    More manufacturers need to post the TCVW, "Total Combined Vehicle Weight" which is the tow vehicle, the trailer, occupants and cargo all added together.

    This is the only time I've had any sensible insight to towing with my Kia - or any vehicle. I know it's concise, and not all-encompassing, but this clarifies much. I'm about to take possession of a 23 Soul. I have often ponder a trailer for my kayak (s). At present, I roof-top my light boats, but obviously dropping a boat from waist height is simpler. Roof racks may damage the car finish, catch crosswinds and are a drop-risk for $7000 boats as well as perhaps having less than ideal fuel mileage.
    I understand that in Europe, the Soul is a highly respected camper tow vehicle, but dealers in Canada have always frowned on trailers with the Soul. In the end, I'll just keep what I know from decades of rooftopping my kayaks. I do have considerable experience with trailers (lots of errors, LOL).
    You're a star in my Kia horizon. Excellent presentations and information. Nothing short of FANTASTIC. Why has the Kia universe been devoid of all this, 'til you arrived. Thanks very much, and best wishes to you. - See you on the road.

    So what I got out of this information; example using a "2018 Kia Sorento AWD 5,000 lbs towing capacity" ... you should figure the total weight of the 3 occupants plus the hitch weight minus the original 2 occupants weight of 150 lbs thus equal 300 lbs (calculated in the original 5,000 lbs with 2 people rating plus there 15 lbs cargo) and make sure the trailer your towing GVWR (lbs) is under that remainder. Keeping in mind that "GVWR is the max loaded rating of the trailer" and keeping speed at 100 km and using a distribution hitch would be best keeping weight distributed as well trailer has it own braking system. So a 4,000 GVWR would be the max trailer you can pull in a nut shell as that type of trailers dry weight would be about 3,400 lbs unloaded. Correct ¿? you did say we can ask question 12:37 Please do answer :0) Thanks P.S. YES BRING IN A KIA SORENTO WITH A RV TRAILER AND TALK ABOUT IT MORE PLEASE Great info

    Looking forward to future videos on this topic especially the trailer brake option. The SC has a hook up under the dash for an aftermarket brake controller so maybe explain that, along with the whole 7 vs 4 pin requirement.
    Personally I've always assumed overkill and having a nice wide safety margin when towing. For example if you want tow 2k comfortably you need something rated to tow more like 4k because of the factors you've mentioned. My small boat has 300lbs worth of fuel & batteries alone, so the total load on the vehicle can add up quickly when you figure people + gear + food/supplies.

      I can't confirm this yet, but I suspect that Canadian models of the Santa Cruz are wired a little differently than American models when it comes to trailer prep. I'll have more on this later.

    We bought a 2024 kia telluride because we planned on towing a double wide snowmobile trailer with 2 snowmobiles. When I looked at the manual, it says 1650 lbs without trailer brakes and 5000 lbs with trailer brakes. The load we planned on towing which includes 4 people, our stuff in the car, the double wide sled trailer and 2 sleds works out to around 3400 lbs....so....I'm assuming that we cannot tow the double trailer with 2 sleds and 4 people since the trailer does not have brakes, is that correct?

    Hi, I’m Rey from California. I own a 2016 Hyundai Tucson Se. With a 4cyl 2.0 engine. I was reading about my tow rate and it said I have a 1,000lbs capacity.!. I’m thinking of buying a small that weighs 3,500 total weight.!.

    I just bought a 2024 Hyundai Santa Cruz. The dealer in Augusta Georgia has ordered a trailer hitch for my vehicle but I wanted a trailer braking system installed too. They are telling me that the 7 pin plug has the trailer braking system integrated. Is that true?

    Hi Peter, you mentioned Kia and Hyundai don’t have trailer brake system built in. If I go with a 7-way harness wiring and hitch accessories with my palisade purchase, do I get brake wiring since it’s 7way?

    • @2DogsVlogs
      @2DogsVlogs ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes you do as long as what you tow has breaks. For example, I have a Cerato and I tow a caravan which has trailer breaks. Fitted is Kia's 7 pin towing package. Issues I have is the rear suspension struggles with the tow ball download on the rear axle. With upgraded suspension this can be fixed if I end up towing.

    In Australia the kia sportage diesel awd has a braked tow rating of 1900kg but only has a maximum towball weight of 100kg ?
    I think this is a bit strange as I cannot find anything that's 1900kg with anything near 100kg towball weight not that I will tow 1900kg anyway with my sportage but even 1200kg tow weight is more or close to the maximum 100kg towball weight can you please explain?

    How about elantra gt 2020 it says it’s not rated to tow but the hitch company says it can tow up to 2000lb I’m very confused.

      I have a 2014 Kia Forte and it too towing is not recommended so that means that it probably failed SAE testing where as the 2013 Kia Forte can tow 1800ib braked. Since I have read up on this I don't have confidence in the mechanics or transmission of the car.

    Can the 2022 Hyundai sonata luxury be capable of towing a u-haul 4x8 enclosed trailer with 400lb in it?

    Tow capacity and payload are different. People, cargo and tongue weight subtract from payload. Tow capacity is still 5000 pounds.

    Hey Peter, when you do the towing with a vehicle in the bay, could you please use a Sportage? I just recently purchased one from your dealership and im starting to look at utility trailers for my camping gear and I've never towed anything before so any tips hints tricks you can show would be mucho appreciated.
    (btw I FREAKING LOVE my 2021 Sportage EX S :) ) I love this channel and i have a friend in Norway that knows about you cause he was jealous I saw Teddy in person. :P

    In Ontario by law if you tow a trailer over 3000 lb you must have brakes on the trailer. The number is even lower in Hyundai manual.

    • @BrantfordKia
      @BrantfordKia  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, that's correct. And it should be lower in the manual as most vehicles don't have nearly the braking capacity to stop an extra 3000 lbs within a safe distance. Trailer brake controllers are very easy to add these days and there are great options that don't require mounting anything on the dash or interior of a vehicle. I'll do a video on that type of thing in the future.

    Peter, I just want to be able to tow a small utility trailer to the dump, about 3km. away. But this really limits my choice of vehicles. Is there any way to set up a vehicle for this purpose, even if it isn't rated for towing?

    • @BrantfordKia
      @BrantfordKia  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not rated to tow means that it hasn't been tested. That's why they can't recommend it. I can't tell you what you should do with your own vehicle, but there are occasions where European vehicles are rated to tow and the nearly identical North American vehicles are not rated.
