The One Mineral Supplement You Should Avoid After Age 35 | Dr. Mandell

- While calcium supplementation can be an effective way to ensure adequate calcium intake, several concerns make obtaining calcium through diet a preferable option for many individuals. One major issue with calcium supplements is the potential increased risk of cardiovascular events; some studies have suggested that high doses of supplemental calcium may contribute to coronary artery calcification and heart disease. Additionally, excessive calcium from supplements can lead to kidney stones by increasing the amount of calcium excreted in the urine, which can crystallize and form stones. Supplements might also interfere with the absorption of other essential nutrients like zinc, magnesium, and iron. Furthermore, the body often absorbs calcium more efficiently from food sources due to the presence of other vitamins and minerals that aid in its absorption, such as vitamin D, magnesium, and phosphorus. Consuming a varied diet rich in calcium contributes to overall nutritional balance and provides other health benefits from whole foods, such as fiber, phytonutrients, and antioxidants. Therefore, it is generally recommended to prioritize dietary sources of calcium over supplements whenever possible.

If you're going to take calcium supplements, you *must* also take Vitamin K2, Magnesium, and Vitamin D3 supplements. That combination is what's going to get calcium to be absorbed correctly by the body. Learned it from Doctor Lair Ribeiro, who also states that just taking calcium supplements alone could be fatal.
I think in addition to what you are saying, omega 3 . D3 and K2 are fat soluble .
There’s only one form of Ca that’s safe!
It takes some getting used to, but altering your diet and tracking how much of the MDR you get through food isn't difficult. I have made up lists of which foods are high in calcium, magnesium, D3, K2 and make sure I consume enough of them daily. A simple Google search for any supplements will get you that information.

Excellent video Dr. M! I quit taking calcium supplements years ago after having horrible chest pains. I’ve radically changed my diet to organic-plant based and lost over 65lbs in a healthy way. Thank Doc for all you do for all of us✝️❤️🔥🙏🏻🛐
So glad you've addressed this issue. After my bone density scan showed severe osteoporosis, I was put on vitamin D3, 2000IU daily, taken after my morning Boost supplement, 3 Boosts daily for natural calcium. The importance of not taking a calcium pill was explained, and coincides exactly with your information. Good work.
certain exercises could help with osteoporosis , youtube has videos on it .
It sucks that Boost costs as much as it does. Idk if it's a better alternative to Boost but...
I buy Carnation Instant Breakfast and it says that per tablespoon for calcium there's 25% in the mix only and 50% when made with low-fat milk. An entire bottle of Boost has 25%. I don't know a whole lot about calcium, I just know that having to drink 3 boosts a day must get really expensive so you may save money by buying the mix in general regardless of brand. I can't say for sure if Carnation Instant Breakfast is better than Boost overall but I never see the Boost powder in my local stores so I buy the canister of Carnation Instant Breakfast for less than $8 and my choice of milk. Groceries are ridiculously expensive nowadays so I just wanted to throw this out there because when my doctor wanted me to drink Boost and also eat Activia yogurt, it became too expensive and there was no way I could meet that request. 3 Boosts a day is 90 Boosts in a 30 day period so it must bruise your wallet to do this. If you are rich it doesn't matter but if you are like me and need to try to save money you may want to compare Carnation Instant Breakfast and Boost and see which one is most beneficial and affordable. 💕
@@xbrandi12345x you're absolutely right. I've taken boost since I was in my young years, to maintain weight. genetics gave me my mom's build and metabolism. I was able to stay at 100-105, 5' tall. I'm 71, still at 103, now just trying to get full nutrition. I noticed the price skyrocket during COVID. Ridiculous prices, but I depend on it.
If my Mum were with us, she'd love to see your videos. Thank you Dr Mandell! 💯 🌼🌷🌺🌿
I tell people about clogging the arteries..they say to me..that’s cholesterol..it’s also calcium..just diagnosed with osteopenia..weight lifting..resistance and calcium in natural form..supplements gave me kidney stones years ago..bam I stopped

The bottle or box of orange juice e contains a lot of calcium and sugar. Be careful
How about magnesium glycinate supplement?
Definitely you need to take vitamin K2 with calcium!
Happy Independence Day to everyone here and to all Americans! We live in evil times and your country is about to go through hard times, but so do the UK and Europe. May God protect you all. (4 July 2024)
I hate hearing this type of stuff because it promotes more stress and anxiety which is also bad for the body
@@MrRobjs83 Yup, exactly. These ambiguous messages pointing out to the obvious crises are more stressful than they are worth reading. They offer no comfort. Gotta question where these are coming from. The world we live in today.
Why bother wishing everyone a happy day, only to follow it up with negativity? We all know what the world is going through, so it's insulting to have you point it out, under the guise of wishing us well. This is certainly not what Dr. Mandell is all about. I wish you what you deserve.

"only to follow it up with negativity"
Yup. Exactly. Gotta wonder what Eastern Bloc country or south Asiatic region these posts are coming from.
I know this is true as I am informed.
I have early osteoporosis, and I take Cacium with vitamin D. It absorbs well if taken with L-lysine. It's the same thing with D3, absorbs well with magnesium Glycinate. I also take a K1/K2 supplement on its own and always with food.
Carnation Instant Breakfast( powder) has a bunch of Ca.
I noticed kidney stone pain after a short time ,while I was
" addicted" to it. I was making my coffee - mocha.
I stopped the mocha and the pain stopped.
But I was stubborn..started
" using" again.
Pain returned.
Then I gave it up for good.
Well played, sir. 👍

Calcium is also bad for prostate gland
Love the way you say "body." 🥰
Thank you!! 🙏🏼 💯🙌🏼
One thing I learned many years ago was medical pill fillers often can carry calcium, so people can get a lot they aren't taking into account.
Thank you Dr this video serves me very well being so grateful thank you 🙏❤️
🫸🏾❤🫷🏾 Thank You Dr. Mandell 🫴🏾🏆
My sister drinks, her coffee black you want the wholesome goodness of coffee plain is your best effort. So I get my calcium from my cream very rarely do I drink milk except when I have cereal and that is about when I do. But how did we ever get osteoarthritis Because we were depleted of minerals and we didn’t take good care of ourselves. After having knee replacement and taking D3 just couldn’t stand taking pills anymore, but since I was on a lot of pain medication, I didn’t wanna find out the side effects so I stopped D3 K2 magnesium all together, and now starting up again.
Dr mandell good evening happy independence day thank you for sharing this information God bless you for the labor of love have a nice evening ❤❤❤

Can you please do a video on how to get rid off eczema
@@JamilaEga I'll tell you up front that there are so many comments from us, a lot of times it may seem we're being ignored when we don't get an answer or reply from the doc. He's obviously receiving way too many comments to reply and even read all of these.
I just wanted you to know that part so you don't feel as if you've been ignored by the doctor. He does sometimes randomly answered comments but it's like tossing dice because there are so many subscribers.
What have you tried dealing with eczema ? I can give you a lot of information since I'm a student at University and this is something that isn't my major but it is a minor in studies. So if you could tell me the things specifically that you tried such as descriptive lotions, herbs or vitamins, prescription medications and so on. I think I can help you but I really would like to know what you've tried and what worked even if for a short time? If nothing worked then I definitely know which direction to move. Good luck and I truly hope you do reply and give me an opportunity to give you some suggestions based off what hasn't worked so far for you. Peace and hopefully hear from you
I take calcium, I take vitamin K2 by MK7 which takes calcium to areas it should be absorbed. Magnesium, D D3 etc all on a daily basis
Yep, that's the way to do it!
What if you have severe osteoporose
Carla stole my thunder...lol
I stopped taking calcium years ago ...so glad I did.
Absolutely causes kidney stones. I am convinced that taking one TUMS nightly caused my kidney stones. But eating lots of almonds and spinach certainly didn't help.
But almonds n spinach are horrid for oxalates! 😫
@@c.h.7581 that's exactly what I said.
I'm confused, they say eat your almonds, get your spinach 🤔
@@kathyclayton5347only in moderation unless your susceptible to getting kidney stones.

Hello Doc. ❤❤ Do you have a video on Acetabular Retroversion 🤕😘
In general avoid calcium and dairy alcohol and smoking
Nigel in Canada🇨🇦
I always was suspicious of taking Cal/Mag supplement
I'll never take it again
You're missing the point you need to take vitamin K2 or mk7 so the calcium goes into the bones where it needs to be!
Happy 4th
Hi Doc. What of people with Rheumatoid Arthritis, is CalD3 okay?
I have osteoporosis and am limited in diet due to lactose intolerance and colitis. What to do?
Wow have taken !!! Concern for bones, now, bone density?? Porous, ??ive Taken wrong way!!
Sorry but doctors don’t help.
Thank you dr Mandel.I watch most of your videos and they’re pretty helpful .
I am a patient of osteoporosis and the doctor has advised calcium supplements, I take it daily, he said that I have to take it long life. I'm 68 years old. What to do?please advise
Research taking it along with a vit d3/k2 supplement, & a magnesium supplement. Or get your calcium from foods as Dr. Mandel recommends, but thend3/k2 & magnesium are important supplements to take nonetheless, per me & my journey ( early 60's).
I consume natto several times a week and figured I’m covered among other healthy foods.
What is natto
Special if it comes from a chemical environment!
Dr. How do you feel abouts magnesium gel on bottom of your feet at bed time
I take BoneUp by Jarrow
After my weight loss surgery they said I have to take the rest of my life. Citrate
👍

Is it okay to take egg shells for calcium??
I don’t take calcium. Doctor putting me on statins to fight calcification of my heart walls. Good idea?
how much K2 does a person take?
Ask your Dr.? Thats rich.😅
So recently I was told that taking magnesium w/o calcium isn’t rt. One leaches the other, but I know 2much calcium isn’t good either. To combine them w/vit D also, is necessary? But what about ppl who have genetic hyper cholesterol prob? Can’t seem to figure it all out.
Thank you Doctor. I am 65 and have been taking calcium for many years. They were prescribed by my Doctor and are on a repeat prescription. 🤔
Just take vitamin K2 (the MK-7 tyoe) and D3 as well. That will keep the calcium in the bones and out of the arteries.
Thank you Ellem. I will. 😊
Whst about taking egg shells for cskcium
Can I take egg shells for calcium
❤🙏
Can you take collagen when you have calcification in the arteries, is it a fat.
I've been taking Ca supplements with Mg supplements for decades. I don't have any of the problems you mentioned. How do you explain that, Mr. Mandell?
How is your cholesterol? Have you had a calcium Test done to see if it's blocking arteries in your heart? 💓 I would recommend getting blood panel workup on your heart to make sure everything is truly good, otherwise you're not going to know until you have a heart attack or stroke!
@@lovejoy71422 Cholestrol levels are good. The ratio indicated a 5% chance of developing heart disease. I can briskly walk 4 to 5 miles without difficulty and getting winded. I've never had kidney stones. All my labs are in range or better. I'm under the supervision of a physician. I'm doing really well for my age. I credit other healthy living techniques. This question is more complicated than Mandell suggests. The biochemistry of the human body is complex and many factors affect it. To say Ca by itself is a problem is very shortsighted.
❤️👍👍👍
Sooo what Do We Eat..
He lists these in this video.
He just told you in the video
what about the calcium in the water they chlorinate water with calcium hypochlorite and when you use a water filter calcium carbonate is introduced to the water then.....and we cant drink deminralised water or it leaches minerals from our body...
Can someone in the age of 25 to 31, can such a person be taking collagen supplement please Dr Mineral?
I am not an entertainment product...I am a woman kindly understand others pain too....😢
So vitamin d is ok but not calcium tablets?
Asking my doctor about nutritional supplements is pointless. He asks us why in the world would we take K2 or magnesium? He only knew about taking calcium with D3 to build bones, so he has partial knowledge and faulty knowledge of nutrition.
Why not just have sesame seeds instead?
Sesame seeds are high in oxalate, and can cause kidney stones. Not sure about other issues it could cause.
Water you drink and shower has enough calcium. Calcium in your blood test is not a good thing , doctors dont tell us they say ohhh you have enough calcium but calcium shouldn't be in the blood it should be in the bones . If its in blood it plaques in the arteries. I stopped eating cheese , milk, yogurt .
Hey Doc, i just drank too much water in the morning and i vomited roughly, felt a strong pain on my chest, after the pain settled the remaining water comes out with light blood... Any help of what happening to me?
