Hi, which foot to tap? I hold my guitar in "classic pose" (in b/w 2 feet). I tend to tap my right foot. It's really difficult not to let my foot follow my hands. Ideally the hands should follow the beat of the foot, right? Any tips to improve that one?

@@bluesmani1 You're welcome. I started playing at age 16. I played daily for 4 years, then my playing became less often, and I finally stopped because I couldn't break out of ruts. I was self taught. I just picked it up again after around 20 years. I'm very rusty. My chops are shot, but all these yrs I've even hearing tunes in my head, and TH-cam tutorials reinspired me. I know if I don't play again to try to put the thoughts to fingerboard, I'll regret it. So here goes again!
If I get back to reasonable good, I'll record it on here.
I have a Guild S300-D that I bought used in 1980. I still have it. It's a jewel, look it up. I play through my dad's old pre-CBS Fender Super Reverb. The amp is older than I, but sounds fantastic.

I've watched lots of TH-cams on playing the blues but they either have a presenter who wants to just show off his guitar playing skills rather than teach it or they go into such deep technical issues that it becomes way too complex. This is the first video that just strips it down so you can play blues licks yourself by the end of the video and just get better with practice. Really great video.

He has a really good blues singing intonation. For some reason when most white people try singing blues they start growling like Big Mama Thorton. Most of the male blues legends don't sing like that. Compare to Muddy Waters or Junior Wells. Almost at speaking level but with a lot of feeling, bending notes as you would on a guitar. Even a big guy like Howling Wolf wasn't really shouting, it was a big voice but compressed.

I'm a born and raised Aussie and I was fortunate to see Tommy Emmanuel about thirty years ago before his move to the U.S and his world fame rise thanks to the Interweb/youtube revolution. I was in the second four-seater table in a small club at "The Rocks" in Sydney and though the club was full it was/is only about a 120 ish venue so it's a great intimate place to see someone like TE. He played three sets, an electric set with band, a solo acoustic set in the style of what he does exclusively now and then a repeat of set I. It was a great night as I'm sure you can appreciate and though I've seen him twice since, the last time just recently at the Opera House in Sydney, I count that night at the Rocks amongst my most memorable and enjoyable of all bands/soloists that I've ever seen. Btw Great advice on blues playing be it solo or with a band. Good stuff !!

One extra tip that will change your life: when you listen to tracks or backing tracks but can't play your guitar: play in your head. First the notes and intervals, chords and stuff, get them nice and clearly articulated (yes even in your mind it could be a problem, and what's a problem in your mind's perception, will be IRL), then visualize them on your guitar once the first step is mastered enough. You'll see the magic happen after a short while in your playing: absolute beast method. Obviously, flows better if you already have some experience with the fretboard, scales and chords so that you can find your stuff faster IRL, without it being a struggle. But it will help at any stage of your learning.

Thank you. You have come to the right time. I am tired of many things in life. You can make me think about how you feel when you see someone playing good blue music like you, so I like to play and there are many hopes to share the joy of playing blues guitar. To anyone, thank you from the heart. I will sponsor you. In the near future

Wow. Just discovered you on TH-cam. There’s lots of amazing tutorials here, but you are easily in my top 3. Instantly subscribed. Love your playing style, but more importantly (to me, anyway) is your teaching style. Thanks again. Cheers from 🇨🇦

Fantastic video. Love playing the blues, but noticed the last year that I got more and more bored and frustrated with playing the stuff I know. This is exactly what I needed to make the blues really come to life for me again and progress. Thanks!

Man I LOVE your videos, it'd be great if you could get deeper into the blues and teach us not just licks but the thinking behind licks so that we can work on them on our own. Great video as always!

Notification: a new Guitar Pilgrim video
Me: ok,where's my note book and my pen,a lot of gold infos gonna be shared here
i'm telling you this, honnestly and for me,you jumped from "emm this channel seem good, let me see" into "my favourite youtuber" in *only 3 videos* , that's a record and you can't do it without having something special, for me you have a gift, you can explain things in a way that the viewers will 100% understand and most important *they can do what you show them, that is something not many can do,believe me,and my best example is when i first saw your SRV video, before,i could only dream of playing "Pride and Joy",after your video,i was able to finaly understand the shafel rythm and *play it* in just few days of practecing using your instructions, knowing that i'm a begginer with less than 5 months of playing, now if that's not a prouve that you're the best i don't know what the best mean
and man!!! you even talk with *Tommy Emanuel* !!!! waow, and you put *Robert Jonson and SRV* style into your playing!! now i understand why you are that talented

    • @GuitarPilgrim

Hi Uchiha, you're playing for just 5 months and can already play a bit of Pride and Joy! Wow, that's impressive!! I am glad to help! I was absolutely star struck when I got a chance to talk to Tommy Emmanuel, he is such nice guy besides being a brilliant guitarist. Usually after a show, he takes the time to talk to people from the audience, I have so much respect for the man that he does that. Many artists wouldn't be bothered but he really takes the time for everybody. If you ever have the chance to seem him live, make sure to go! Anyway, have a great weekend Uchiha, best to you!

Guitar Pilgrim thank you for the encouraging words, being praised by a hight to top tier guitar player like you is the world for me,it gave me the motivation to continue, thank you so much, also,a friend of me who play for 15 years wasn't able to play the Texas shuffle of Pride and Joy (he never tried SRV style but still,he play Blues and Rock for 15 years) and me to be able to play it before him is just amazing,I was so happy, and when he told me how I managed to play the shuffle rhythm while he couldn't after hearing and seeing SRV video I told him "thanks to my sensei" he told me who and I shows him your video😊
and yeah,Tommy Emmanuel is easily God tier level guitarist,I don't know an alive acoustic guitar player who can outclass him,and he's one of my favourite to,after SRV,Jimi Hendrix and bb king,I love his presence in overall,so humble the man,and I'll definitely try to meet him some day,but Frano is the most lucky because he jamed with him and now he play with him,and speaking about the legend,he released a video recently in youtube
