AS A SIDE NOTE, once I completed this video I did come back and remove that electrical tape off those two electrical connections and I put a heat shrink jacket over them instead. I should of showed that in the video. This is a much better way to protect those connections.
I noticed on your attached equipment list for the spade connectors Amazon page, the plastic on the connectors is heat shrink. It says to crimp like normal, then apply heat to shrink the tube. Extra heat shrink doesn't appear necessary as it's built into the connector. Great job on your videos. You have become my "go to" for information.
Your instructions are clear, precise, and your speaking cadence makes it easy to understand. This video made my task much easier and less stressful. Thanks
thanks for clarifying how you use your fresh water tank and pump "all the time" seems like a good practice and if it happens to fail when you have full hookups you can still have water. We're full time RVers and you channel doesn't have the number of subs it deserves. your content is EXCELLENT!!
What can I say, we all love these DYI videos because these are items we all have no matter what brand of RV we own.RVSTREET is keeping the RV’er Safe and on the road to their next great adventure.
Getting to my pump is a pain. When I replaced it my wires were too short. I made do. I will get back in there and add wire based on your instructions. Thank you. I love that to explain without the umm and unrelated comments so many have. You just just get to the point.
I just want to let you know how much I appreciate your sharing your knowledge in such a calm, patient, detailed, and thorough way. To find someone who has acquired priceless knowledge that can only be obtained by years of real world experience who is not only willing to share their wisdom with others, but who takes the time to explain the what, when, how, and why behind each and every step of the process so watchers end your videos with a full understanding of how to properly and safely complete the task at hand... I tip my hat to you sir, (and ma'am). You are a breath of fresh air for those of us searching for true, honest information to learn from. Once an endless source of facts and truthful information about anything you could think of, has been consumed by greed and ego in world where truth has been replaced with incentivised lies, and free information can't be trusted because everything everywhere now is for sale.
Thank you so much Harley for your "FROM THE HEART" encouragement and kind words. We need to just help each other. th-cam.com/video/seKk1inD6yw/w-d-xo.html
That was Awesome information about the pump replacement!… I love the information about turning the water off at night during times you that you leave. That can save you a lot of heartache! Also it don’t hurt to check your water connections to your water pump every so often to make sure they are screwed on tight. .when I was pulling my fifth wheel I had one Losen up on me . Thank goodness I caught it before it cost a lot of damage!........ lol!……Thanks again Martin! A thanks to your wife for filming ! God bless you guys and stay safe!
Great video. Everything is explained so almost anyone can do this. I have a 2008 Vista motorhome but my water pump is located under the queen bed in rear. You have to move matterss out and remove the 3/4 inch decking to get to it.
I carry an extra one myself. With 3 girls and a wife, my water pump gets used a lot and we too had to replace while on a trip. Cannot say how important this is. Thanks Martin for sharing this with everyone!
Hi Martin. I really enjoy your channel. I watch a lot of TH-cam channels due to my array of hobbies, interests, and DIY projects. Personally, I think you have one of the very top best DIY channels. Your approach, style, absolute comprehensive coverage is amazing. You explain what, why, and how in detail but yet easy to understand fashion. This episode is an excellent example of that. Very thorough and informative. Thank you for sharing!
We travel full time and I have unfortunately learned a great deal of rv repairs/fixes through trial and error over the past couple of years. I really enjoy watching your fix/repair and DIY preventative maint. videos...you are one of the few online that can keep viewer interest and teach at the same time. Safe Travels!
Awesome video. Thank you for giving the right amount of detail and making it super understandable for someone (like me) to replace the water pump! Very well done. I will definitely watch your other videos!
This was so helpful and you made it look easy! I am a newbie and changing the water pump is my first DIY repair and first time doing electrical work. Thank you!
Joyce and I use our freshwater tank and pump exclusively. We filter and fill tank with gravity fill and do not connect directly to local water supplies....guess I better get that spare pump! Great video and even better advise.
Ya, a lot of RV parts are getting hard to find. Supply chains have been really disrupted. It's a smart thing to due to critical spare parts on hand at all times. If you're interested, here's a link to all my PLAYLISTS that covers a multitude of topics. th-cam.com/users/RVstreetplaylists Thanks for watching. 🔧 👍
Another great DIY Martin....with excellent camera work by Joanie! Before a recent cross country and back again trip I replaced our water pump with a new one as the original pump was starting to make some noise and I didn't want a failure en-route. Put the original pump in the box and packed it in the coach as a backup (failures can happen even with new pumps). One difference from your DIY is that I used barrel connectors to wire up the plug with heat shrink to keep any moisture out. I figured I would just cut them off the next time we need a new pump. It's important to use the right size tubing as there is a limit to how much it will shrink and you don't want it loose. I like the tip about shutting off the water. With hundreds of connection points in the water lines and bouncing down the highways you never what might work itself loose....ask me how I know this!! A serpentine belt for my Ford V10 is not a common item at auto supply or repair shops. I purchased a new one to keep with us in the event of a failure I can supply the part immediately to allow most any repair shop to quickly swap it out and get us back on the road again.
Yep carrying an extra serpentine belt is smart. I found that getting them from FORD was the only way I could find the right one. I changed ours out too before we went full time and kept the old one as an emergency spare. Good job. 👍
Great video and explanation. So many DIY videos online are just not good, but yours is helpful, easy to follow - and covers every step necessary to complete the job! GREAT!
Thanks Martin as a fellow Millwright I no the importance of having spare parts and such on hand and since we always boondock the water pump is one of the most used items in the motorhome, I am going to order a spare one today, thanks for the advice Martin safe travels and stay healthy
Yep, you learn these things on the job and in life don't you? Especially in these days. Have you noticed how many RV parts lately are not available right now because of all what's going on? Important spare parts are ESSENTIAL. Good comment. thx Sean. 👍
One f the best videos I have seen in a long time. You are a fantastic storyteller and teacher, sir. My pump is loud and I have determined some of that is due to rattling against the frame but I thought the rest of the noise was from the pump. I figured the pump would be relatively quiet, but as you show us at 14:16 these pumps are not all that quiet.
Thanks for your video. It was both informative and intimidating. On our way to Maine after fighting our water pump for over a month we finally replaced ours Today. Paid way to much for a SureFlow pump rather than figuring out how to buy one from Amazon and having to figure out where to have it delivered. Our pump had more difficult access under the bed. Tried to use heat shrinking wrap, but it did not fit over the connectors. What a relief to have our water pump back in operation even though we only got 5 years of service out of this pump.
Thx Kx 👍 Everything I use and show in my videos is in my Amazon Store. Next time you could go there to make it easier in the future. Book mark my store below and make it even easier. And yes, having an operational, reliable water pump is essential. BTW...you should always carry a spare too. www.amazon.com/shop/rvstreet thx for taking the time comment 🙏
@@RVstreet 👍 Roadtripping fulltime in RV makes Amazon deliveries timing and location challenging for us especially in unfamiliar parts of the country. Did it the old-fashioned way-bought at retail stores. So far so good. Thx again for the video.
Great video with solid instructions. One suggestion for people to stagger and spice connectors so that they can’t touch or create a large bulge in a wiring harness. Thanks for your channel.
Thank you Martin, this video was so very helpful. I’m dealing with some water pump issues right now but luckily I’m in a city so I’ll be able to take care of it easy enough. I’m a full timer and do predominantly boondocking so I rely heavily on my water pump. I’m taking your advice and ordering 2 pumps. Thanks again.🙏🏽
My shopping list keeps getting bigger, but in a good way thanks to your videos. Great idea to turn off city water at night and use fresh water. It would be great to be able to switch from city to fresh water from inside the coach. We always turn off water when leaving and we also turn off the propane.
"My shopping list keeps getting bigger"... You know Carl that's good statement. There are so many RV folks-especially those that are just getting started-that don't realize RV's are not plug-and-play. They just aren't. It takes time to learn what you don't know. And that is a constant class we all are enrolled in. But...once you know what you really need to tweak, improve, make it handle better, maintenance items, make more reliable and safer, it's now just a matter of doing it or buying what's necessary to do it. Wise RVer's make these adjustments, while some just brush it off as not necessary. That's what this channel is all about.
We also turn off our water prior to leaving but never thought about it prior to bed. Thanks ... great tip. 👍 we also carry a spare water pump just in case. These pumps can last 20 years or a year, you don’t want to have to buy from a RV dealer where there charge twice as much as Amazon which is $55.
Love love it so helpful we did not know anything about take care of motor home were learning so much watching you guys viedo. Thank you . We have learn a tip about Black tank keep from stinking work well BORAX AND Dawn dish soap cup of mix in about gallon jug pour in puro another gallon on empty tank. Keep fresh. we got about 30 gallon black tank. Thank you again RV Street
Great information! Thank you! Love your "Can Do" attitude!! I actually pulled my RV out of storage to update it and get it back up and running! Blessings & Peace, and Safe travels!
Thanks Martin .. you answered a question I was going to ask about the water pump . Leave on or shut it off . I have picked up a few tips from you on other things . So a big thank you. Safe travels from the fiegles
Another Bravo Zulu, and great camera work Joanie, you deserve alot more credit for making Martin look good. Hey great tip on using/ exercising the fresh water system. I'm not there yet, but in planning, could see only turning on city water to shower, and if I have a water meisser, replenish water tank and shut off water. Just a constant threat when under pressure. Take Care guys
I appreciate your detailed understanding and intelligent demonstration is clear and concise. As a DIY fix it type person, takes a lot of video watching before I find one like yours to bring my knowledge to a workable understanding. My grief with my water pump , a used 2019 Sunset Trail I bought 4 months ago. The price was right and overlooked the finer details that could of been seen. Regardless I chose to tackle each hiccup as they were uncovered. Amazed at the list of tasks I have fixed. My question remains, as I have ruled out the current Artis diaphragm water pump is bad. Now it did work at first yet the electrical components of the water heater were in grave repair. Discovered the Atwood WH circuit board was bad and heat coupler fried, replaced the thermostat assembly also. Working water heater. Yeah! Now the water pump not working. Wondered if there was some cross circuit between the two. Ss there is no fuse on the Distribution panel for water pump. At this point, due to this video of yours, I can see zero filter attached to inlet of Water input from fresh water tank. Did notice a full fresh water tank overflowing at drain point when dumping tanks. 🤔 then I notice a stench like old water under bed covey space, adjacent to the water heater and water pump compartment which is under an additional step down box on left side of bed. Like an extension of the side tables part of the front covey storage space front of RV. So no filter installed in this replacement WP is why no power pump has failed. The overflow / vent tube attached to the current inline hose coming from holding tank has a valve at water pump inlet. It was in the off position where water comes in from tank yet closes off the vent tube. Yet what I discovered this vent tube when opened prevents water coming in from fresh water tank. So therefore not the area that leaked apparently a lot of water by noting the stains on wood under bed. And when I hooked up city water at my sister’s first trial run 200 miles and some assistance I needed for other repairs… the water began to overflow again under bed and poured out the back door due to RV leveling that direction. I check all lines etc and noted it was not water heater leaking it was the water city line connection apparatus. I noted the most water stains all down the inside wall. The fresh water connector apparatus did not show signs of any leakage. Replaced both of these outside fittings. Once again the fresh water tank was full again as I emptied it prior to travel. I can only surmise there is some built in check valve in city water connection , stuck . Or the water pump inlet valve from it’s tank was closed and the water coming in from city line has a T connector , leading water into RV yet also feeding water up into the outlet side of pump. 🤔. With the water pump inlet valve closed on fresh water tank side, would force water out the open vent tube, Thereby forcing water all into the compartment. My question regards the city water incoming ought to be a separate water line and not have a T-connector that branches off , upwards and feeding into the water pump outlet side? Geez 🙄 that was a lot of explaining. Something is not making sense. Why would the water pump outlet valve pump water back into the same city water line… Maybe it is too simple and I cannot see as I believed these two water systems were separated and fed the water lines in RV separately. I guess not. Anywho, i have new pump and has strainer to attach on inlet side & going to affix a 10 inline fuse from the hot wire off the water pump , as there is no fuse for water pump that I can find. Oh! I am trying to troubleshoot before replacing water pump yet this set up I am looking at is confusing. My instincts say, need an inline filter on pump and a inline fuse on hot wire. Any suggestion will be very much appreciated. Thank you for all your time and effort with your videos. Good info ! T from Tx Gulf Coast. 🌈🌈
I believe I found answer to my question. The failed pump did not have a check water valve installed and apparently the replacement I ordered does not have one either. This caused the back flow into fresh water tank.
Well, thank you! This is the first time I've found a video that answered my questions. I have to replace my waterpump and You are The Only channel to answer. I'm shedding happy tears... after replacing, my intention is to check out your 3 part must haves. Thanks again. Well done!!! 👍🤗🍾🥰
Love your videos, they’re so helpful and confident building based on your attention to detail. We have a 15 year old class B and the pump is very hard to access. I’ve been dreading the day the pump fails. After watching your video it seems to be a fairly easy replacement and I’m going to tackle before we have a failure due to the age.
No sense in dreading. It's not a big deal. If the area is small and to tight to gain access, maybe enlarge that area with a small jigsaw. Be creative. Cut away an access door or cut sheet metal blockages that prevent you to get to where you need to go. Plan your steps to not only make it easier this time but in the future if you have to ever have to get to this area again. Just look at it and study the area before you begin. Study and come up with a plan. Then ask yourself, "what can I do to make this job easier"? What tools am I going to need? Then to help assist you in re-assembly, take pic's with your phone before you start to do anything. If you get confused in reassembly just look at the beginning pic's to assist you to get back where you need to be. You can do this. This is not a big or hard job. On a scale of 1 to 10, I'd put this at about a 3. Pls keep me updated on how this went if and when you ever decide to tackle this job. Peace CJ. 👍
Good video. All the basics are covered. One improvement would be to reverse one of the sets of spade connectors so it is impossible to get wires reversed when reconnecting in the future. While accidentally reversing is improbable with color coded wires and is not a hazard on a 12V water pump, if reversed the pump will run backwards. Nonetheless it is good practice to make things foolproof at every opportunity.
Thanks for your helpful video. We fulltime in a 25 ft. Winnebago View and our water pump has started making a nasty grinding noise. So we’re thinking it may be getting ready to go out. Unfortunately, we don’t have much room in our coach to carry many spare parts or connectors, but I make do. And you think your water pump is difficult to access? Ours is under our bed in the back and the only access to it is by tilting up the bed like a chaise lounge. Wish me luck. We use our fresh water tank and water pump almost exclusively and take the same precautions you do regarding sanitizing the tank and turning off the pump at night and when we are away. Thanks again
in our first coach, We had a toilet flush valve get stuck on and didn't realize it, we went away for the day and came back to water pouring out the door. Ever since then we do the same thing, when leaving for the rv for more then a few minutes we shut off city water.
Hey Martin! Great video on the pump! We were away for two weeks doing our shake down trip with the new 29RS GD 5er! Met a fellow camper who’s pump went and I told him about your TH-cam channel , I hope he watched this last one of yours! Keep the camera rolling guys!!!! 🇨🇦👍
We have had 2 failures when we were on city water and replaced our floor. We now live only on our water tank and water pump. It is a small hassle to fill the tank almost daily but we have great peace of mind at night we turn off the hot water heater and pump. Never trust the water pressure at a rv park things happen all the time and they lose pressure then when it comes back on it may have excessive pressure.
That's a very good, smart practice. Don't forget to also install a pressure regulator at the beginning of city water. th-cam.com/video/14Zo8Vkvh5o/w-d-xo.html
I am still wondering what was wrong with the old pump. 22 years of aircraft maintenance has me wondering. Probably that $7 pressure switch. Cool video. Look into lever wire connectors. They will change your life and you’ll throw away those butt connectors.
I don't think there's another full timer on you tube that explains DIY repairs/upgrades the way you do, except maybe RV Geeks, but not quite as well as you do.
My thoughts on low voltage wiring repairs/installations: 1)Working on a bench or where sufficient space is available my first choice would be to solder the joint using flux and heat shrink covering. 2) Use a butt connector first choice is preloaded solder type, second choice a crimp type. 3) Spade or bullet connectors again solder filled first second crimp style second. Best to get the female ends with installed insulation jackets. No messy electricians tape that screws up when in a hot environment. I cut the wires so that the joints are offset not side by side and in a repair like yours I put the insulated female on the hot wire and the bare male on the negative. Also worth mentioning the color coding for wire size differences.
I saw on another channel that the inline filter bowl is actually supposed to be positioned upright. I can't say for certain whether that's correct info. However, I'm going to turn mine upward and see how that works out.
That's not correct but ya let me know how that works out. Turning it upwards will probably still work but, the Screen Strainer Bowl works best either pointing down or @ 90º one way or the other. My old pump worked for 9 years with this kind of set up and we use it everyday.
@@RVstreet Sorry haven't replied sooner. I haven't been checking youtube comments. You're right. Shortly after I made that comment. I ended up at Shureflo's website. Bowls goes down. That other guy had such a professional demeanor and channel that I bought into it, hook, line and sinker. And, I, who pride myself in not being duped into the BS on the internet. Like all filters, ALL, the bowls go downward, allowing gravity to sink heavier particles. So, I did not do the lame ass thing the fool suggested. Sometimes I think people intentionally tell misleading information. What a world. Happy travels ;-)
Hi Joanie, hope you are doing well. Just wanted to know if ya'lls Amazon store is still working. I want to keep supporting Martin's and your store. Me and my family miss Martin and you are in our prayers.
Marten, I was wondering even with your water treatment system, have you ever looked at your anod rod in your water heater? Also, look into a video I think it's called "never change your fan belt again" this guy soaked a belt in this milky stuff that had three numbers. Like 303 or 353 something like that. The belts never wareout. I think you could even brush it on sidewalls to prevent dry rot. Also, good for rubber seals around doors and windows. You have the best camera operator. 😎
We have a Atwood water heater so it doesn't require an anode. Only Suburban water heaters use those. He may soak his belts but I would NEVER, EVER put anything on any belts. I have lots of experience with belts and what not to do, and this is one of them. Now we do use 303 on our tires. It's like suntan lotion for your tires and I have covered that in other videos. For our rubber slide seals, radiator hoses, and other outside rubber parts we use another product to keep them conditioned and soft. It's a fantastic product. I've covered that in other videos too. Joanie says thanks. I like joeblow's comment. haha thx joe 👍
Got a question Martin, but first as usual your videos are topped notched and you talk for us laymen struggling to figure this stuff out so we can 'get it', thanks. I learned so much from your videos. Question: why turn the water pump off at night? is that so if there is a leak your not pumping water into the coach? I would figure you'd hear the pump kick on should that happen, but what about those 2am bathroom trips? Turn the pump on again then off again? Curious, thanks in advance for the response. And please keep the videos coming.
"is that so if there is a leak your not pumping water into the coach?" Yes. "but what about those 2am bathroom trips? Turn the pump on again then off again?" Yes 👍
@@RVstreet Awesome thank you !!! I will now be adding this as part of our routine as well as turning off the water whenever we're away from the camper. Heck, that just makes perfect precautionary sense. Thanks again!. Keep those videos coming!!
Hi I'm in Scotland just came across your channel as I had an issue with my shurflow pump, it was he twist water strainer that was cracked and caused a leak probably iced up during the cold weather I think ,when I tried the pump after filling the tank it just kept pushing air through the system not water I'm hoping the crack was sucking in air , anyway new strainer ordered and a spare pump hopefully it will be ok , loved your video mate now subscribed .
It won't if you you apply it right. Don't put it all the way down to the end of the threads. Been doing it this way for years. But.....try it without tape. If it doesn't leak, you're good to go. 👍
Oh great....now I'm a "smart old geezer". That's a picture I've never seen myself as...but ya know, luv is in the eyes of the beholder. Soooooo, I'll take it. I guess. haha thx Mark 😜😜😜😜😜
Please correct me if I’m wrong. Appliance don’t draw amperage. Amp are the speed at which electrons flow. If I’m not mistaken, it’s watts. Watts are the consumption (power draw).
IMO that is nothing but semantics. Watts or watts converted to amps is the same thing when measuring power. Whenever anyone is troubleshooting anything-including techs-your always looking at amps. Batteries the same way. What are the amp hrs. of the batteries. For another example: In this video the new water pump has a placard and it clearly says Fuse 10amps. When measuring the draw, you want to know how may amps is it drawing. So if you want to use watts that's fine by me, but ultimately your going to want to know total amps that are being drawn. That's my take 😎 Edit: Now in other videos I've explained when I buy different appliances for the RV I keep them to no more than 1500watts. Why? Because as long as I keep them @ 1500 watts or less at peak power, I know I can run them in emergency situations like plugging into a house 15amp outlet when parked at a friends house, OR....when I use my Bluetti for emergency power and so on. So in case I do use watts as a measuring criteria.
I'm using a fresh water tank for the first time.... however, i'm going to use it to water our city's pots on Broadway and the flower beds at the parks in town. But I'm in need of advice how to hook up the wiring, since it only has the stripped black and red wires, I need to somehow get an adapter of sorts to connect to my work vans current trailer hitch system... I'm new at all this stuff
Thank you sir. Was a good instructional video and I got alot out of it. I just ordered a shurflo pump from Jeff Bezos, prior to seeing this. Who knew you had links? Anyway thanks alot. I will sub and share.
Thank you Rylex. Oh well, no problem, you can save our Amazon Store link to a convenient place on your device and use it from now on. Thanks also for subbing and sharing. 🔧👍
Had city water fill the fresh water tank on its own, with water discharging via overflow drain. Wet bay Tank Fill/Normal valve in proper position. 2021 Vista with plastic valve- worked valve back/forth- stopped the leak but not sure for how long? Also water pump pressure using fresh tank for shower and other use is great, but on city water wimpy. Use a water pressure valve set to 55-60psi. Any suggestions how to get rid of wimpy? Leaving Maine after 5 weeks back to humid mid-Atlantic- enjoy rest of your stay Martin. Thanks to you and your wife for the great service to all of us RVers trying to maintain our rigs.
*Had city water fill the fresh water tank on its own, with water discharging via overflow drain* Your valve may be shot or have trash or mineral deposits in it and not sealing properly. I have a video coming out soon that addresses this issue. Do you have a water softener? *Also water pump pressure using fresh tank for shower and other use is great, but on city water wimpy* You may have clogged water filters? Changer them out if you have them. If I understand your comment correctly, when you're on city water your main valve should be set to NORMAL. Then, you do not use the water pump. If you turn off city water and keep the valve set to NORMAL, the pump should work fine. Your pressure valve is set properly @ 50-60psi but that only applies to when you're hooked up to city water or filling the fresh water tank. Come back if I didn't answer your question fully or you need to clarify so I understand better 👍 BTW...we're traveling the next few days so I may be a little slow responding.
Wow, talk about responsive-Army training showing. Coming from a Navy guy. 😊 No not using a water softener, will change out the water filter. And yes, valve set to normal when on city water, and not using water pump. Will drain the fresh tank when I get home, then check the filter on the water pump. Assuming if I unscrewed filter cap with a full fresh tank, water would come pouring out. Will look forward to your future video on the valve. Thanks again.
@@cortmassey2138 No need to drain the fresh water tank to check the screen on the pump. Look at your pump. See the water line coming into the screen bowl? Now, just trace back a little ways and you should see a "T" valve. Turn that valve and that will shut off water from the tank to the bowl.
@@RVstreet Thanks again Martin for the personal time you take to help educate RVers to better enjoy the experience. Heading southbound in Maine this morning with rain drops.
I think the most common issue is a broken contact where the wires plug into the switch. That was my problem. A neighbor had a spare one. So we change the pump head sure flow, and by morning time it broke again in the exact same place. The wires going into the switch are corroded and it becomes very narrow and flimsy going into the switch. It's a piece of planned obsolescence. The other thing is I didn't disconnect the battery, and when I came inside I had no pump power on the panel. I was troubleshooting all over the place until I finally found the fuse was blown in the main board panel.
Great presentation Martin however I would have used just two longer pieces of shrink wrap tubing an covered the whole set of connectors and use dialectic grease and that will seal both ends without the need for electric tape which comes off Over Time.
Ya I should of done that. The reason I didn't at the time was I wanted to show how easy it was now to connect the wires from the new pump to the old plug and then I wrapped them with tape. But in hind sight I should of showed that. thx for watching, your comment and kind words. 👍
I also shut off city water at night or when away. But a ? I've had my holding tank fill up while on city, I thought maybe because I hit the water pump. ( I do use mine also) I was wondering if that caused the tank to fill up more.? As for now when I have fhu. I make sure I only have a half tank so so in holding. And always checking to make sure it's not filling, but if it has, I have done a re boot if ya will. Gone out and released pressure from and re-hooked up the hose. ( To get that check valve lined up again. Sometimes all good better safe than sorry 😐. Just replaced my spare water again. 2nd time in 6 yrs
Water pumps do go out. They will go out faster if water feeding into it is not filtered properly and softened with a water softener. Mineral deposits build up on the diaphragm and check valve and cause failure. In addition to that...... *Straight from SHURflow Manual:* Normal pump maintenance is all that is needed: Checking and cleaning of the strainer, normal sanitizing and winterizing and occasionally checking all plumbing hardware and fittings for tightness. Lack of sanitizing is the number one reason for premature pump failure and poor performance over time. Lack of sanitizing will cause scale buildup on the diaphragm and valves, causing low flow and leak back [occasional pump cycling with no faucets open or tank filling up when hooked up to city water]. Here's a video on how I set up my water: th-cam.com/video/14Zo8Vkvh5o/w-d-xo.html My PLAYLIST: th-cam.com/play/PLkQXtMp9xodT-mrqODN1IH_B2ZAJJ--1c.html
I like how you explain everything. I am all for keeping spare parts in our popup and even my cars. I like to carry my own mix of a first aid kit, back up hand tools, multimeter, tire pump, tire puncture repair kit, and all fluids: oils and coolant. And we’re not overweight. Having the parts can turn a nightmare trip into back on the road in half an hour. Do you have a video of what you carry? I’m curious. Thanks, Maria
Thank you 👍 No I don't. Not yet. But it is on my list of videos to do, probably this winter. But if you'd like, you can see all the videos I have produced thus far in different categories. th-cam.com/users/RVstreetplaylists
Martin- Great video (again!!). If I understand, you fill your fresh water tank, shut off the water at the outside faucet and use your water pump. My question is: Do you leave the water pump "On" all the time, or do you turn on the water pump only when you need it? Thanks
Turn it ON only when we need it. But here's a little more description of our procedure..... I leave our fresh water hose hooked up to the main spigot all the time while we're at the RV. If we leave the RV we turn OFF the main spigot. At night time-usually after dinner and dishes are all done-we turn OFF main spigot and turn ON the water pump therefore using the fresh water for the remainder of the evening. We use the water pump and fresh water till we go to bed and then turn OFF the water pump. Now both the main spigot and the water pump are OFF. During the night if we need to use the bathroom, we turn ON the water pump to flush then turn it back OFF. We have 4 switches to turn ON the water pump: 1 in the wet bay, 1 in the living area, and then 1 switch in each bathroom. It's really easy to get used to and this way we run no risk of something bad happening with water leaks when we're away or in bed sleeping if that ever happened
Everyone out there is going to cry about the way you did the connectors, but they will last as long as the new pump. Even though it's not the way I would do it.
Awesome. I watched this and my first thought was, "Electrical tape!? I mean, that's okay, but if you have heat shrink on hand..."
That. Too
@@shadowphantom2567he used regular spade connectors and heat shrink over them, not the ones he put in the parts used.
I'm not an RV owner, but I watched this video, and learned a lot. Thanks Dude!
Your videos are so important to me. I’m a 72 yr old woman who completely takes care of her own 24 ft Class C RV by herself. Thank you so much
That is awesome! Thank you so much. 🔧 👍
I’m 65, but I too do all the maintenance. I was so happy to find this channel.
Are you still out there in your rv being awesome?
Thank you Martha and Mark so much. 💕
God bless you guys and stay safe!
thx so much Lester. 👍
You're the man. Good job. 👍
Well thank you BH. I do my best to cover the important details but also keep folks engaged. It's a tight line to follow.
Great video! Thanks for taking the time to make it. I just ordered a spare water pump for our coach. Now to order a spare serpentine belt.
Awesome video. Thank you for giving the right amount of detail and making it super understandable for someone (like me) to replace the water pump! Very well done. I will definitely watch your other videos!
Very helpful, clear and sound advice and tips. Thank you so much for the high quality information and camera work.
This was so helpful and you made it look easy! I am a newbie and changing the water pump is my first DIY repair and first time doing electrical work. Thank you!
Thank you, you really do explain and show things so simply. 👍

GREAT!
Great input Martin, there are so many that never have been RV'ing in the past and this is valuable information all the way around. Thank you.

Good comment. thx Sean. 👍
Another great video, Martin. Based on your recommendation I now carry an extra water pump, serpentine belt, and stairs motor.
There ya go. We actually have a stairs video coming out in about weeks. Be sure to watch that.
New subscriber!
Thx Kx 👍
Everything I use and show in my videos is in my Amazon Store. Next time you could go there to make it easier in the future. Book mark my store below and make it even easier. And yes, having an operational, reliable water pump is essential. BTW...you should always carry a spare too.

thx for taking the time comment 🙏
@@RVstreet 👍 Roadtripping fulltime in RV makes Amazon deliveries timing and location challenging for us especially in unfamiliar parts of the country. Did it the old-fashioned way-bought at retail stores. So far so good. Thx again for the video.
@Kx RV66 Sorry. Ya I totally get the issue of mail and FTing. I run into that too.

You sir, are a very good teacher. I will be replacing my Shurflo 2080 in a few days. Your video will be my valued how to instructions.
Thanks Martin for your detailed answer regarding water pump. We have 3 throughout (only 1 bathroom). We will follow this practice.
Thank you. Our pump is having issues. Will check it in the morning and replace it needed .

Great tip about turning off city water at night and use the rv pump throughout the night.

You have a new subscriber. I don’t even need to swap out my water pump and I watched. Very informative stuff!
Thanks Jimmy. 👍
Peace CJ. 👍
I didn't like this video, I loved it. You are an awesome teacher thanks .
Ironically I think diaphragm pumps will pump the same regardless of which way the shaft spins
Yep. That's what everybody should do. Just turn OFF the water.

Thanks John for the referral.

WOW Charles, you just made my day with that comment. 💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕
I wholeheartedly agree with you, Charles. This is my first time watching this gentleman and I am thoroughly impressed. Count me as a new subscriber!
Great video, always good to carry spare parts.
Another awesome video! Love your detail, your a great couple!!
Thanks so much Rick. 👍
Yes, the store is still up and running and thank you so much for using it. Thank you so much for the prayers.♥️
I like joeblow's comment. haha
thx joe 👍
Got a question Martin, but first as usual your videos are topped notched and you talk for us laymen struggling to figure this stuff out so we can 'get it', thanks. I learned so much from your videos. Question: why turn the water pump off at night? is that so if there is a leak your not pumping water into the coach? I would figure you'd hear the pump kick on should that happen, but what about those 2am bathroom trips? Turn the pump on again then off again? Curious, thanks in advance for the response. And please keep the videos coming.
"is that so if there is a leak your not pumping water into the coach?"
Yes.
"but what about those 2am bathroom trips? Turn the pump on again then off again?"
Yes

Hi I'm in Scotland just came across your channel as I had an issue with my shurflow pump, it was he twist water strainer that was cracked and caused a leak probably iced up during the cold weather I think ,when I tried the pump after filling the tank it just kept pushing air through the system not water I'm hoping the crack was sucking in air , anyway new strainer ordered and a spare pump hopefully it will be ok , loved your video mate now subscribed .
marlin ur a bad a**! keep up the good work brother!
The flow max water pump I purchased recommended against using teflon tape which could clog up in the pump or block the pipes.
It won't if you you apply it right. Don't put it all the way down to the end of the threads. Been doing it this way for years. But.....try it without tape. If it doesn't leak, you're good to go. 👍

That's my take 😎
Edit: Now in other videos I've explained when I buy different appliances for the RV I keep them to no more than 1500watts.
Thanks. Very informative.-new subscriber

Your valve may be shot or have trash or mineral deposits in it and not sealing properly. I have a video coming out soon that addresses this issue. Do you have a water softener?
*Also water pump pressure using fresh tank for shower and other use is great, but on city water wimpy*
You may have clogged water filters? Changer them out if you have them.
If I understand your comment correctly, when you're on city water your main valve should be set to NORMAL. Then, you do not use the water pump. If you turn off city water and keep the valve set to NORMAL, the pump should work fine. Your pressure valve is set properly @ 50-60psi but that only applies to when you're hooked up to city water or filling the fresh water tank.
Come back if I didn't answer your question fully or you need to clarify so I understand better 👍
BTW...we're traveling the next few days so I may be a little slow responding.
Great advice to turn off the water when leaving your coach. I never even thought about that. Are there more than one water pump in most coaches?
As far as I know most have only one pump
Just splice the wires back together with two butt connectors. Spade connectors are a high failure connection.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge and helping the RV community, with everyones input and experience we are a team that's unbeatable.
Thanks so much for sharing your wonderful video!
Do I need to shut off the electricity first?
No the pump runs off 12v. Just handle 12v wiring like I showed.
*Straight from SHURflow Manual:*
Normal pump maintenance is all that
is needed: Checking and cleaning of
the strainer, normal sanitizing and
winterizing and occasionally checking
all plumbing hardware and fittings
for tightness. Lack of sanitizing is the
number one reason for premature pump
failure and poor performance over time.
Lack of sanitizing will cause scale buildup
on the diaphragm and valves, causing
low flow and leak back [occasional
pump cycling with no faucets open or
tank filling up when hooked up to city
water].

Thank you 👍
No I don't. Not yet. But it is on my list of videos to do, probably this winter.
But if you'd like, you can see all the videos I have produced thus far in different categories.

@@RVstreet thank you!
Very helpful! Thank you!
