Superb video again sir nothing better than waiding along shore line and picking up those lovely wee brownies the match catch gold lines are good had one for last year and not a problem with it also have one of the barrio lines that's a good line aswell
Thanks Neil, most kind. Yeah the Maxcatch lines are good although I do wonder about buying them. Seem to be direct copies of the Rio Gold. Mike's lines are very good and are an honest buy.
@@wildfisher ye have heard that about match catch line but at the price and what rio lines are priced at for people on a budget its a no contest the big brand names charge far to much money
I use floating and intermediate Talon lines, with a spool of backing and 2 braided loops for £10. I have floaters from Maxcatch £12 and Aventik which are made by Maxcatch and is a lovely line, £14. They are probably copies, but I vote with my wallet, they might want to look at the price they sell at, they will eventually price themselves out of the market. We have been using tackle made in Asia since the second world war and most of the high end stuff is being made there these days including Hardy.
Hi Fred, lovely scenery and nice video , I use Maxcatch line for around £11 and can't fault it but I see the difference between that and big name brands for everything as just being a lot of money wasted because most of the rods, reels, lines etc come from the same factories with different labels and packaging.

Some nice fish on an unforgiving day! The direction of travel for prices on all fishing gear (and everything else) is upwards but some of the bigger brands are milking the situation...
I bring a couple of tungsten embedded leaders with me which in effect gives me a sinking tip on my floating line…just add a tippet of your choice..a nice option to have with you if you want to get deeper…much nicer to cast than a full sinking line! Tight lines!
Always used airflo lines but they’re getting pricey since they were taken over by an American outfit, got my first Rio gold last year but hated it, tried a Sunray comp spec last season in uist great in a wind but was expensive, I see maxcatch do a wind cutter which is a sunray copy I reckon , anyway love to follow you on the big loch and the lunan , bound to bump into you at some point, the hut was obliterated in the storm btw.

You are entitled to complaint I agree fishing lines are far too expensive we should all have a T-shirt made that says ridiculous prices of fly lines then they may reduce the price: pigs may fly love your Channel
My wife says ' you getting another fly rod ?...how many more do you need ?...I fondly reply, just the one my dear :) ...thanks for another great video Fred
Good fishing, plenty of action! On rods especially in UK, the Thomas & Thomas used rods are usually fantastic value, great rods, as good as Sage and such, but not as fashionable. The Light Presentation or Paradigm series are ace dry fly rods and as good as Sage original LL. On fly lines I agree 100% they are a rip off for the posh brands. I go for Cortland Sylk and pay £55 that is as far as I will go ! And I am a Yorkshireman, the race known for our generosity!
Maybe you have more sense than money, some people have more money than sense. I loved my Cortland Classic 444 floater, but these days I spend less than 20 quid on my lines, they are good lines maybe not as slick as the 444. I might go mad at Xmas and get a 444.
@@kingfisherphil Yes they do the business all right, I just pull the line thro a clean damp cloth then a dry cloth then dress it with Gink, works for me. Tight lines.
Great video. Rio gold's certainly not worth the money for sure. They're nothing special either. The Rio mainstream isn't bad value though. The old Cortland 444 peach is still a great line with which you can't go far wrong.

All the British flyline manufacturers have gone out of buisness due to covid?? 😂😂😂
I very much doubt COVID was the reason they went out of business.
