TRANS setting on the 710 actually stands for Transistor (solid state) not for Transformer. This preamp is know for not using any transmformers in any amplifier stage. Nice video though!

Thanks Sam, I've been in the market for the 4-710d and I wanted to watch a few reviews and stumbled onto this.

So many people buying things that color their sound without any control. I can never understand why you want to introduce distortion unintentionally.

But it's better to get the perfect recording first before mixing, this have alot to do with it, so interface is weak and make your voice not full, rather sounds trashy or thin

The little difference is what makes the difference. The tube makes the vocal smoother which make it easier to eq the vocals.

Perhaps you mean transistor instead of transformer?

Daking mic pre one or ua710?

I have the 710 and honestly the difference between the tube side and the transistor is really thin... Moreover, it adds a big boost in the medium (around 700KHZ), that makes the vocals sound boomy... To me it is not a good preamp

To each their own. I’ve never really noticed a big 700Hz bump when I’ve used it, but I’m going to do some more testing this week to see what I can find out!

If you eat from the floor or from a plate the food taste the same. Is known that the perception is different. Also is a pleasure to work with nice gear. 1% with !% makes 2% and overall 15% better along the track is 15% better. Wine taste better from a heavy bottle as perception. I like to drink water from a transparent glass. I also like the history behind these gear. The VU meter, the knobs, and the professional look that inform that i'm not just messing around. Too much focus was placed in the last years only on convenience. How about recording with style. How about a luxury car vs a junk one? They both transport you from place A to B. In short is more than just the sound. Also i would say that the audio interface in half of year is half the price. The UA will age ant get to be a vintage piece of history. Many studios have fancy gear for the choice that can present to the artist who pay and want to be there for the options. Is not that i need it...i want it and i'm gonna get it.

Even through the phone I can hear the 200-500 hz boxiness brought out by the interface preamp probably due to the lack of high end that the twin brings out

Reality check. Saturation is a simple thing to understand and emulate. Scarlett and a few plugins does exactly the same thing as external preamp with the benefit of not having everything baked in the track.
It is absolutely nonsensical to buy expensive preamps in this day and age.

This is an inaccurate representation. 1. The host clearly is not a SME Subject Matter Expert because the UAD Twin 710 Infinity has a transistor and tube option not a transformer option. This alone discredits this presentation. 2. The host ears are bias as s everyone listen via TH-cam audio which is not quality audio. Inclusion it’s imperative to better prepare before adulterating audience with misleading information. 3. The U87 microphone in singularity is a high end microphone and has electronics that does signal processing well . The mic will sound good on any interface or preamp. Moreover, develop a better objective then scope then corroborate that but this is bad unfortunately.

Simple answer…no you don’t need an external preamp. If you want a specific character or sound then yes.

Este video es mentira, el universal audio es muy superior al focusrite.. no se dejen engañar
