I'm from South Sudan. I didn't go to school when I was little because I was born during the war and to make matters worse our Country was invaded by the neighboring country. So it left us with no choice but to leave our Homeland and we went to other country to seek refuse, to make long story short I came to United States with my husband and my son. I started English as an adult learner it was difficult I got headaches when speaking English at first. Learning a language is a non- stop journey you have to be consistent. It's just you even native speakers learn something new every single day. Thank you so much for sharing your stories with us.
I am a native English speaker and I am blown away! 🤯 Your English is almost flawless! I’m watching this video in hopes that I can apply what you did in my language journey. I’m currently learning Spanish and Russian.
Hi! My name’s Peter. I’m Russian, learning English. If you are interested in learning Russian please, let me know. I assume, we could be helpful to each other, could we? We could talk to practice speaking. Thank you.
Thank you so much for making this TH-cam channel. I am Japanese and so admire your teaching skills and passions. I always get motivated and study harder again after watching your videos even when struggle with enhancing English comprehensions especially speaking skill. You are the best online English teacher!!
You speak so clear, that’s amazing! I don’t understand every single word, but I try to do this, I’m about at the start of my English journey. Thank you for video. It’s very useful!!
I am truly impressed. I work with a lot of Ukrainians here in the U.S. and every time I hear them speaking in their native language it just sounds like gibberish to me. I imagine myself trying to learn their language and it just seems so impossible to me. So for you to be speaking my language at this level is mind blowing. There was a moment in watching this video I realized you're not an American and that you just acquired American english, I got a little freaked out because I was so impressed.
There are millions of people speaks just like her or even better but Needless to say English is the most beautiful and rich language in the world.Your mother tongue became part of me ,my daily life and even stopped speaking in my language because of willing to learn this delicate language

Аня, ви дуже сильна людина! Коли я вперше побачила ваше відео, то подумала, що ви американка 😊. Я часто переглядаю ваші уроки, бо ви доказ того,що англ. мову можна вивчити і в неангломовній країні.Ви надихаєте мене! Дякую за вашу працелюбність і відкритість 😊
Hi, Anna! I'm also from Ukraine. I'm such a passive learner. Somehow I ended up at B2 level. I mostly reading, watching movies, and listening to podcasts. Speaking and writing is my weak spots. I didn't quite get how many hours you spent per day in the beginning of your journey though. You are motivating me, thank you very much
Hello, Anna. I’m Japanese and can speak American English like you even though I’ve never lived in any native English countries. You shared how you have become fluent in speaking English in this video and I realized I have done nearly the same things as you to be a fluent speaker of English. In my view, a good language learner could have the same kinds of learning methods or processes to be fluent wherever they live and what first language they speak. I have watched several thousands of TH-cam videos about how EFL learners can improve their skills. I notice most of successful EFL learners have the same kinds of learning methods. Your videos are so inspiring and could make EFL learners motivated to learn further. Please keep on doing amazing and mesmerizing videos for EFL learners around the world.🙏
Omg, me too! I’m from Malaysia and at best we speak a non-standard variety of English here but I used mostly similar methods as her too! I’m glad it works for you. My fluency is probably just 70% but I try my best to be as fluent as possible. I’m glad I’m alone in this kind of journey.
What you've said are all relatable. I saw myself in your experiences. I'm not as good as I wish yet but you gave me courage to continue what I've started. Nothing is impossible for the one who perseveres. Thank you for being so honest about your journey of learning. God bless!
Do not believe it. She does not have an accent. Living in the US for several years, I have noticed that the accent will be the first the sign that you are an ESL. This is a SCAM. she wants to sell you something.
Congratulations! I'm from Poland. I've been living in USA for 4 years and still working on my foreign accent! everything I've learned it's my own work at home raising 2 kids so I am proud of myself. I'm really impressed by your work and great results! My daughter corrected little mistakes I made ... VERY tiny mistakes ! 🤣
Dear Anna, its 2024 and im very grateful that i found your channel!! Now I'm still working with my english but I can say proudly that I can understand most of your video without subtitle😆 (something that a year ago me will hard to believe) I will work hard to improve my english especially on speaking & writing. Wish me luck😉
Good for you. I think that means your English is very good and there are a lot of people you can speak English with. I studied English for years, but there are few people around me I can speak English with. but I love this language very much.
Well done Anna, you are right, the only way to be better in anything it's to push yourself every day. It's impossible to learn something and progress if you stay on your comfort zone. Our society should says and shows more often to new generation the effort to reach the best you want to. Congrats and carry on as I do too because I am frensh and year after year speaking, listening, phoning, reading, watching become more confortable for me as well.
In my opinion there is no way to be fluent in English unless one Puch himself to practice a lot I wanna to thank again Anna you made me More excited and motivated that is great help only
Your vocabulary is amazing! Your pronunciation and diction are awesome! Your appearance is fabulous! So many reasons to subscribe and continue watching all videos 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Hi I´m very impressed how you can speak english very clearly, I´ve been watching your videos on youtube and I´d like to speak English as good as you . Thank you for helping us every single day. I wish you a great day.
No creo.. lo q pasa es q lo debio haber estudiado bien, ella misma dice q no a viajado a otro pais, a lo mejor practico d otras maneras con nativos no crees?
in brief: The video is presented by Anna, a non-native English speaker who shares her journey towards English fluency, primarily on her own, without living in an English-speaking country. Here's the summary of the video: 1. **Duration of Learning**: Anna mentions that it took her between a year and a half to two years to become proficient in English. 2. **Initial Steps**: She started her journey after the birth of her son, wanting to change her life and follow her passion. She started a TH-cam channel in English and dedicated her free time to learning. 3. **Listening Skills**: She first worked on her listening skills by immersing herself in English language content. She started with educational videos in English and moved on to TV shows and movies. 4. **Social Media**: She followed English-speaking individuals on social media to continue her immersion. 5. **Community Involvement**: Anna joined a community of non-native speakers on Facebook where they would record videos of themselves speaking on different topics. 6. **Writing**: She wrote down new words, phrases, and grammar rules. She used five notebooks for this purpose and also wrote stories and maintained a diary in English. 7. **Accent and Pronunciation**: She joined an accent makeover course to work on her pronunciation and accent. 8. **Private Lessons**: She took private lessons for speaking practice and to address queries she couldn't find answers to. 9. **Online Speaking Clubs**: She took part in speaking clubs to practice her English speaking skills. 10. **Speaking English with Family**: She spoke English with her husband and son, which helped her improve further. 11. **Content Creation**: She started a TH-cam channel in English and began posting in English on her Instagram as well. She used podcasts and books for further learning. 12. **Courses**: She enrolled in courses in English according to her interests, rather than English courses. 13. **Teaching**: Eventually, she started teaching as an American accent coach. The video is sponsored by Skillshare, an online learning platform. Anna emphasizes the importance of consistency, patience, and determination in language learning. She speaks about her journey and the methods she employed, emphasizing that her journey was a cumulative effort of various methods and practices. She advises her viewers to do as much as possible for them and test their limits.
Your accent is amazing. You're in one of them who has a great accent along with their pronunciation. I listened to you at 1.25 speed. So that I can understand natives of English language as well. Whenever I listen to natives, I don't get 100% of what they are saying. A teacher suggested in his video that listen to language teachers at 1.5. By doing so, you can understand natives easily. I have just watched this video lesson at 1.25 speed and got everything.
Thanks a lot! After getting to know about your journey to fluency. I've figured out one thing that "consistency is the key"! Now, I'm going to be consistent and finish my daily goals!
Great example of success. I love learning English as my second language also. It takes time but as you said when work hard and spend enough time, eventually you can see the results. Great job !!
Stumbled across this...as a native American English speaker, just want to say congrats and well done for your fluency accomplishment! Very, very impressive! Your accent is excellent as well; only a few pronunciation nuances that give you away, but in no way is that a bad thing - those nuances give it that attractive character that is charming to native speakers. Just my opinion. Cheers from USA! 🍻
@@lancechris.2592this is hilarious. So, "it works wonders" is the basic idiom that means that something functions VERY well. Stevie Wonder is/was a famous American singer who is blind. Saying "it works stevie wonders" may mean the same as the basic idiom, or it could have the added context of something functioning SURPRISINGLY well. 😂
I’ve just found my soul-student! LOL the steps you’ve taken are exactly those that i myself have, too. I’m so satisfied with the results i’ve been experiencing since I started doing the right things to study English! I truly hope this video reaches every single ESL student who is struggling with the fluency issue. Your English is perfect, Hanna! Congrats! 👌🏾And thank you for sharing your thoughts. It’s just amazing!
First of all, your spoken English is amazing and if you hadn't said that you're not a native English speaker, I wouldn't noticed it hahahaha. Basically, you did everything that I've been trying to do (and I really do) for almost one year in order to become fluent in English. Americanizing my accent is my goal as well, but that's not a kind of obsession because I'm not a early bilingual. However, you got a new subscriber. ;)
Really! You have impressive voice I have watched so many motivational and native speaker but I didn't hear such kind of pronounce i am blissful and peaceful to hear your voice Because you speak fluently, perfectly, confidently, articulately You are absolutely right about it if you will believe than you will achieve
Your speaking abilities are just amazing! What a wonderful pronunciation! Thank you for what you're doing! You're a great motivator. 💪🏻😎 My best wishes! ✌🏻😉
Hi Anna, I am so impressed and excited to hear about your journey. I have to tell you that What you said was my lifelong journey. At some points, I felt that I'm the one who is talking. I'm Iranian, and when I started learning had no clue why I was doing this. Thank you for sharing your beautiful experience. 🥰🙏🙏
Resuming. All things that you want to achieve needs dedication, consistency and time. Studying English everyday for a long time and you will get the dreamed fluency.
its not that easy. i mean, this girl give as some awesome tools to leart english (which works as a charm as we can see) and its not just about time and passion.
Your journey in studying English was amazing and inspire me to do the same thing as much as possible. Thank you, Ms. Anna, for sharing your experience on how to become fluent in English..
I´d say her most important advice was about listening. Listening means exposing yourself the more you can to english contents. I can say it by personal experience: exposure is the key. Changing your cellphone language to english is not enough, definitely. Actually, this is really inconsequentional. When we talk about exposing we mean you have to watch movies and tv shows in english. If you already have a good level of fluency you really have to stop watching stuff with subtitles. We can only improve better our listening skill if we do start listening contents without subtitles: that´s what is called "real english".
Your journey is an example to everyone! Amazed how much you dominate the language and speak as a native speaker. To be honest when u very first found out your channel I thought you were native English speaker hahah Congratulations to you!! 🌸
My parents and their families came to the U.S. from Sicily in the early 1970s. They always told us that English was by far the hardest language for them to learn.
Your American accent is extremely good. Outside of some Dutch people you sound the most like a native American than anyone I've ever heard. It's interesting that your vowels sound like the accent that is similar to people from Minnesota, USA. I've never heard that particular sound from anyone who isn't from Canada or Minnesota.
I love your story I've been strugling with finding good ways or methods that would work for me very well. But after I've watched a couple of your videos, I just realized that I've resisted the ambiguity so I hasn't been able to feel relaxed and be patient when I'm learning English. Now my mind is more calm than usual while watching your videos because I accepted your tips just right after you mentioned them :)
There is another problem with the fluency that none of the heard by myself teachers have ever spoken about. Wonder what it is? It is fluency in your native language. How can a person become fluent in a foreign language if he or she is not actually a fluent speaker? I've never ceased to be amazed about those people I"ve been trying to teach speaking English for some time. Especially that part when they come to the point they can't speak faster than they speak their native language:) and when they ask me why it is so, I say: "because you are not able to speak fluently" There is a great difference between fluency and simply fast speech. Fluency deals with such thing as rhetoric and not all the people have that naturally. So if you want to become fluent in a foreign language you are studying you should also practice fluency in you native language. And it doesn't include speaking only about "how was your day" or "getting on a plane" or all this stuff you are usually given at any course of foreign language learning, but the capability of speaking on different topics and usage of gigantic loads of vocabulary. Not any person can do this and what's more important it is not necessary for many of us to do so. And remember the most principal thing, communication is not about fluency, it's a lot more about comprehension!!!
Yeah, exactly. I've come to think that for a while now, too. I'm not so fluent in English cause I've never been actually quite fluent in Spanish (my L1) due to I'm a very introverted person and don't have much social experience. So that's why I stopped worrying about speaking fast (fluent) English as a native English speaker would cause IT'S JUST NOT ME! AND THAT'S PERFECTLY FINE, as long as I'm able to communicate anything I want/need everything is gonna be alright 👌💪
I’m agree with you! I also think that if someone is more able to listens then talkative probably in an other language the fluency and even the speedy are difficult to accomplish. This happens with me 😉🙃
Absolutely you’re right, especially for me I was trying to study English and I make everything English. I mean if I’m listening something I 90% listen in English and all movie in English than now I end up to forget my own mother tango tbh 😂😂 It’s horrible to see not being fluency in English yet you hesitate to speak your own language 😒
Karona M if you’re anti-social person like me, there is a this app call Buddytalk it’s calling around the world and practicing your English with strangers 😂 it’s actually quite fun coz you speaking with pple around the world.
@@samirahsamir6930 Thanks. I actually started to use Hellotalk and it's really great! It's almost like having an ig account except that everybody knows we are all learning the language from each others comments and suggestions. I really recommend it it's quite fun too!
Hi Anna, I'm from the Czech Republic and I'm 56. I have been learning English for many years, but unfortunately without success. Now, in my "old" age, I said to myself - I'll try and start working hard at it. I have seen many videos how to start, but your videos are really perfect and motivate me... Thanks for them ... and hopefully it will work.
Hey Anna, I'm new here. u know I have been studying english for years. but.. still stuck in the beginner level. I know it's because I didn't have so much time to practice also I wasn't strict my self. ur story really inspired me. I'm leaning english by watching english videos and podcast, wish me luck 🙏🙏
This is insane, I struggle to believe you but realize you are for real. The first time in my entire life Ukrainian speaks with no accent and has never lived abroad. I traveled the world since I was 22 and lived in Canada for over 14 years, I CAN NOT hide my accent that good. Wow!! I am shocked.
My path was very different from yours and I took 15 years to get to fluency. But it was my path, the way it happened to me. I went to an English school for 5 years, then I did one more year learning how to teach English. It was awesome and I think at that point, I would be able to be fluent, but I didn't have any other chances to study or to use English. I went to university and despite I used it for texts I didn't have the chance to really talk in English. So I was just listening, watching, playing video games, all in English. First with subtitles, then without. Same with games, but all alone. Then in 2019 I had the chance to talk with a friend that came from US in English, and at that point, it took me 1 week to fluency. BUT I had spent about 15 years just passively learning the language, I couldn't use the spoken languange with others, just some small phrases that I shouted sometimes, some texts, but not a real conversation. One thing that is interesting is that I was able to talk in English with an American accent without even thinking of it. It just happened. Anyways, I still study everyday, and nowadays I'm trying to learn German, Italian and Latin, and had studied Spanish before but I still need to practice with others, the same problem I had with English. By the way, I'm from Brazil, and you can't find a lot of people talking in English around here. But like I said, this was my journey, it's incomparable.
@@sridevirengarajan1445 One thing that made me get a fluent level was to listen a lot. I mean, it seems to be simple but it isn't so simple. I went through the process of watching movies and series, first using subtitles, then removing it to listen, and listening more and more, until I could get exactly what they were saying without any help. I played a lot of video games, usually with subtitles so they could help me to get different accents and ways of saying the same word. And finally I tried reading out loud texts so my mouth would pronounce the words the correct way, so I could get used to talking, saying words in English. And then, when I had the chance to have a real conversation in English with someone I just spent a day to get used to a real conversation. For me, it took some time, but everyone has its time, so you should keep practicing, this will get you fluency before you expect. And one more thing, when you have the chance, try to talk with someone in English, even if you're not fluent, this always help, and don't feel afraid to make mistakes, that's what makes you get fluent.
you really are fluent! that's so nice to see someone who made it and that it is possible. I've been studying english for so long plus lived in USA for one year and yet I am struggling to become fluent.
What amazed me is not how fluent you speak, it is your pronunciation. You sound almost like a native English speaker. You knew which accent you preferred. A lot of people still struggle to distinguish British English and American English after years of learning. How could you master your pronunciation in just two years? It's unbelievable. Every single learner knows that the longer the sentence, the harder it is to use the right tone. Please don't just tell me it is all because of practice. The only thing I can believe is that you are truly gifted with language.
Anna, you are such an inspiring person! Now I'm more motivated to work on my English than before. Thanks a lot for the video. During the searching I came across your channel and subscribed immediately after watching one video. I absolutely admire your great pronunciation.
I also like to training my listening skills first. I do this 'cause this was one of the main motivation to learn English. This is what gives me the fuel to do more and more
Анна спасибо вам! У вас очень приятный акцент , вы говорили что вы хотели заниматься со своим акцентом и у вас получился, а можно услышать ваше произношения на русском, просто хотелось бы сравнить и понять , интонации и на английском и на русском похоже ли)))
Thank you for your video. It inspired me to watch more videos and to spend more time for learning. I never think that you from Ukraine, because you speak like a true American girl :-) I'm from Russia and I learning English about 5 years like a hobby but my learning goes very hard because I spent so little time for English before and your video explained me what I did wrong. Thank you very much and I wish more subscribers for your outstanding channel!
Сказать, что я в шоке, это не сказать ничего. Честно говоря, я думал, что с таким произношением и беглостью ты долгое время, большую часть жизни проживала в Америке. Браво👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Произношение у нее очень хорошее, грамматика тоже... Но сразу видно что она русская, я не знал что это за канал, но с первых слов стало понятно. Вот когда будет непонятно что она русская - это будет успех!!! ✌️
You are such an inspiration for me, I love watching the videos that you're talking about your journey. It makes me feel more able to learning English and confident. I'm facing a big deal now which is to keep my studying routine, but when I see your videos I get psyched and it helps me a lot to be focused and productive. Thanks, Anna 💜💜💜
No beating around the bush , go straight into tips and I mean in specific details and of course amazing accent ... that make you different from other videos Miss ! Very helpful!
Wow, the accent and melody is just amazing! You are NOT a native speaker? Unbelievable. When I start talking, I always sound very slavic, no matter how hard I try to pronounce correctly.
I am an American and a high school English teacher with 30 years of experience. You speak English very well. Yes, I can hear a tiny hint of an accent if I pay attention, but it is barely noticeable. Besides, your English is infinitely better than my Ukrainian. Congratulations.
Even though I’m not an American, I’ve noticed some tiny things in her speech at the beginning of the video. I immediately paused the video and looked at her information, and it was really cool to realise that I was correct about her being a non-native speaker. I don’t know whether I’m right or not, but I think sometimes she loses her aspiration on consonants, which is impossible for a native speaker because it’s a natural part of pronunciation. She did a great job, though. I’m not trying to criticise or something cuz my own pronunciation is far from her, but it makes me feel more confident in English; six months ago, I never would have realised she wasn’t a native speaker. I understand that the name of the video itself gives information about her being a non native speaker, but first I watched another video where it was not clear. I hope my writing is understandable; I still work on it.
I am in 8 class and I have been learning English for over 6 months. I speak with my friends and siblings in English. Everyday I watch English conversations for an hour. I only listen to English songs. I am also able to understand native speakers clearly. I have also learnt many grammar rules. Seriously, my English increased a lot. But still I feel little hesitate to speak with strangers and I did not focus on my pronunciation.
your journey to get fluent in english inspre me a lot and also i find motivation to learn and not giving up because i'm still struggling in intermediate level in english in 3 months after learning about 2 years or so. THANK YOU ANNA FROM INDONESIA
So happy to hear your story Anna :) I'm going to use some of your videos to inspire some of my students. This is similar to the way that I learnt Catalan at the age of 30 (I already knew some Spanish)
I’m Canadian and I speak both Russian (my mother’s tongue) and English fluently and I have to say, I am so impressed. I haven’t met a single person with an accent so close to American that it’s hard to believe you haven’t been to an English-speaking country!
You are right in all that you said my dear friend I only made a basic English course I my life but I learned and still learning by my own. Listening and watching videos or podcasts every day I like to much to listen music or watch video and reading books. I improve my English with this method. Thank you for sharing this wonderful and interesting video.
Nothing is so convincing than your advise for learning language. when I imagine your dedication to learning English, What a hard work it has been! Thanks a lot.

You just applied the natural way of learning a language. It’s incredible what you’ve done, congratulations
Hi, Anna! I'm also from Ukraine. I'm such a passive learner. Somehow I ended up at B2 level. I mostly reading, watching movies, and listening to podcasts. Speaking and writing is my weak spots. I didn't quite get how many hours you spent per day in the beginning of your journey though. You are motivating me, thank you very much
Yeah, "speaking and writing "- "is=> are"
Hello, Anna.

I don't believe you. I need proof that you can speak like American. Please make a video to show us.

Omg, me too! I’m from Malaysia and at best we speak a non-standard variety of English here but I used mostly similar methods as her too! I’m glad it works for you. My fluency is probably just 70% but I try my best to be as fluent as possible. I’m glad I’m alone in this kind of journey.

in brief:
The video is presented by Anna, a non-native English speaker who shares her journey towards English fluency, primarily on her own, without living in an English-speaking country. Here's the summary of the video:
Matt Koontz Thank you. 😊
My friend from the USA.. what does " it works stevie wonders" mean"? I think I heard her say that
just "it works wonders' with a famous dudes name in the middle lol@@lancechris.2592

It's not your journey only ... It's an inspirational lecture for all of us ... Thanks
Listening is one of the most important things to do when it comes to fluency.
Your journey is an example to everyone! Amazed how much you dominate the language and speak as a native speaker. To be honest when u very first found out your channel I thought you were native English speaker hahah

No, she sounds Pennsylvanian to me.
I was definitely think she sounds like she is from Minnesota! I was having that thought shortly before reading your comment.
I love your story

I mean if I’m listening something I 90% listen in English and all movie in English than now I end up to forget my own mother tango tbh 😂😂
It’s horrible to see not being fluency in English yet you hesitate to speak your own language 😒

I want to speak fluently.....which steps should I follow to achieve my goal? Iam not from English school.....
@@leonardonemesissk8trnice journey brother if you wanna have word with me you are most welcome......i appreciate your journey

Hi Marianna how are you. Greetings from Ireland. I hope your english is going well. Best wishes 😊🙏 Michael
It’s not that people don’t know how to improve their English, it’s really just not spending enough time learning.
and with smart ways. ; )
You right bro things take time. And learning this language takes very long time..

I wanna be your pupil please
