- Captain Jonathan R. Davis was an American gold rush miner. On December 19, 1854, he killed eleven armed outlaws at Rocky Canyon near Sacramento, California, using two Colt revolvers and a Bowie knife. This fight became one of the deadliest small arms engagements in American history involving one man against multiple foes.
You won't believe how one man could defend himself as he did.
Our second video is about the respect General Miles held for his former native enemies in the Indian wars. The General was one of the native Americans greatest advocates after the wars.
Our third episode is of a few newspaper articles about episodes of violence in the old west.
Our fourth story is about the famous pistoleer John Wesley Hardin, please sit back and enjoy this episode of wildwestfaces.
Miner celebrity 😂
Read your comment before watching now i cant unhear this
The first story, about Davis, it never ceases to amaze! Truly a cool brave and skilled fighter. I say Bravo!👍✌️
“…he became a minor celebrity.” WTH? This fight should be known far and wide, even today! He should be ranked up there with the likes of Wild Bill and Wyatt.
The first story, at the American River, I remember that from my CA History class in high screwall. I forgotten the details by now though - thanks a bunch for bringing this memory back to me.
Thank you 👍
This was a very good video!!! Great topics and events, as you always have!!!
Wow, to call Captain J.R. Davis, a "minor celebrity," after the battle he put up that day, is quite the understatement!!!
What an incredible demonstration of the will to survive, coupled with some superior skills in guns and knives, and fencing sure went a long way on this day!!!
He had some amazing luck and all of his guardian angels hard at work that day to!!!
General Miles sounds like a very wise man! Also a man with a heart and a great sense of decency and integrity about the treatment, or more aptly, the governments mistreatment of the native tribes!!!
Well said ! Thank you for sharing your thoughts 👍 all the best
You mean he was a MINER celebrity! 🤠🤠
Had the same thought…we must be alike
Amazing we're still here to tell the story.
General Miles seems to be an honourable man and showed respect for his former enemies
That's one tough hombre!!
You said it 👍 cheers
@@wildwestfaces Thanks! I come from a family of lawmen dating back to 1882. Personally, I've managed to walk away from three gunfights in my career. But this man is gigantic in my opinion! He was THE MAN on armed conflicts! Untouchable in a fight!
I am so thankful that you took the time and initiative to post this. 🫡
@anangryranger He really was!!! A rare thing to survive such odds! With so many shots piercing his hat and clothes...amazing he wasn't hit!!! I bet whoever survived on the bad guys side didn't do much bragging after he cleaned them out!!!
Just being in, and surviving 3 gunfights of your own seems more wild and wooly in outs own right!! Especially since you're stuck in a reactive state usually, putting you at a disadvantage from the start.
@@donc9751 Yup, I took a round in my first gunfight that damaged my pancreas. As a result, I'm a type 2 diapers individual. It comes with the job I guess.
@anangryranger Ouch!!! Damn! That must have had an effect for your later battles! I've had some serious injuries, but thank God I haven't been shot! Cheers to your survival!!!
You will go beyond yourself when being pushed or about to be harmed. Adrenaline kicks in.
Yes Adrenalin is a hell of a drug ! Cheers 👍
Davis was one bad a**s, a great story!
Might have to look up John Wesley Hardin did not know that about the prison riot.
If only the government had of listened to general miles!! The lives that could have been saved on both sides! 🤯
Well said, cheers
Ya do awesome history yarns. Will definitely be following ya mate.
Davis killed 7 bandits with his pistols, and wounded one with his Bowie knife, who later died. That is 8, did I miss something? Maybe I was supposed to assume he killed 4 with the Bowie knife? Not sure if I missed it, or misunderstood. Love your channel.
Maths is not my best subject ! Cheers 👍
Just like TV we must be in rerun season.
Yes, this one is a little different to the old one, the old one broke too many rules, cheers
@@wildwestfaces That's why I'm waiting for your DVD to come out. The uncensored version, tired of the gatekeepers who get offended by the truth.
👍
Gen Miles neglects to mention that this honor system only applied within a tribe. Natives regulally stole from or killed those from other tribes. Neither property nor person of one tribe was safe from another tribe.
That is very true ! Cheers 👍
and white men regularly stole their land👍
The Indians were treated wrong and were right to fight back. That Davis fellow was a bad dude!
FAFO!
Very true ! Cheers
AI voices suck !
A miner celebrity, very funny.....
