Such a straightforward and clear presentation of stripping and checking the engine.
You can tell when experts are doing stuff like this, as they make it look easy

Wait a second- doesn’t the foot of the rocket have to sit slightly offset to the end of the valve to help slightly rotate while operating?

I love the show abs this is great , but I always wanted to be a mechanic but life never went that way . I would love a more comprehensive show like this dvd , down load . Taking me through a total rebuild , I think people really want it . I think people are ready for it ! I was hoping Edd would do this when he left wheeler dealers but has sadly not done anything ! Come on fuzz give us more , I am sure I am not the only guy out there that feels the same

not a sealing ring at the base of the barrel, it's a shim to achieve correct deck height & compression.

Much higher quality rods than a VW Beetle motor!👍🏻

What was the reason that the person brought this car in to your workshop: was is smokey exhaust or oil leak? Thanks for picking this particular engine for this demonstration. ❤

On a scale of 1-10, was that normal wear or servere lack of maintenance? My first car in High School (1974) was a 57 356-A Porsche with a Speedster transmission and a 356-B Super 90 motor. People need to realize air cooled engines are do not have coolant/radiator and are oil cooled. Oil is your lubricant and coolant. It's more important for the oil and filter to be attended to for these motors. On the plus siden no need to replace the radiator or deal with coolant., rust and overheating. My dad's 1967 VW Bug had 125,000 miles on it before he chose to have it overhauled, (he wanted it to be addressed before problems developed). Keep in mind the VW has no oil filter but just a screen. Also my dad used Union 76 oil, nothing fancy.

Did 356 engines have 4 main bearings on the main, uh crank on Porshes as opposed to VW engines who had 3 bearings on the main ?

I happen to have a set of 356 bearings nearby. It is a "four main bearing" engine however, it is really just a three. Three of them are on the journal ends and one clam shell bearing between connecting rod 2 and 3. In the video, they remove the bearing between 2 and 3. I have a complete Porsche 912 engine, basically identical to a 356 C on a stand in my garage. I look forward to tearing it apart.

The difference from the VW engine is that the Porsche case is 3 piece, not just two. The timing case on the pulley end has the fourth main bearing in it.

Sounds like this engine was making metal, it caught the rebuild in time.
