    I'm an intermediate learner and can understand long sentences right away- as long as I'm reading it. Listening really hits different... Same with English, which I speak natively. I can't even watch English shows without subtitles because I can't comprehend long words and sentences when they're spoken. Even with practice it's hard for me because I'm a slow person, fast-paced stuff sends me into a panic and in the moment I end up forgetting everything I've learned. I honestly don't know how people do it. It's hard because I love to study languages but I can't understand any of them

    • @stefamii
      @stefamii 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I suggest listening to sentences at a slow pace at first and then eventually working up to a higher level when you feel comfortable. Also, make it a habit to practice everyday and don't get discouraged when you feel you may not be improving as much as you want. I think when you pick out the words that you can actually understand in a sentence, you will realize that you aren't doing that bad. Or, maybe you have the habit of relying on subtitles since you feel so discouraged, which doesn't help you in the long run. I don't know, these are just some of my suggestjons. You may have already tried everything I suggested, but either way, don't give up because I'm sure that you'll improve with time, even if it's slower than others.

    • @deorojeu
      @deorojeu 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@stefamii Thank you for your suggestions. I used to watch k-dramas without subtitles every now and then to practice but I don't know why I quit... I'll try that again to see if I can get any better. It's weird because I can understand Korean much easier when it's spoken to me directly, but not as much when it's recorded.

      @@deorojeu have you tried re-watching a show you might have already watched with English subtitles in Korean? I’ve been studying with TTMIK now for exactly a year next week and I understood half of this “sentence”.
    This motivates me to move from just learning words to start writing sentences because you are so right, I need to learn to connect words together!
    5 stars, 10 out of 10, all the thumbs up!

    I work in a Korean restaurant so it's frequently visited by korean people and today a korean costumer came and started talking to me in korean at the speed of light and I was like "WOWOW WAIT A MINUTE I CAN BARELY UNDERSTAND MY OWN LANGUAGE", so she said "cold" and then I understood that she wanted me to turn off the fan. And in that moment I thought that I should keep studying korean 😹😹 and suddenly this video showed up in my notifications so I think it's destiny. And it's really helpful!! I would love to keep watching these kind of videos so I can understand better to my customers 😹

      Watchu mean characters
      Like individual letters or character blocks
      You do realise that hangul is a legit alphabet right
      Not a logographic system, syllabary, abjad or abugida
      It's incredibly inefficient to memorise blocks given the number of combinations

    • @allied3406
      @allied3406 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    After that i actually gave up and drank coffee😂

  • @stephaniegallentine

    Thank you for this video. The first time I could understand parts but it was so fast lol. When you slowed down I was suprised vocabulary wise I understood most of it. I also liked how this was a kind of shorthand video for remembering linking words in Korean. I too don't vary a lot and need to become more comfortable with differnt linking words. Anyway I really liked this. It was challenging and there was just enough takeaway. 감사합니다!

    These kind of videos are great but what I'd like to see even more is a part 2 (and maybe more) of the "common korean sentence endings" video which is from 2 years ago and one of your most viewed videos. It is one of the best videos about sentence endings because of the way it's condensed but still understandable, I always go back to it!
