    The weather here in West Virginia has wild too. I will thanks to your videos and an Escape to the country shows never complain about the wind on my favorite river again. The Elk River is known for being windy but can’t hold a candle to Scotland. Keep posting. Lunch at work is better when I can watch these.

    Many Thanks for your words and that gorgeous wild brown trout - what a Beauty. I am watching from Bend Oregon where I too love the wild places here and the trout that reside in them. Edmund Wadeson.

      @@stuartjones7903 Hi Stuart, I am from Croft in Leicestershire and now live in Bend Oregon where we have year round fly fishing and beautiful waters everywhere. I know the Welches fly shop from my 7 years living in Portland. I don't get there much any more after moving to Bend 17 years ago. This year has been fabulous for trout here in Oregon with fish up to 24" falling to my rod and flies. Cannot complain at all.. Best Wishes to you..Edmund Wadeson.

      Our local fishing is not world class, but we are lucky to have it! I've never fished in the US, but a nice trip to Montana would be fine if we ever escape from this virus. Maybe one day! 😊

      Thanks Philip. I have to admit I kinda fluked that fish leaving the flies in the water as I moved forward to try to cover another I saw rise - but hell I'm counting it. I tried the same tactic again a few times but with no luck. 😂

    Gotta love spring, ey?

      The weather is nuts. My local river was over its banks 2 days ago and the loch that feeds it is still at least 2 feet above normal and muddy. This is November weather at it's most fierce.

    Loved this vid, I think the bad weather enhances the "Highland experience"! I ought to do more of this kind of fishing, come up to Scotland a fair bit. I just tend to have a couple of hours on my local stream, 5 mins walk from home, it's just too convenient! Getting a bit lazy with my you tube fishing vids. Have to get my finger out. A club I was in used have an upland reservoir, very scenic, full of wild, hardcase little brownies, but the bloody stupid members wanted bigger fish so they filled it with rainbows! I left soon after, but walk up there now and again.
    I'm subscribing and watching a few more of these 😊

    • @wildfisher

    Have you not heard that you should wet your hands before handling a fish you’re going to return. If fishing barbless with a trout hooked like that you can run your hand down the leader, grab the fly and shake it off without touching the fish.
    Lovely spot and lovely wild brownie.

    • @wildfisher

    • @wildfisher
      @wildfisher  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      These huge lochs can be a bit daunting. I just look for features and try to divide them up into small areas. A bay, a rock, a fallen tree or log, a weed bed etc and fish around those.

    • @wildfisher

      A #5 weight 9 mid flex foot rod is a good compromise for river, small stream and loch. Take a look at Maxcatch lines and reels on Amazon these won't break the bank. Shakespeare rods are good value for money. I'd avoid very stiff rods.

    • @Followthepath89
      @Followthepath89 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s mostly small lochs or reservoirs round here that I’m likely to fish I used to use a orvis back in the day but that was 20 years ago I’ve forgotten how to even attach a leader lol 😝 I’ll get there eventually just at the looking stage really used to tie my own flys when I was a kid so would like to get back into it are the Amazon packages any good or I’m I better going to Glasgow to get setup

    What's your favorite fly rod and line weight Fred ?...your Sage ZXL and a 4 weight floater?

    • @wildfisher
      @wildfisher  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The #4 weight Sage ZXL for most of my river fishing Trevor, sometimes use a #4 weight Sage Z Axis on bigger rivers or lochs as it has a bit more power. I also use a Scott S4 #5 weight quite a bit too, mainly on lochs.

    Just curious, what are the fishing regulations for a non resident in Scotland? A. Yank like myself traveling and fishing?

    • @wildfisher
      @wildfisher  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There are no state fishing licenses all you need is permission from the club or owner. Just ask locally or do a search online for the water you want to fish. The vast majority are available. This is worth having although it's a little out of date. www.amazon.co.uk/Rivers-Lochs-Scotland-2013-2014-ebook/dp/B00D86XBWC/ref=sr_1_1?crid=35DBIPQYWVQ77&keywords=rivers+and+lochs+of+scotland&qid=1647633189&sprefix=rivers+and+%2Caps%2C144&sr=8-1 👍
