Thanks Arbor and James Kelly, not just for making an awesome video, but especially for including footage of how even the pros deal with stuff like wobbles...and fail. The sick footage is inspiration, but can be a damper when we face failure, so the fail footage gives us the strength to persevere. Thanks.
When ever someone has something to say about long boarding being for fruits with longhair who go up and down sidewalks for transportation. I show them this video to show them I thrive for something way more than to cruise the streets. I live for this sport and its completely infamous, it should be in he Olympics and taken to the next level. This sport is what I live for.
I watched this video years ago and suddenly today I remembered it. Just spent 2 fucking hours looking for it on TH-cam. Worth it, still better than 99% of nowadays downhill videos.
this guy is seriously ahead of his time. he may not win all races but no one blurrs the line between freeride and dh like him. yeah people skate as fast as him, but no one makes it look this chill and does it with so much style
I'm especially blown away by how he can suddenly make the board go sideways while at a high speed and drag the wheels without falling off. Imagine trying to do that for the very first time. How many times did he fall off before getting it right? Amazing!
You fall a lot before you learn to drift. That's why you start slow, and work your way up. I know that for me, it took a good week of skinned elbows and road rash to do them, and I'm not even doing standups, I'm doing glovedowns.
If you call it a drift you must not actually DH, I hear groms call it drifting and it makes my nuts flinch. Standies, sit down slides, glove toesides, please anything but "drift" these are not cars in Tokyo...
Just like Louis' 15 minute raw run in Switzerland, I think this is really going to be one of those videos that will shake downhill history. Seriously very few people with the talent and style that James has. And at such tremendous speeds. Also, Jack Boston, you my friend are a genius. This is by far the best cinematography we've seen in downhill skateboarding. And perfect music selection. Well done all. This video is legendary.
no need to explain why james is my favorite rider after this vid, and all his other arbor vids. My favorite vid before this was James Kelly Unbound , but now this is, holy crap calm down James XD
I went down tonight, slid 20 feet on my hands and pelvic region after losing the fight with speed wobbles. I'm still bleeding. This video is consolation and inspiration for me: there are bigger hills and nastier ways to fall. Thanks, James and Arbor.
This video has something magical; the music, photography, the ride itself... I don't know, maybe is just a combination of all of them but I had lots of emotions going on while watching this (something that not a lot of videos can). For a moment I felt like I was the one going down the road, and the music fits perfectly because it doesn't let you feel like "everything is going to be ok". English is not my mother language but I have tried to expres my feeling the best I could. One more time, amazing!
+TheTintinHerge "and the music fits perfectly because it doesn't let you feel like "everything is going to be ok". Haha, that is Swans (the band who plays the music, song is called Jim). This tension is always in their music. It's part of what makes it so great, and also fitting for a film like this.
i got a wobble like that my first week longboarding and had no gear on, barley avoided getting hit by traffic. those death grooves are knarley. maaaaaad respect james your my fav bro.
I remember how big of a deal this was in the scene with this video dropped. Reminds me of GMR trips, skating hills way out of your comfort zone because your friends said "you can totally do it" and just skating every day. God I miss it.
I see allot of questions arising as of how they filmed behind the subject and acquired those shots. I wasn't there, but if you look at the shadow cast by the camera at 3:20, it's a DSLR mounted on the hood of a car. Most likely a 70D or 5D Mark III. The lens looks like maybe a 24-70 or 24-105. It's too fluid for a second boarder, and at that impossible for another boarder at those speeds to be filming. Many other shots were defiantly not shot on a DSLR. Maybe a RED Scarlet, yet it doesn't look like RED footage, unless the rendering and settings were off. A Sony most likely. F700's could achieve that level of slow motion with the lighting much like you see. Overall amazing cinematography.
i used to watch this 9 years ago. i was obsessed with downhill skateboarding.also james kelly liked a post 2015 on my instagram, i was the happiest guy back then.
This reminds me of the good old days in the 70's when urethane wheels came out and us crazies flew down Trans-Mountain Road in El Paso. Of course my board was a 2X4 3 feet long and had no problems at 60+ miles an hour and I wasn't the fastest one. But passing cyclists was a great thrill.
I've seen that one as the opener of the EOFT Tour - on a huge cinema screen with extra loud sound. Man I was awake after that :D and literally sweating! Brilliant!
orbust Yeah but dood he's regular and he's sliding to the right, and if a car comes it obviously will see him. If he was riding in the other side of the line but making a left turn, that's different. He knows what he's doing, dude.
orbust Surely being such a small company there is no way they could have possibly had a forward observer to make sure he was safe. I mean, that's at least one extra person they would have had to involve, perhaps even two people. Even big companies can't afford that kind of overhead.
Amazing is perhaps the most overused adjective on the web but it was the first one to come to mind whilst watching this vid. Sublime is my deeper reaction. I'll be watching this one again and again. Well done to James and the folk with the cameras.
still can't get over this video.. I've been watching this video even in our office and i know it is not allowed but man i can't resist the hype. Such inspiration James, hoping we can see you on #VLT2016
Bravo James bravo you killed it in this video along with your self almost but hey even stupid little things get to the best of us at some point. All in keep up the kick ass work👍
There's no way in hell I'm even trying anything close to this without a full face helmet and MotoGP type leathers with the built in airbags. But being confident enough in his skills to face the danger is what makes this so rad, and so raw.
I remember driving up one of the roads he was skating down and thinking wow this is one crazy road to drive up much less ride down! Of course James Kelly would do it. And do it with tons of steez.
Goodness that crash looked like it would've stung. It's exhilarating to watch Films like this because Us Redditors rarely get the opportunity to experience something so extreme. We Redditors tend to have more laid back hobbies and modes of transportation. We aren't Pain Enthusiasts and We certainly aren't a very coordinated bunch (unless you're talking about fashion sense). As such, It's not unusual to see Us rolling around town, at a leisurely pace, on our Razor brand Scooters ( I even have a custom cup holder on the handle bars of mine). Ciao.
I saw a video that made me stop - stop what I was doing, stop what I was thinking, even how I was breathing - this video mastered my emotions and altered my vitals. At that moment, my heart jumped into my throat, and my nerve endings fire, I realized I saw something memorable.
Incredibly shot video, as well as incredible talent. I think the following behind footage was shot from a vehicle(regardless its extremely well done), can you guys tell us? :)
k guys new rule you may only leave a comment on this video if you have ridden a longboard. We get it 65 mph is super duper dangerous, and god forbid we cross over some paint on the road. It's a risk we take because we love doing what we do.
Why I love longboarding... Even when we eat it at high speeds, we get back up, heal if we need to, and keep going. Scars are a badge of honor, and never a sign to throw in the towel.
As a Skater back in the day I was thinking the whole time how you would even think about going that speed with wobbles and rocks. Then you got instant wobbles and biffed it. You got huge balls man. Insane.
my guess is ~45mph ( based on the fall reference at 2 mins being 60mph and this slide looking like it was 1/3rd slower...also the knowing he is a pro at fast freeride helps me make that educated guess ) THE ONLY WAY TO FIND OUT THE EXACT SPEED WOULD BE TO ASK THE FILMER/FOLLOW CAR DRIVER WHAT HIS SPEEDOMETER READ. cheers mate!
I don't know anything about downhill skating but I come back here at least once a year. There's something about this video, it's just mesmerizing.
Same
Same! Saw this 8 years ago or something… and here I am. Still amazed. 😮
oh hell it is, that video got me starting downhill/freestyle skating :D
8 years already… wild
I love when you see James reach the edge of his comfort zone and start to get sketchy, I feel like that's when his real style comes out.
Exactly
1000% agree. James really was in his own level than no one could reach. Still one of my favorite all time dh skaters
Amen.
Thanks Arbor and James Kelly, not just for making an awesome video, but especially for including footage of how even the pros deal with stuff like wobbles...and fail. The sick footage is inspiration, but can be a damper when we face failure, so the fail footage gives us the strength to persevere. Thanks.
This is truly breath taking. James fucken Kelly melts minds.

just had a self realization moment lol
Videos like these are the ones that push me to be better rider. Thanks Arbor. Like always, cinematic production quality and insane riding.
I want to see the road rash! Damn!
Tipsy! Love your content! ❤
OH... MY... GOSH... THIS IS FREAKING AMAZING!!!
How fast was he going?! Especially when he fell.
Sixty on the fall.
seanmaxwellmyers Where did you hear that?
On Instagram
***** mph
I work for Arbor
I watched this video years ago and suddenly today I remembered it. Just spent 2 fucking hours looking for it on TH-cam. Worth it, still better than 99% of nowadays downhill videos.
ive had my longboard for 9 years and it still holds up like a charm. i love arbor
this guy is seriously ahead of his time. he may not win all races but no one blurrs the line between freeride and dh like him. yeah people skate as fast as him, but no one makes it look this chill and does it with so much style

lol its called a speed check not drifting
bryce flanary It's called both.
If you call it a drift you must not actually DH, I hear groms call it drifting and it makes my nuts flinch. Standies, sit down slides, glove toesides, please anything but "drift" these are not cars in Tokyo...
Austin Arthur
Dude, it's both. Speed checks before hairpins, drifts during sweeping turns if you need it.
This is what life is about.....this man has my respect

Wow, that part around 2:15 is Tioga Pass, insane! James "Mind melter" Kelly wow!
I’m almost positive this vid was private for a while. Glad to see it back. What a friggin ride.
One of my favorite skaters and favorite Swans songs. Perfect combo.
no need to explain why james is my favorite rider after this vid, and all his other arbor vids. My favorite vid before this was James Kelly Unbound , but now this is, holy crap calm down James XD

... no words... i don t know how to explain what i m actually feeling
im in shock too, it was beautiful yet insanity
Good cinematography, kudos to whoever was on that.
Ikr
This blew Liam's video out of the water and that one was sick as is.
It’s back!!!!
This video has something magical; the music, photography, the ride itself... I don't know, maybe is just a combination of all of them but I had lots of emotions going on while watching this (something that not a lot of videos can).

Una de las mejores producciones que existen en el longboard !! Aqui recordando estos videazos desde Chile en cuarentena !
wow. just wow. the views, the way it was shot, the fall, the speed wow just wow
i got a wobble like that my first week longboarding and had no gear on, barley avoided getting hit by traffic. those death grooves are knarley.
maaaaaad respect james your my fav bro.
10 years after this videos still rocks 🤟🏽
I remember how big of a deal this was in the scene with this video dropped. Reminds me of GMR trips, skating hills way out of your comfort zone because your friends said "you can totally do it" and just skating every day. God I miss it.
Absolutely beautiful edit. One of the best without a doubt.
James Kelly has such a nice flow in skating.. Definitely the best in my opinion
I see allot of questions arising as of how they filmed behind the subject and acquired those shots. My jaw was clenched the entire time I watched this. I give this an overall Sphincter Factor of about 9.5/10.
i used to watch this 9 years ago. i was obsessed with downhill skateboarding.also james kelly liked a post 2015 on my instagram, i was the happiest guy back then.

60 huh
that fall. kills me just watching it. Great video.
Still one of my favorite longboarding videos to this day. Man, that guy's crazy.
I love how some people think the ending clip is sped up. Such a compliment to James. 2:07 is mad raw standy slash.
I've seen that one as the opener of the EOFT Tour - on a huge cinema screen with extra loud sound.
Man I was awake after that :D and literally sweating! Brilliant!
yea me too! in groningen
1 year ago today this amazing video was released! Cheers for that!
GOT DAMNNN! Mmff them speed wobbles doee ahhhhh.
Crossing double yellows all the time. Nice.
he is not when its blind..
Indeed, extremely immoral! should be jailed!
***** he did in that one segment at 1:40, if a car came around that corner he was toast.
orbust Yeah but dood he's regular and he's sliding to the right, and if a car comes it obviously will see him. If he was riding in the other side of the line but making a left turn, that's different. He knows what he's doing, dude.

Either way it's amazing. To go that speed on a board. I could see myself flying right of the edge. NUTS!!!
BESTEST LONGBOARD EDIT OF ALL TIME OMG!! THIS IS AWESOME!
The absolutely best music choise I´ve ever seen! Or heard or whatever...
Amazing is perhaps the most overused adjective on the web but it was the first one to come to mind whilst watching this vid.
Sublime is my deeper reaction. I'll be watching this one again and again. Well done to James and the folk with the cameras.

Still one of my favorite boarding vids of all time
Cinematography overtakes the boarding skills :)
Dancing on a razor's edge. I bet it's on that thin line that separates him from death that he feels most alive. This is amazing.
Best longboarding video on TH-cam.
Whoever films the arbor videos is a complete god...
Wowwww!!! Very crazy man! Surreal...
Bravo James bravo you killed it in this video along with your self almost but hey even stupid little things get to the best of us at some point. All in keep up the kick ass work👍

You've got to be kidding...
Unless you're talking about /r/longboarding redditors.
nonames000 An adult has a 'custom' cup holder on his razor.
TEN YEARS, STILL FCKIN AWESOME
SUPER AWESOME !!!
I saw a video that made me stop - stop what I was doing, stop what I was thinking, even how I was breathing - this video mastered my emotions and altered my vitals. At that moment, my heart jumped into my throat, and my nerve endings fire, I realized I saw something memorable.
best video I've seen in years. great flow james.
Swans + James Kelly what a badass video.

This video give me the biggest goosebumps I've ever gotten hahah best video ever.
Incredibly shot video, as well as incredible talent. I think the following behind footage was shot from a vehicle(regardless its extremely well done), can you guys tell us? :)

Impressive skills but video quality is artistic and just awesome. Very good work with camera. Great job.
k guys new rule you may only leave a comment on this video if you have ridden a longboard. We get it 65 mph is super duper dangerous, and god forbid we cross over some paint on the road. It's a risk we take because we love doing what we do.

james kelly is a machine!
Is that the old abandoned mine in Atlantic City, Wyoming on South Pass at 2:37
Why I love longboarding... Even when we eat it at high speeds, we get back up, heal if we need to, and keep going. Scars are a badge of honor, and never a sign to throw in the towel.
Simply awesome!
Nice footage, awesome trip..
EXCELLENT VIDEO! Great.
DAT WOBBLE, FUCK!
Holy crap. James Kelly you are the man.
This video is still awesome 5 years later.
My hands are sweating watching this awesome video. Well filmed and nice editing.
Intense, edge of your seat action! Skills and insanity lol!
this is the video that made me start longboarding faster.
He could have died so many times in this video :o
...or broken at least his radial head clean off.. at least.... just sayin
How many?
I would have died tripping off that first step, so he's way up on me.
James Kelly probably been doing these runs for the last 5 years...
***** eh. i doubt he goes this fast usually (if ever). It was for a shoot so i have a feeling he really tried to push his limits.
James kelly, my respects on that wobble from hell you got. You are a legend!
Superbe video!!!
Holy shitballs, that was amazing ! I love the atypical soundtrack, also.
As a Skater back in the day I was thinking the whole time how you would even think about going that speed with wobbles and rocks. Then you got instant wobbles and biffed it. You got huge balls man. Insane.
j'adore cette vidéo, la musique est cool, le mélange des deux est parfait
Vincent Krucien bah en meme temps c est un badass du downhill, il a été champion du monde je crois et sur cette descente il dépasse les 100 km/h
how fast was he going when he went into the squat slide at 2:10?
my guess is ~45mph
( based on the fall reference at 2 mins being 60mph and this slide looking like it was 1/3rd slower...also the knowing he is a pro at fast freeride helps me make that educated guess )
THE ONLY WAY TO FIND OUT THE EXACT SPEED WOULD BE TO ASK THE FILMER/FOLLOW CAR DRIVER WHAT HIS SPEEDOMETER READ.
cheers mate!
