nordics are an example of the old yugioh anime to OCG/TCG archetypes, where konami is soo scared of the cards thinking they will end up being too good so they nerf the hell out of them and the end result is pure garbage... some example is the nordic gods were all "divine-type" and had generic summon requirement, and didnt need to banish a tuner to bring themselves back if they got destroyed, thor even could steal opponent's monster effects, which could have some gimmicky fun situations if it had that in real life. other example is some other monsters like Valkyrie where in the anime you didnt need to control no cards to use her effect, im really glad nowdays konami finally learned its lession and usually BUFFS anime cards when they come out unlike the opposite back then
Another thing like this that konami did is the they nerfed elemental hero Wisemans so that you need to send 2 specific high level monsters to special summon this card from your hand and all it could do was to deal damage to you opponent equal to the monster it and battles and it also heals you that much. In the anime it was a fusion monster that had the same effect but it had a floating effect to bring out elemental hero neos.

I always thought the Nordic Gods didn´t have the effects to warrant their high costs for summoning. 3000-4000ATk is nice and all, but how come Thor doesn´t just Raigeki-nuke the board like the thunder-god he is? How come Odin, the Allfather, can´t let you (even partly) see the cards of your opponent, either the set ones or some of his hand? How come Loki can´t do anything related to being a trickster, like shapeshifting into another monster or pulling a trap out of his ass?
A cool effect for Loki would be if it it’s effected by a opponents card effect you can pull a trap from your deck and activate it from your hand straight away.
what I want to know is why the art is ugly as fuck. Odin is passable but why does Thor have ugg boots and meaty oversized hands. I won't even mention Loki.
Also Loki should get a more spicy effect. One idea I had was that maybe once per turn you could choose one card in your hand and then your opponent has to guess type. If they are right you can return one card on the field to it's owner's deck and if they are wrong you can return one card in the graveyard to it's owner's deck. Then the card you picked is put back into the deck and you draw a new one. I think that fits him quite nicely in that you're making your opponent try to guess wrong and make sure they can never outwhith you as you always have a different card to check.
I play metaphys nordic. The deck is garbage, but if your opponent is a cuck and plays no handtraps, getting your -3 back from Gulvieg is pretty satisfying.
I think the reason using all 3 is bad is because in 5Ds. Each member of Team Ragnarok was using 1, not all 3. So they had 3 different decks built around their gods.

Each member built their deck around 1 Norse God and because it was a special 3v3 if one lost, their God remained on the field for the next member, then he whipped out his God, so the last one with Odin got to start with Thor and Loki already out. It was a pretty badass chunk of episodes.

I'm honestly really sad out how bad Nordics turned out to be. Norse mythology is my second favorite myth behind the Greco-Roman one, and adapting it into a series of cards sounds like a fantastic idea. Honestly, if they gave the three Aesir retrains with superior effects as well as easier ways summons them out, this archetype could have been pretty good. I'll probably just use it in Duel Links.
I also like Norse mythology. I wouldn‘t even use them in Duel Links. Their consistency is so bad, that you pretty much always lose if your plan is to focus on the synchroes. They may be a good option for lower level synchroes but there are better ways to go about those.
They should introduce lvl 12 versions of each of the gods and a new level 2 tuner for each, with very powerful regular effects but devestating effects if summoned using the original god as material
I made a decent Nordic deck with the new support. People kept stealing Odin with borreload/ run it over with borrelsword. Even if Nordics were viable, everybody has a generic link 4 monster to out your Odin.
Me too but I actually built it for 100$ in real life and it gets easy wins against like Salads and some other Meta decks like Orcust thanks to handtraps and cards like Eater of Millions or Solemn Strike. Also if you are able to pull out Thor against Meta boards you actually destroy them even tho it's effect is slow. Sometimes I pull out Odin just to deal the big damage but I do the most with BLS - Envoy of the Beginning and cards like that. My only problem is when they just shuffle Odin into the Extra Deck but usually it's easy to bring it back or even go for a Borreload
@@DOESITMATTER7734 it doesn't really need a different engine. It's weird to say but with the new support Nordic are really fast. Like you can ideally bring up 2 Gods in 3 turns or even more if you can banish Alviss from the graveyard and use the revival effect banishing the tuner too. You end up 90% of the times with a God. Obviously to compete with Meta you need handtraps, I have 2 Ash, 2 Ghost Ogre and 2 Effect Veiler, to preserve the effect of the Link monster I use 3 Called by the Grave and cards like Forbidden Lance to protect my Gods during your opponent turn or to prevent an Impermanence on Gullveig, Forbidden Dress just for more protection and Forbidden Chalice as a secondary Effect Veiler that works in your turn too. The deck as many synergies with removal generic cards like Eater of Millions (you don't need all the extra deck) and BLS (you have a lot of Light and Dark monsters). I run 2 copies of Solemn Strike but you can put Judgment too. For the extra deck you can put the classic Knightmare Links but you'll just end up banishing them every game for Eater of Millions and they are expensive as hell so just bring 2 copies of the Gods and some random extra deck monsters you already have
One big benefit the Nordic Gods had in the anime was that they could revive themselves for free and it didn't matter what killed them. That change probably wouldn't do much for them in the tcg though. Odin also protected the whole field.
If they made them a buff to their effects, give Thor a negate your opponents monsters effect as a continuous effect, Loki the ability to negate any spell or trap at any time not just battle phase, and Odin be unaffected by cards effect. They be pretty fun gimmicks to use.
Nordic was my first deck in Dueling Network. Back then it was just a mashup of Ascended, Beasts and Alfar, but after I learned a bit more I reduced it it to only Ascended and Beasts. I loved the Tannjostr into Tsngrissnir into Guldfaxe combo
I'll never forget the day when I was playing at school and we were playing 4000 lifepoints because there wasn't enough time to play 8000. My friend summons his Odin straight away and I have no monsters on the field, but I have two traps. My friend attacks directly and I use your favourite card, magic cylinder, to win.
It's really sad how these were Divine/Divine Beast and had one of the most epic duels in 5Ds, with so many effects and support, and then they came out.
I don't know Dzeeff, they aren't meta, but the new link and effect monsters did made them playable and i duel at least one Nordic player every few days. Day 199 of waiting for new Volcanic support to arrive
I'd just like to point out real quick that Odin existed alongside ignition priority in the TCG. It did not actually lose to on-summon Traps (besides counter traps obviously) at the time it was relevant.
Yeah you could activate the effect, but they would just chain their bottomless/torrential/compulse and their effect would then resolve before Orin’s protection resolved.

Blazrrr - Bad to mediocre effects, strange and clunky variable stats, not much presence on the field, very vulnerable to spell and traps during the standby and main phases, so little protection; versatility is non-existent.
I think that The NORDIC archetype needs a field spell that can give them bonus effects like Odin can use it effects in both players turn and the same for Thor and Loki give him protection of card effects and for the other effect for the field spell that can change any nordic monster in the graveyard to the tuner monster that help Odin and Thor and Loki and a draw card to help the deck be better

Alright so quick fixes to make these better: 1. Make Thor and Odin's effects quick effects. 2. Make Loki's effect negate any spell it trap during any phase, not just during the battle phase.

They need a field spell that searches, is a OPT SP Summon from hand, gives the aseir monsters protection from everything that isn’t a destruction effect, can let the aseirs use their effects as quick effects, and also lets them come back from the GY without having to banish anything
honistly these nordic cards get quite alot more disepointing if you know Norse Mythology like here are 2examples: Gleipnir the Fetters of Fenrir, based of norse mythology, should be like a Fiendish Chain on steroids, but instead it is a crapy searcher Thors ability to negate monster efects is not bad per say, but based of the Mythology he should have been like, the Borrelsword of 2011 if anything
I'm a big fan of the Nordic arcetype, more of the aesthetic and lure. I made a custom card that are basically the Aesir monster with better effect, like how Loki effect is basically once per turn negete for spell/trap and so on (note, I dont want to you to review them at all)
One thing to be aware of, was that player priority was still a thing until April 2012, so that might be a cause for their effects to not be quick effects.
Doug's note at 0:27 brings up a good point. Whether or not a set is "good" depends on how much you like it. It's very subjective. For example, a set could be considered "good" for introducing strong cards, but that same set could be considered "bad" by a player who found those same cards unfair.
I mean now that called by the grave is limited to 1, it's harder to negate their resurection effect, and it's very eady to summon them with gullvieg, making them untargetable by card effects.
I love playing my Nordic/Aesir Deck. It takes a lot of digging to find traps and spells that compliment it. But it's pretty good, if you put love into building your decks
You forget that Thor hangs out in the extra deck. You play him to counter your opponent's boss monsters that normally can't be dealt with, like Cocytus. Thor strips their protections and let's you wipe them with your effects or battle. In a stable meta like Duel Links, top decks gravitate towards summoning precisely the boss monsters countered by Thor. He is an invaluable and ideal extra deck monster. Also you aren't accounting for the excellent Aesir support cards, like Megingjord and Solemn Authority.
Say what you like about yugioh cards as an artist I'm in awe of how the artists have created 21799 cards each with some really clever designs, granted some of those where reprints but to come up with a design for so many cards is such an incredible feat of imagination. I guess this is one of the aspects of this game that made me engage with it years ago, sure the anime was the first thing that grabbed my attention but the artwork has inspired me as an artist.
Some art is amazing but there are some that are really hard to see what was drawn, even if those cards have good effects that makes the cards unappealing.
The concept of the entire archetype is broken beyond salvation. Unless there are some legacy support that would make the Aesirs worth while, I don't think giving them any more "ease of access" to the big bosses would even matter. I would suggest generic spells or traps that do something solid on their own, which also have extra effects from the GY / banished when an Aesir got summoned out. Quick example right out of my brain - A trap that sends a Nordic Tuner from your deck to the GY (as cost) to change an opponent's card effect it chains to into "Your opponent destroy 1 card they control", and you can set this card from the GY back to the field when an Aesir got special summoned. With this, you can have one solid negation while you control an Aesir, then pop your own Aesirs and fuel their revival during the end phase at the same time, get your sweet payoff from their revival effects, rinse and repeat.
Blake Huynh I hve an other good idea...they could release an equip spell that makes aesir monster effects as quick effects..now how to access it always is easy.. link up to Isolde..dump the equip spell..summon dverg..make gullveig..once dverg hits grave u can get back the equip spell then combo off to Thor or Odin ...and finally equip..this assures an easy interruption every time ✨
@@nibal55 Focusing on equip spells like Nordic Relics is nice too. Iirc, Draupnir is a good card if you can actively destroy it. Maybe a Nordic monster that can special summon itself from hand by destroying a face-up Nordic Relic you control would be insanely helpful.
I have made a Nordic Support card that, I think, will help out the Nordic deck, and I wanted your opinion on it. Here it is: Nordic Auroraesir Field Spell Synchro Monsters that require 2 or more Non-Tuner monsters (even if the Non-tuner monsters are specific Non-tuner monsters) are treated as being "Aesir" monsters while on the field or in the Extra Deck, but have the Summoning requirement of 1 "Nordic" Tuner + 2 or more Non-tuner monsters. If you would Synchro Summon an "Aesir" Monster from your Extra Deck: You can send 1 "Nordic" monster from your Deck to the GY as Material for the Synchro Summon. During the End Phase of your turn, if you control a "Nordic" or "Aesir" monster: You can add 1 of your banished cards to your hand. Each effect of "Nordic Auroraesir" can only be used once per turn.
I have a card I wonder if you could look at and give your opinion on it. Is packet swap a card that could be useful in going second strats. Maybe I am overvaluing the idea of the card but it seems to me that giving up something like lets say a jackrabbit for a potential link 2+ card from your opponent and place it where ever you want on your side of the field is pretty good. It also doesn't limit you in any other way. You can still use that link card you took to your advantage by activating its effects beyond just using it as materials. maybe its still just not good enough. Just want some thoughts.
I wish I would have played them at YCS Charlotte in 2011. I played a build at locals with 3 Skill Drain 3 Barbaros, tengu and horn of the phantom beast. It terrorized my plant synchro meta at locals
Loki can negate Evenly Matched lol that's a good modern use for it Also remember Chaos Sorc? If your deck can summon it just use it to make Beatrice or Nirito. Great modern use for it and gives you more of those sweet negates or more graveyard setup
Gullveig gives protection to an aesir monster it points to and it is really easy to bring oden out with literally any nordic monster. So for aggro decks with hand trap defense, nordic can be good.
One of the things I disliked about the anime to OCG/TCG transition is that Konami decided not to make the Nordic Gods part of the DIVINE archetype as they were in the anime , and expand on the mythology. Konami could have done something creative by having a theme with each pantheon of Divine-Beast monsters specialize in a certain card mechanic. The Egyptian Gods emphasize on monster destruction, the Nordic Gods focus on maintaining field control and the Wicked Gods focus on neutralizing opponents cards.
no shit: I‘ve been beaten by Jörmungardr burn. I consistently destroyed the Aesir synchroes but the opponent had 3 of that card and an E-con during the last try. I only lost because I was unlucky with my deck consistency.

One thing that definitely was looked over here, is that when these cards came out. Priority existed in the game, meaning when they came out Odin specifically did NOT lose to Bottomless/Compulsory etc. Obviously no longer a factor to consider, but definitely was part of the game when they were released.
It definitely still lost to Compulse. You'd just save the Compulse until after the window for priority has passed, and then when they use the effect you chain Compulse.
one thing I did enjoy is that the characters who used the Nordics were basically the main characters of a different yugioh anime with their own special magic glowing marks and everything
Literally still playing only nordics lol. All the way since they came out. Got all 3 of them in ultimate rare as well. The link monster def helps them spam the field with an aesir instantly. The rest of the deck is just there to protect them or buff them up. I think their biggest weakness is that most of their support cards are traps. Would have been much better as spells.
They either should’ve made a separate archetype for each Nordic monster or have them all work together. Because the fact that you need a separate type of tuner for each synchro limits it. It’s like putting 3 archetypes in one deck
I remember dumpstering a Nordic deck with a simple Reliquished Turbo deck a while ago. I remember the guy in front of me bring out Odin and going, "ha I cant be destroyed by spells/traps" as I suck up his monster. A sad, sad day.
My best opinion to fix this deck lies in the nordic monsters themselves. Have them with extra effect such as (quick effect) like the vendread archetypes except when used as synchro materials. Example, when this "nordic beast monster" is used as a synchro material to summon Thor lord of the Aesir, (quick effect) Thor can activate its abilities during either players turn. During your opponents turn Thor lord of the Aesir can target one monster your opponent controls negate that monster effect and use it as if it was its own. If Thor lord of the Aesir would be destroyed by battle or by card effects you can banish this nordic monster instead, you can only activate both these effects once per turn. This would be a great way to make Aesir competitive if they ever make a new nordic monsters support.
Fun fact the Nordic Gods has a link monster which can easily bring out a Nordic. When it's summoned banish up to 3 cards from your hand or field and banish that many Nordic monsters from your deck
The synchro need quick effect (perhaps a blanket immunity for Odin), and some stronger main deck lineups. Also, most of their support cards are traps (since it's 5d's, and normal spells don't exist there), so give them faster support.
I dont remember to well burn wasn't priority a mechanic back then? Couldn't you call priority with Odin back then when you summon him? I could be wrong but I think I remember people doing that.
I've always loved the six samurai deck, back then I loved how I could easily fill most of the field with cards in my first round, I still use it once in a while.
i always loved the idea of the nordic deck bc of the mythology its based on, and itd be alot more fun to play if they just gave them their anime effects. because even then, i dont think itd be good enough for high up tournament play
Its good in duel links Also you get watt,cardian,fortune lady, and also u get one of the best staple(the card that make a monster lose 800 attack and that monster get protection from any effect

played it yesterday in locals. came 4th. you run 15 nordics (to make the link 1). Then the rest of the deck consists of handtraps, negates and floodgates. Easiest deck to play
Hey, can you do a video on Black Horn of Heaven? Negating a special summon for no cost seems like a great card that can really halt some plays, but I rarely even hear about it. Why does no one play it?
It's a decent-ish card, but it only negates inherent special summons so it's not very versatile. Solemn Strike and Judgment are better in every situation, and the trap decks out right now want to play cards that are good going first or second, while Black Horn is only good going first
The only possible way I could see the Aesir being good is if they all had erratas to where their effects and summoning materials are exactly the same as they were in 5ds. Then they wouldn't be locked into their own archetype, and would have some pretty nice effects.
Barely anyone plays Amazoness and Fur Hire anymore, and nobody ever played Sylvans (as far as I know of). Electromagnet-warriors are currently one of the more powerful decks. Most of the rest plays Neos and/or Cyberdark and/or Desperado Dragon and/or Red-Eyes Fusion.
I suck at suggestions at making cards better, but here we go. For the nordic gods give them something that makes it so they can't be removed from the field except by destruction, make it so they can remove any nordic card to revive themselves and not just the ones limited to their archetype, and make odin's effect a quick effect. These suggestions are based on keeping the theme the cards already have but they would need a much bigger overhaul probably.
My friend taught me to play Yugioh back in April 2020. He would run Nordic/Aesir and could 8/10 times summon Odin first turn, usually with a combo starting with Gullveig. While I get that Odin isn't exactly super effect-heavy it's a pretty solid deck.
I thought Valkyrie of the Nordic Ascendent or w/e it's called was the "main" way they'd want players to go into Odin with that other card being more of a backup plan. But yeah, too much investment for too little payoff.
Priority as in Ignition Priority? yes. It only got nulled down during end of 5D early ZeXaL era around the same time as Tour Guide getting confirmation that Sangan Rank 3 into search that lasts like a week doesn't work

All of them should have effects like unaffected by anything and NUKE the enemies board once per turn , im serius thats how a GOD card should be .

I made a decent Nordic deck with the new support. People kept stealing Odin with borreload/ run it over with borrelsword. Even if Nordics were viable, everybody has a generic link 4 monster to out your Odin.
Me too but I actually built it for 100$ in real life and it gets easy wins against like Salads and some other Meta decks like Orcust thanks to handtraps and cards like Eater of Millions or Solemn Strike. Also if you are able to pull out Thor against Meta boards you actually destroy them even tho it's effect is slow. Sometimes I pull out Odin just to deal the big damage but I do the most with BLS - Envoy of the Beginning and cards like that. My only problem is when they just shuffle Odin into the Extra Deck but usually it's easy to bring it back or even go for a Borreload

@@DOESITMATTER7734 it doesn't really need a different engine. It's weird to say but with the new support Nordic are really fast. Like you can ideally bring up 2 Gods in 3 turns or even more if you can banish Alviss from the graveyard and use the revival effect banishing the tuner too. You end up 90% of the times with a God. Obviously to compete with Meta you need handtraps, I have 2 Ash, 2 Ghost Ogre and 2 Effect Veiler, to preserve the effect of the Link monster I use 3 Called by the Grave and cards like Forbidden Lance to protect my Gods during your opponent turn or to prevent an Impermanence on Gullveig, Forbidden Dress just for more protection and Forbidden Chalice as a secondary Effect Veiler that works in your turn too. The deck as many synergies with removal generic cards like Eater of Millions (you don't need all the extra deck) and BLS (you have a lot of Light and Dark monsters). I run 2 copies of Solemn Strike but you can put Judgment too. For the extra deck you can put the classic Knightmare Links but you'll just end up banishing them every game for Eater of Millions and they are expensive as hell so just bring 2 copies of the Gods and some random extra deck monsters you already have

One big benefit the Nordic Gods had in the anime was that they could revive themselves for free and it didn't matter what killed them. That change probably wouldn't do much for them in the tcg though. Odin also protected the whole field.

If they made them a buff to their effects, give Thor a negate your opponents monsters effect as a continuous effect, Loki the ability to negate any spell or trap at any time not just battle phase, and Odin be unaffected by cards effect. They be pretty fun gimmicks to use.
Nordic was my first deck in Dueling Network. Back then it was just a mashup of Ascended, Beasts and Alfar, but after I learned a bit more I reduced it it to only Ascended and Beasts.
I loved the Tannjostr into Tsngrissnir into Guldfaxe combo
I'll never forget the day when I was playing at school and we were playing 4000 lifepoints because there wasn't enough time to play 8000. My friend summons his Odin straight away and I have no monsters on the field, but I have two traps. My friend attacks directly and I use your favourite card, magic cylinder, to win.

I'd just like to point out real quick that Odin existed alongside ignition priority in the TCG. It did not actually lose to on-summon Traps (besides counter traps obviously) at the time it was relevant.
Yeah you could activate the effect, but they would just chain their bottomless/torrential/compulse and their effect would then resolve before Orin’s protection resolved.

Blazrrr - Bad to mediocre effects, strange and clunky variable stats, not much presence on the field, very vulnerable to spell and traps during the standby and main phases, so little protection; versatility is non-existent.

I think that The NORDIC archetype needs a field spell that can give them bonus effects like Odin can use it effects in both players turn and the same for Thor and Loki give him protection of card effects and for the other effect for the field spell that can change any nordic monster in the graveyard to the tuner monster that help Odin and Thor and Loki and a draw card to help the deck be better

Alright so quick fixes to make these better:
1. Make Thor and Odin's effects quick effects.
2. Make Loki's effect negate any spell it trap during any phase, not just during the battle phase.

They need a field spell that searches, is a OPT SP Summon from hand, gives the aseir monsters protection from everything that isn’t a destruction effect, can let the aseirs use their effects as quick effects, and also lets them come back from the GY without having to banish anything
honistly these nordic cards get quite alot more disepointing if you know Norse Mythology
like here are 2examples:
Gleipnir the Fetters of Fenrir, based of norse mythology, should be like a Fiendish Chain on steroids, but instead it is a crapy searcher
Thors ability to negate monster efects is not bad per say, but based of the Mythology he should have been like, the Borrelsword of 2011 if anything
I'm a big fan of the Nordic arcetype, more of the aesthetic and lure. I made a custom card that are basically the Aesir monster with better effect, like how Loki effect is basically once per turn negete for spell/trap and so on (note, I dont want to you to review them at all)
One thing to be aware of, was that player priority was still a thing until April 2012, so that might be a cause for their effects to not be quick effects.
Doug's note at 0:27 brings up a good point. Whether or not a set is "good" depends on how much you like it. It's very subjective.
For example, a set could be considered "good" for introducing strong cards, but that same set could be considered "bad" by a player who found those same cards unfair.

I love playing my Nordic/Aesir Deck. It takes a lot of digging to find traps and spells that compliment it. But it's pretty good, if you put love into building your decks

You forget that Thor hangs out in the extra deck. You play him to counter your opponent's boss monsters that normally can't be dealt with, like Cocytus. Thor strips their protections and let's you wipe them with your effects or battle. In a stable meta like Duel Links, top decks gravitate towards summoning precisely the boss monsters countered by Thor. He is an invaluable and ideal extra deck monster. Also you aren't accounting for the excellent Aesir support cards, like Megingjord and Solemn Authority.
Thats Duel Links. And Cocytus is the worst Invoked Fusion in the TCG btw.

Say what you like about yugioh cards as an artist I'm in awe of how the artists have created 21799 cards each with some really clever designs, granted some of those where reprints but to come up with a design for so many cards is such an incredible feat of imagination. I guess this is one of the aspects of this game that made me engage with it years ago, sure the anime was the first thing that grabbed my attention but the artwork has inspired me as an artist.
Some art is amazing but there are some that are really hard to see what was drawn, even if those cards have good effects that makes the cards unappealing.
I understand why people may not find them useful but I have an open mind so I’m always open to experiment
The concept of the entire archetype is broken beyond salvation. Unless there are some legacy support that would make the Aesirs worth while, I don't think giving them any more "ease of access" to the big bosses would even matter. I would suggest generic spells or traps that do something solid on their own, which also have extra effects from the GY / banished when an Aesir got summoned out.
Quick example right out of my brain - A trap that sends a Nordic Tuner from your deck to the GY (as cost) to change an opponent's card effect it chains to into "Your opponent destroy 1 card they control", and you can set this card from the GY back to the field when an Aesir got special summoned. With this, you can have one solid negation while you control an Aesir, then pop your own Aesirs and fuel their revival during the end phase at the same time, get your sweet payoff from their revival effects, rinse and repeat.
Blake Huynh I hve an other good idea...they could release an equip spell that makes aesir monster effects as quick effects..now how to access it always is easy.. link up to Isolde..dump the equip spell..summon dverg..make gullveig..once dverg hits grave u can get back the equip spell then combo off to Thor or Odin ...and finally equip..this assures an easy interruption every time ✨
@@nibal55 Focusing on equip spells like Nordic Relics is nice too. Iirc, Draupnir is a good card if you can actively destroy it. Maybe a Nordic monster that can special summon itself from hand by destroying a face-up Nordic Relic you control would be insanely helpful.

During the End Phase of your turn, if you control a "Nordic" or "Aesir" monster: You can add 1 of your banished cards to your hand. Each effect of "Nordic Auroraesir" can only be used once per turn.
I have a card I wonder if you could look at and give your opinion on it. Is packet swap a card that could be useful in going second strats. Maybe I am overvaluing the idea of the card but it seems to me that giving up something like lets say a jackrabbit for a potential link 2+ card from your opponent and place it where ever you want on your side of the field is pretty good. It also doesn't limit you in any other way. You can still use that link card you took to your advantage by activating its effects beyond just using it as materials. maybe its still just not good enough. Just want some thoughts.
I wish I would have played them at YCS Charlotte in 2011. I played a build at locals with 3 Skill Drain 3 Barbaros, tengu and horn of the phantom beast. It terrorized my plant synchro meta at locals
Maybe these could've seen a bit of rogue play if they were generic, but that alone kills them, to say nothing of their other problems.

Also remember Chaos Sorc? If your deck can summon it just use it to make Beatrice or Nirito. Great modern use for it and gives you more of those sweet negates or more graveyard setup

Gullveig gives protection to an aesir monster it points to and it is really easy to bring oden out with literally any nordic monster. So for aggro decks with hand trap defense, nordic can be good.
One of the things I disliked about the anime to OCG/TCG transition is that Konami decided not to make the Nordic Gods part of the DIVINE archetype as they were in the anime , and expand on the mythology. Konami could have done something creative by having a theme with each pantheon of Divine-Beast monsters specialize in a certain card mechanic. The Egyptian Gods emphasize on monster destruction, the Nordic Gods focus on maintaining field control and the Wicked Gods focus on neutralizing opponents cards.
How bad were they? Well they are in duel links so that should say something

no shit: I‘ve been beaten by Jörmungardr burn. I consistently destroyed the Aesir synchroes but the opponent had 3 of that card and an E-con during the last try. I only lost because I was unlucky with my deck consistency.

I was playing Loki only because of Mara just to test how does it work(It was Duel Links)
One thing that definitely was looked over here, is that when these cards came out. Priority existed in the game, meaning when they came out Odin specifically did NOT lose to Bottomless/Compulsory etc. Obviously no longer a factor to consider, but definitely was part of the game when they were released.
It definitely still lost to Compulse. You'd just save the Compulse until after the window for priority has passed, and then when they use the effect you chain Compulse.
I played the Nordic gods, and have a Nordic deck. Although I mostly use it for playing around with. Not serious Yugioh.
one thing I did enjoy is that the characters who used the Nordics were basically the main characters of a different yugioh anime with their own special magic glowing marks and everything
Literally still playing only nordics lol. All the way since they came out. Got all 3 of them in ultimate rare as well. The link monster def helps them spam the field with an aesir instantly. The rest of the deck is just there to protect them or buff them up.
I think their biggest weakness is that most of their support cards are traps. Would have been much better as spells.

Imagine my surprise when I keep facing Odin decks in Duel Links. And beat them with the 2 Amazoness Swordswoman in my Red-Eyes Deck.
They either should’ve made a separate archetype for each Nordic monster or have them all work together. Because the fact that you need a separate type of tuner for each synchro limits it. It’s like putting 3 archetypes in one deck

I remember dumpstering a Nordic deck with a simple Reliquished Turbo deck a while ago. I remember the guy in front of me bring out Odin and going, "ha I cant be destroyed by spells/traps" as I suck up his monster. A sad, sad day.
My best opinion to fix this deck lies in the nordic monsters themselves. Have them with extra effect such as (quick effect) like the vendread archetypes except when used as synchro materials. Example, when this "nordic beast monster" is used as a synchro material to summon Thor lord of the Aesir, (quick effect) Thor can activate its abilities during either players turn. During your opponents turn Thor lord of the Aesir can target one monster your opponent controls negate that monster effect and use it as if it was its own. If Thor lord of the Aesir would be destroyed by battle or by card effects you can banish this nordic monster instead, you can only activate both these effects once per turn. This would be a great way to make Aesir competitive if they ever make a new nordic monsters support.

But won’t a monster effect that can steal attack so you can put them at zero and basically can scow the person over if the had Thor Odin and Loki

The synchro need quick effect (perhaps a blanket immunity for Odin), and some stronger main deck lineups.
Also, most of their support cards are traps (since it's 5d's, and normal spells don't exist there), so give them faster support.
I dont remember to well burn wasn't priority a mechanic back then? Couldn't you call priority with Odin back then when you summon him? I could be wrong but I think I remember people doing that.
I've always loved the six samurai deck, back then I loved how I could easily fill most of the field with cards in my first round, I still use it once in a while.
i always loved the idea of the nordic deck bc of the mythology its based on, and itd be alot more fun to play if they just gave them their anime effects. because even then, i dont think itd be good enough for high up tournament play

Once per turn means you can use the effect once on each turn. If it's a quick effect, you can use it during the opponents turn
Hi Dzeeff. Just had a few suggestions for the next 'Why Nobody Plays' series:
1. Yubel (including Terror incarnate and Ultimate Nightmare)
2. Cyber End Dragon
3. Red-Eyes Black Dragon
Yubel: Easily removed and lame boss monster
Cyber: They look ugly
Red eyes: Blue eyes
Honestly, people now play red eyes. Sure, it's only for dragoon but that's still something
played it yesterday in locals. came 4th. you run 15 nordics (to make the link 1). Then the rest of the deck consists of handtraps, negates and floodgates. Easiest deck to play

My Nordic deck is with Isolde and PK, you make odin and a set fog blade Plus solems to protec him. Is a shame but You can make the play every turn.
Hey, can you do a video on Black Horn of Heaven? Negating a special summon for no cost seems like a great card that can really halt some plays, but I rarely even hear about it. Why does no one play it?
It's a decent-ish card, but it only negates inherent special summons so it's not very versatile. Solemn Strike and Judgment are better in every situation, and the trap decks out right now want to play cards that are good going first or second, while Black Horn is only good going first

I played locals with nordics with the plant engine. It won a few local tournaments but that was it. Something I build after nationals.
The only possible way I could see the Aesir being good is if they all had erratas to where their effects and summoning materials are exactly the same as they were in 5ds. Then they wouldn't be locked into their own archetype, and would have some pretty nice effects.
Nordics and Six Samurais are my favourite decks of all time to play for fun.

Barely anyone plays Amazoness and Fur Hire anymore, and nobody ever played Sylvans (as far as I know of).
Electromagnet-warriors are currently one of the more powerful decks. Most of the rest plays Neos and/or Cyberdark and/or Desperado Dragon and/or Red-Eyes Fusion.
I suck at suggestions at making cards better, but here we go.
For the nordic gods give them something that makes it so they can't be removed from the field except by destruction, make it so they can remove any nordic card to revive themselves and not just the ones limited to their archetype, and make odin's effect a quick effect.
These suggestions are based on keeping the theme the cards already have but they would need a much bigger overhaul probably.

My friend taught me to play Yugioh back in April 2020. He would run Nordic/Aesir and could 8/10 times summon Odin first turn, usually with a combo starting with Gullveig. While I get that Odin isn't exactly super effect-heavy it's a pretty solid deck.

I thought Valkyrie of the Nordic Ascendent or w/e it's called was the "main" way they'd want players to go into Odin with that other card being more of a backup plan.
But yeah, too much investment for too little payoff.
At the time of release, Guldfaxe was a fine card because Synchros were so prevalent, but nowadays it is just not worth running.

Priority as in Ignition Priority? yes. It only got nulled down during end of 5D early ZeXaL era around the same time as Tour Guide getting confirmation that Sangan Rank 3 into search that lasts like a week doesn't work
