    This lesson is great because it is TASTEFUL as hell!! It is so much more than a bunch of tricks...it's instead a great example of feel, texture, groove, dynamics...basically it's MUSIC!! Thank you for showing the right path!

    If people are having a hard time figuring out where this notes are coming from. It’s a blend of the major and minor pentatonic scales. First position minor at fret 12 and first position major at fret 9. That can help you visualize and remember the licks. Good luck!

    • @lloydloar1
      @lloydloar1 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Actually I think he's starting in the 5th position minor and then moves to the 1st position minor all in E minor pentatonic.

    • @chaputmi
      @chaputmi 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      This was to explain why there are notes NOT part of E min pent. Those notes are from the major pent.... however they do overlay out of first positon

      Good lick but bad teaching

    • @chaputmi
      @chaputmi 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      There a lot of notes in both scales, so it can be a little confusing. The main difference (not only difference) is the flat 3rd in the minor scale becomes a 3rd (major) in the major scale. Blues rhythm is usual played without a third (first and 5th) allowing the lead to fill in the third with either major or minor (flated). It's a key thing in blues so mixing those two scales is what creates such a cool sound. The other main difference is the minor scale includes the flat 7 (the note that makes a 7th chord). That's a signature sound to blues. Therefore an alternative way of thinking about how to mixing and matching is to add the flat third and the 7th to the major scale. One other piece of advice is to think of the major pentatonic as a blues scale...the blue note is the (flat third) so easy to add when playing the major scale over blues.

      chaputmi thanks for clearing this up. I was wondering if he was using major and minor scales

    I learned a lot from that thank-you. I've been using pentonics for blues and country for awhile, but I liked the way you used the C# to fill it out. I've been working on forms using Page's style in "Since I've Been Loving You", by adding the 2nd into the pentonic to give it a "mellow" sound. Thanks for the idea's!!
