The IRVWPC removed probably 70% of the sounds our water pump was making. It has some cool features too, like shutting down if the water runs continuously for a long time.
It's when you get up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom. You flush the toilet and the pump comes on under the bed waking up your partner. You can always have a gallon jug of water next to the toilet as one option.
A person could just install vibration isolators at all four mounting points as well. They are standard supply items that can be bought just about anywhere. In industrial situations, we use them all the time to isolate compressor, motor, and other mechaical vibrations.
Love these tech tips. 🔨 🔧 💥 Pool noodles around the pipes that touch the walls. Mat under the pump. It lessens the noise but still allows to hear for leaks.
We had a loud noise when the pump was running and discovered that it wasn't the pump. It was actually one of the water hoses coming from the pump in the basement and resting against the underside of the floor. When we put a cloth between it and the underside of the floor, the noise was reduced greatly.
In my 5th wheel the water pump is behind and under the Nautilus P4 panel. I got a small (new) plastic cat litter pan and put that under the water pump then screwed it back down. The pump has its own rubber feet sealing the screw holes. Then I placed a Govee water leak alarm in the plastic pan. That way if any leaks from the spaghetti that is the P4 plumbing or the water pump will get captured in the pan and trip the alarm. I also put another water alarm under the hot water tank. If the horse mat is too thick for your space, a small section of a yoga mat, treadmill mat, or mouse pad works too.
Thank you! Just picked up a 2024 R Pod RP-203, and the water pump vibration was so loud. I put a pad underneath the pump, and wow, it really reduced the noise so much. Not silent but much better, great tip and thanks again.
If you make a quite box and your pump cuts off after running a bit you overheated the pump and you'll need to provide some airflow for the pump to cool down.
Another tip from someone in the RV industry. The vibrations from the pump transfer down the water lines. They can produce extra noise in the saddle mountings if they are not a neat fit. I have found a little squirt of silicone between the hoses and saddles under the RV can make a big difference. 😊
Also add some acoustic pex clamps any place where the pex lines vibrate. The accumulator and clamps totally fixed my vibration noise and pulsing water flow. I can just barely hear the pump now.
I also added the “silencer” hoses to my pump and accumulator tank, that took a lot of the vibration out. I like the accustom pex idea as well as Todd’s mat idea to help reduce the vibrations!
I don’t mind the noise it’s part of my reason I travel in small box. But thanks for suggestions. Specially I appreciate your food and juice suggestions at end. I have diabetes and i recently found out all the lies I have been told in last 30 years. Love you man.
A mousepad is also good for helping to eliminate the noise. When you put the screws back in don't Reef them down tight have a 1/16 inch or so of play that will also help reduce the sound. Another thing you can look at is to make sure the water lines around the water pump are not touching a wall or anything solid that will carry the sound and worsen the vibration.
Question: Do you have a video on how to adjust a water pump's pressure? My water pump does not pump water fast enough to satisfy my tankless hot water to stay on when I'm showering or washing dishes. My water pump pulsates like this: umm, umm, umm and the water surges just the same. Please advise. Thank you!!
My water pumps sounded like rabid wolverines in heat. For both of my RVs (5th wheel and truck camper), I mounted the water pumps on rubber matting and suspended them in the air as much as possible. That eliminated a vast amount of the vibration transferred. Now, they just make a delightful little hum. Either that or my hearing has deteriorated more than I thought.
Can you review the IRVWPC, the Intelligent RV Water Pump Controller, which is supposed to keep the water pump from constant on/off pressure to a constant pressure on mode, to quiet down the WP. I'd be interested in your comments.
I will be looking into one as well. After watching the pressure fluctuations the controller seems like a no brainer. 182 US is a little steep. But so is having repairs done.
I found the majority of my noise was coming from my pex water line vibrating against the thin wood paneling. Placed some foam between my water line and the wood panel and bingo most of my noise was gone.
Here as well. The pump makes a little drone noise but the tubing rattles against the wall creating most of the noise. You would think manufacturers would build a little better. I’ve spent more time on a new RV upgrading and dampening things, and repairing, and….😂. Everything I do I report to manufacturer in hopes they would implement or investigate but not likely. Thor btw
My first thought when I started watching this...who in the world is complaining about their water pump making noise, seriously? I agree Todd, this is my piece of mind to know if I have a leak and also a reminder to turn it off if I'm connected to a water supply!
Wish I knew this 2 months ago when my pump was making noise when not running, yep water leak, had in for repair on outside shower they did not tighten the fittings, good thing I will be at tech school next week
That’s exactly what I was gonna say once you turn that pump on and it doesn’t it just pumps a little bit to build up pressure and then all of a sudden it stops and if you don’t turn the faucet on, it should not come back on and then just like you said if it does, you know you got a leak
@@NationalRVTrainingAcademy Buy the plumbers styrafoam slitted tubes for $3 and and insulate the water lines coming out of the pump to help eliminate vibration.
Hey! I would love to see a video of you guys adding a vent to a ducted system. My Rv has 1 AC unit and it is ducted but each duct side only has 2 vents per side.
Note to KZ owners; some trailers in the 2011 year have a vent hose connected to the water tank. Most owners installed a shut off valve on the vent hose, to prevent water loss during travel. If you're camping for more than 3 days, you have to OPEN the valve on the vent hose, to ventilate the tank. Otherwise, the pump gets very loud, because it's working harder to pump water against negative air pressure in the tank. It's just like when your water tank is getting low. The pump gets louder as it begins to cavitate.
Todd, you are awesome bro!!! I fully agree and like your suggestions, but am in full agreement that you want to hear the pump to know of a problem in advance. I just found I had a stupid drip leak at the hot water tank drain plug, but that little drip 10 hours later and all my water is gone. I def would like more info on becoming a certified rv teck.
Can you suggest why mine is making inconsistent vibration noises. It's not a consistent vibration and I think something is wrong but not sure what it is
Sounds similar to what we experienced. For us it was a lack of water pressure or water flow. We had 2 water filters and a water pressure regulator hooked up. Guess that restricted the water flow a little too much.
My pump drove me crazy thinking I must have a leak somewhere...(random short burst every couple hours) then finally realized it was the ice maker...lol
Todd, Different question. When it comes to tire pressure and setting up a TPMS system, what factor should be used for the upper limit alarm? Cold PSI listed on the vehicle or trailer plus x%? Love you videos, thanks for the knowledge.
I like the rubber mat tip. I have also used rubber pipe insulation for inlet, outlet hose for pump that worked well plus assisted in insulating as well. It went from a Brrrrr to a Hmmm 😂 so you could still tell you had a leak. I think adding the mat as well would reduce even more. I’ll give it a try. 🤙🏻
My water pump noise is normal most of the time and then intermittently it gets super loud and stays that way for awhile. Super loud!!! Then it will mysteriously go back to normal after a day or so. It’s annoying. Anyone had this happen?
