That Mauna Loa gift box looks soooo beautiful…..but is it me, their macadamia nuts looks a lot smaller than what they used to be?

I love that you go to the OG Mom & Pop shops. Majority of these old shops have no A/C. As a kid, we didn't know any difference, it was a treat to go eat out. Palace is very old school - I know the folks who live in the upstairs green building next door (shown when you were in the parking lot). My fav Mauna Loa is the milk choc coconut - I always buy a pack when I fly out. Amanda, glad you're feeling better.

YES!!! You have a video on Palace! I’ve gone here since I was a kid. I was shocked there was no line and you guys got parking. The parking alone has prevented me from going there in the past. Sorry you had the stomach bug. Glad you feel better. Camera looks good.
I usually eat the Wonton with the mustard on the side. Once all wonton is finished, only then I put the mustard in the broth. So I get both flavors styles.
Mauna Loa is one of my go to omiyage (pasalubong) along with Big Island Candies. I usually go for the Caramacs. My favorite. Another great video.

I love macadamia nuts and yes they are a very fatty nut! Shortly after my first trip to Hawaii in 2010 my gallbladder ruptured and I had to have emergency surgery to remove it. My doctor asked me what I had been eating recently and I told him about all the fresh pineapple, coconut and macadamia nuts I had enjoyed during my trip. He "jokingly" said it could have been the nuts that cause the rupture due to their high fattiness. I had no history of gallstones or any other problems with my gallbladder, but now I don't ever have to worry about it again!

Mauna Loa has great macadamia nuts, I especially love both the garlic/onion and also the butter glazed ones. Mauna Loa is legendary. ABC stores used to be gift central for us visitors back in the day. It was always fresh pineapples by the case and Mauna Loa people brought home by the case. Macadamias came in glass jars and pull top vacuum-sealed tins and they only had salted and unsalted. Milk or Dark Chocolate covered only.Hawaiian Host was the other brand we'd get. Funny,we have been able to get Hawaiian Host and Mauna Loa in Canada for a few decades now but I don't think to buy it here. I think I need to tho.

Palace Saimin is a classic saimin shop with the terri beef sticks. It was one the work guys staple lunch locations during my days at Shafter. My sempai's used to eat at all the classic stops in the Kalihi, Mapunapuna area. Lots of places have closed since then, but those seniors knew all the best places to eat. There are still a few places out there. Camera's good. Both look awesome.

Love your videos Guys!! New camera is producing nice, crisp pictures. When I saw the thumbnail, I knew it was Palace Saimin. My uncle used to take us there after UH football games at the old Honolulu Stadium. Palace Saimin was the last place, that I know of, that had the old, glass bottle soda machine, where you had to have a nice grip on the bottle neck and pull. I miss those. Amanda, I thought you having the stomach flu would be the reason to do this episode. Was it just a coincidence? Felix, believe it or not - it's just the mustard for me, no shoyu, and like you, separately, but when there's only the soup left, I'll put the remaining mustard in the soup. Lol. Keep up the good that you do!!

Now this is nostalgic! Teri stick and wonton min was the combo I always went with. Oh yeah, can't forget the hot mustard and shoyu either. Do they make teri sticks with something other than beef? I've never been to Palace Saimin. I would always go to Tanoue since it was the closest!
I'm with you Felix, shoyu and mustard on the side. But I would dip the saimin noodles into the shoyu and mustard, put it in the spoon and add a little bit of soup. Then take a bite of the teri beef.
Can I suggest that you do a home cooking video by making Sun Noodle dishes. Since they are a Hawaii company, you'll be supporting local, too. You probably have access to all the different types they make, not like here on the mainland. We have limited choices.

Howzit y'all! Another great video flick. I've never been big on noodles other than mac salad or mac n' cheese so I reckon I'd skip the saimin. On the other hand lemme grind on those teri sticks! They look so onolicious! As per Mauna Loa macadamias, they are da 'bess!!! Last visit to Oahu I bought 10 big bombucha bags of mixed varieties from ABC to take home. They had a chile flavored one that was my favorite and super wombat onolicious. My dear sweet ma and sisters visit Hawaii almost every year and I always request they bring me some Mauna Loa mac's and they never disappoint as they get 'em at ABC and of course they love shopping at ABC as do I. admittedly, I haven't been to HI in a long time; but, I don't think I've ever seen the grass in Honolulu so brown and dry. :( I've also only been to Kaka'ako Waterfont Park once... its a little far from where I stay early '00's. I went to surf spot ("Panic Point"?) but it was so crowded that day and no beach... little too intimidating for casual touristy water fun. Coincidentally, I also went to a Saimin shop later that same day... I don't remember name but it was just okay saimin... I think it was a small place at the bottom of one of the towers of the Hilton Hawaiian Village where I was staying that visit (I usually dont stay Waikiki but I had a work conference there so work pay)... or maybe it was a neighboring building (probably not there anymore), but I love Saimin, so I'll go even if its a little shop in such a touristy place.

LOL…I never thought about it till you said it. The traditional start with the broth tasting 😄. Love Mac Nuts 💕. Garlic and onions are my faves for anything😋
Nice camera!! I must say though…your videos have already been very clear.
    Nice upgrade though!!
And the sound is always crystal clear too. But I’m not knowledgable in things video.
I appreciate all the work you put into your videos. Hugs to Lucy 💕🤗🤗💕
Edit……okay. After watching the video twice, I noticed the clarity. Niiiiiice❣️

Palace Saimin is da best. Their wonton are average but everything else is super Ono.
And make sure to get the BEST BBQ sticks in Oahu, ask for them koge/pepa'a which means they will burn it a bit.

To me "Shoyu" will always refer to Aloha Shoyu type soy sauce whereas "Soy Sauce" to me is more like Kikoman, a more brisk tasting soy sauce.

Amanda and Felix, the new camera allows for wider shots, but I’m not sure about the clarity and vibrant colors. The color doesn’t seem so rich and the clarity isn’t that much “sharper” than your other camera. I’m just being honest. I would expect the picture quality to be tons better with the upgraded camera. Anyhow, I still love just watching you both and your personalities regardless of the camera. Keep making great videos foodie ohana!

@@AmandaFelixEats The more I think about it, I believe it may have been the backlighting of the sun. The new camera has an amazing lens that soaks up a lot more light, so it kind of washed you guys out a bit. Nevertheless, I’m sure you both will continue to learn how to utilize the camera’s settings and work angles that will bring out the best in the equipment. As you stated in the video, it was your first time using it. So it will take time to find out all the cool and awesome things it does. I don’t want to sound critical. I think the new equipment is fantastic, and I want you both to keep making amazing videos. Keep up the great work, and I can’t wait to see your videos get even greater with time and practice with the new camera. KEEP FILMING OHANA!

Can't go wrong with Palace Saimin! I think those prices were very reasonable. Sorry though, but I have to say that something else stole my attention during dessert, and I could not help but focus on it.....the condition of Kaka'ako Waterfront Park! I know we're trying to conserve water, but the park looks horrible!
