukewarm and have turned away. He is molding us like a precious metal, to ultimately being us back to Himself.
That s a great point you made I thought the same thing we are more aware of the heresy and corruption it was always there now it is exposed
in the last 50 years thanks to Vatican II and Paul VI MILLIONS deserted the Church, conversions to the Church went from a flood to a trickle and 75% of western Catholics don't believe in the Real Presence, oh and our Supreme Pontiff watches pagan idols being worshipped in the Vatican gardens
We need reverence and tradition in the liturgy. We can continue to ignore that fact/reality if we like. People leave because they don’t believe in the real presence. It’s that simple.

This is hard. I am just recently returned to Church after many years away. This is definitely a challenge to remember the God knows and sees all and is ultimately in charge. I will NOT loose faith.

Brilliant interview. The loss of fathers at every level of society is underlying the present calamity. In homes, in
churches, in every narrative which demeans
the role of men and fathers. We are ALL accountable for our actions, but the lack of fathers as stable role models is disastrous.

God allows Man to exercise his Free Will, and the Church is run by men. It's that simple. God will raise up good men to right the ship in God's Time. In the meantime it really hurts to witness those in positions of power and authority burn and defile our Blessed Church.
Your 'blessed' church PL and the Church of the living God are 2 VERY different bodies.
Perhaps the crisis is like other past crises, which will inform a better understanding of what "being Church" means. We would get a better, more fundamental self understanding, and so come closer to God.

@Tom Price The day of Jesus' Passion and Crucifixion for the forgiveness of sins of men and women. On Easter Sunday Jesus rose from the dead and spent 40 more days o, earth preparing His Apostles and disciples to spread the Gospel and lead and build His Holy Church on earth.
Many will offer reparation and repentance to receive this gift of Jesus to the Father for us. They can go to Heaven for an eternity of Peace Joy and Love with God.The Father Son and Holy Spirit and all the angels and saints. Hopefully including you.

Considering Abp Lefebvre warned us about the crisis and took action to fight it over 50 years ago, perhaps we should be giving him and the SSPX a little more credit in being ahead of the curve?
When they give the society grief, pushback hard that they fought for the faith in the courts and in public without shame or hesitation. In the Los Angles archdiocese, there were some TLM and Eastern rites open and serving the faithful, gomez was AWOL , but still demanding money.

That he coddles and encourages the excreta roger mahoney , and jimmy martin at the LA REC ( Los Angeles Religious Education Conference) among other venues , their presentations and their very presence make decent people turn away in fury and disgust , the insults to traditional Catholic teaching is an outrage that gomez accepts. Are you aware of the " assessments" he imposed in 2020 , could this be because of the state easing of the statute of limitations on child abuse i.e. a mahony tax ?!. During the pandemic what did gomez do to rally the faithful ? did he allow adoration or do anything to be the good shepherd he was called to be ? , he did not , asking for money , oh yes , he kept that up . He more then deserves the opprobrium and more for his failures as a man and priest , he is a shame to this archdiocese, and the church.

The real problem is not having confidence in God. We’ve gone through stormy weather before, particularly with bad Popes. What make this seem worse is the whole world is upside down. It reminds me of the days of Noah. We can’t see the whole picture, but Our Lord knows what He’s doing. Some of this is probably chastisement for immoral behavior, and particularly abortion. Pray,hope, and don’t worry.

We each have to choose our path. Everyone must be aware that the majority of people from every background are exposed to temptation. Therefore many if not most can be and are corrupted. There are many who have genuine integrity but others have clearly sold out and do not represent the faith. The faith is greater than any individual. Charlatans need to be removed from the hierarchy. However, the faith will survive whatever attempt they make to undermine it.
I worry about the Catholic Church in America, it seems as if it has politicised itself. I find it very hard to watch you tube videos from the States now, whereas before there used to be great evangelisation, but not any more.

@@christineOfs the Traditional Latin Mass isn’t the Mass of Ages. It wouldn’t have even been that recognizable to the Apostles. The Mass has always had different forms in the history of the Church, look at the other liturgical rites for example.
Bugnini’s liturgical reform didn’t take place at V2. It took place after. He didn’t disobey the Pope, because it was ultimately up to the Pope to approve the new Order of the Mass, which he did. The Pope is the Bishop of Rome first and foremost. He has authority over the Roman Mass, so long as he’s not removing what is essential to the Mass as instituted by Christ. The new Order of the Mass doesn’t do that. So it can’t be schismatic or heretical.
V2 isn’t the reason for the empty pews. There are other cultural factors that contributed to that too. It was a historical process that had already started before V2.
The true worship of God includes human fraternity. Otherwise St. Paul would never have said that the entire law is fulfilled when you love your neighbour as yourself (Galatians 5:14). If the true worship of God was just about the order of the Mass over and above human fraternity, then Christ would never have said “I desire mercy and not sacrifice” (Matthew 12:7). We worship God truly when we love God and our neighbour. This is why Traditionalism reduces to the error of the Pharisees.
I tuned in to hear Father talk about his new book. Maybe he will get that chance next time.

I think that's unfair. Scott Hahn is a man worth listening to always. I've learned so much about scripture from him. He has an amazing grasp on what is happening in the Church atm.
Having said that, I would like to have heard more from Fr Gerard. He has a passionate love for the Church and for Truth

Why is Dr. Hahn, just like all priests not reaching out to billions of non-catholics if they all preach like there is no salvation outside the Catholic church because they don't have access to receiving holy communion and they do not know how to pray the rosary. Don't they care about them?
Ernesto - It is more complicated than that. We all have to pray for the conversion of all people outside the Catholic Church. That is a job that only our Lord can do. Or he may give that task to his Holy Mother, the Virgin Mary. Ecumenism has not worked and unless our Lord decides to use it Himself, it'll never work.
We can't negotiate with "Christian religious sects". Many in our Church think that it is possible but we can't water down our faith to get them to come back. They have to be willing to accept the TRUTH of the Christian Faith that the Church has been preaching for 2,000 +years. Only then will we have a unified Catholic Church as it was before Fr. Martin Luther started his rebellion against the Church of Christ.

This is rather just a wild guess. But I think that we have an increased population of inbreeders from all over the world who are terrified of their blood becoming mixed with the blood of other ethnic and family and community groups and religious groups. Inbreeding is quite a serious problem only because it deprives people of empathy for and sympathy, and sometimes leads to holocaust.
And so by this method, through the morally weak husband, the nasty whore acquires power. The whore begins to run things.
I would say that this scenario is as good as any when looking for causes of evil competition and rivalry between the homley wife and mother, the church woman, the praying woman, the virtuous , and faithful wife, and her rival the nasty, filthy Red Light District whores.
If this is not evil enough, it will do until the real thing comes along.
And if they can't find a Red Light District in their own home town, they will go down to Mexico where women are cheap, easy and plentiful, and encouraged to earn money for the support of the family. Brothers, uncles and father's are not unsympathetic toward such economic arrangements.

cloudsabove - Our Church has besides the Roman rite about 23 different rites from the Easter Orthodox Churches. We however can have a fruitful dialog with the Easter Orthodox Churches. We have been in dialog with them and it may lead to the unity we had for the fist 1,000 years of Christianity. Their sacraments are as valid as ours, but unfortunately, politically, we are separated. Let us pray to Our Lord for the prompt unification of the Church of Christ.

Only God knows how it all ends. Like watching a playback of a game on TV. You know the score so nothing the players you're watching can change the result. Their efforts contribute to the result because they don't know the outcome but the final score remains. The Bible tells us that at the end only love of God and rejection of God by people will exist. How we get to such an eventuality only God knows but it must play out somehow. We must stay close to Jesus and Mary so we make the right choices.
I don't like the following hypothesis any more than the next guy, but it's one that has to be considered. The crisis in the Catholic Church is happening because American Catholics lost their way. We've assimilated to the point where we're nigh indistinguishable from our Protestant counterparts. Sure, that can't be accurately said of all American Catholics, but it still affects each and every one of us in the end.
The Lord teaches us through every challenge and every suffering. Suffering is currency that releases Grace. We must suffer so we will grow and so we can help release grace in our broken world.
I love listening to these wonderful talks from two so theological men.
