Ludivine Furnon from France performed the last Compulsory routine of all time at an international elite competition.
It was a sad farewell to the golden era of this once so beautiful sport.

Sad day for us gymnastics fans. I remember when Ludivine finished her routine, you could see some officals on the floor in tears. I teared up too knowing how much of a grave mistake getting rid of compulsories would soon become.

The Compulsory was such an important basis for Artistic Gymnastics. It is a pity that the FIG let go of this preliminary, but I remember also the comments on various German broadcasts... they always complained, that this competition I was boring for the audience...

But I am truly afraid, they (the FIG) would never bring it back....

I have never heard of her - but she executed that exercise wonderfully. I would honestly say that the dropping of the Compulsories by FIG was in my opinion an absolute travesty and has had, dire consequences for Artistic Gymnastics. You only have to look at the gymnasts of today - muscle bound acrobats - all doing the same boring elements with about as much lightness and elegance as a sack of potatoes! Thanks for posting.

I have the same approach, when it comes to the compulsory. The gymnasts had to perform basic skills, with a top form - from head to toe. And that helped the athlete in general to perform in a higher quality in the later rounds.
Although you could divide the ones, who didn't care so much for the compulsory competition over all easily... they were sort of sloppy in the execution in the Optional also.
When it comes to Ludivine, she became the European Champion on Floor in the year 2000 and won Bronze in Sabae at the Worlds 1995.
