I am 1st dan in aikido but looking at this master teaching aikido for me is like as if i never knew aikido at all. Such a hugeeeeeeee difference 50+ years of training brings about.
It is also the syllabus of Shodokan Aikido is different from Aiki-kai. Tomiki’s Aikido has many aspects of Judo. And, there’s sparring and competitions in this style. It makes for a more “martial” style. Frankly, Aiki-kai could gain a great deal simply to borrow several of the training exercises of the Shodokan syllabus. Especially the ma-ai and evasion exercises. They are invaluable.
One of the best. A good human, too. There’s always a sense of fun at Honbu dojo when Nariyama Shihan teaches. - and that goes for the other instructors there, too.
