AMAZING!!! Thank you so much! This composition is Jimmy's tribute to Dizzy Gillespie. WDR BB rocks in every beat every day. And what a solo and tone for a young happy director of 90yo! Just incredible. (He'd still reach 93) Without them, none of us.
Jimmy is one of the greatest jazz masters of all time. It was a treat for me to get master sax lessons from him years ago when I was attending Jazzmoblie in NYC.
Jimmy Heath was born in October of 1926. In early 1947, he put together his own big band in Philly and he got John Coltrane to join. John was a month older than Jimmy so they were both 20. He also got Charlie Parker to sit in for rehearsals and play a concert with them but Jimmy had to lend him his sax for a week because Parker’s was in the pawn shop. This guy has has been around!
Art! Freedom of expression to create does a body good ! Brings back the old band era when people were out there swinging. You guys are great, leader of the pack I can feel your passion!
J'ai découvert Jimmy Heath la première fois grâce au morceau que j'écoute souvent Bruh Slim avec ma formation préférée :WDR Big Band. Un artiste au sourire lumineux!
I dunno how it's possible. A lot of the older pro's lost their mojo, especially past 80 years old. Johnny Griffin, Jim Hall, and Benny Golson all sound(ed) great--but were past their prime after 80. The Heath brothers... I dunno what it is about them, but they sound as good if not better than during their hard bop heydays. Jimmy plays with such authority and melodicism here that it's almost scary!

When i grow up, I want to be like you Jimmy Heath! I am only 74 now. You are an inspiration, thank you!
All the beauty of a jazz big band. Long live Jimmy !!!

Indeed, - Jimmy was a great musician! It was an honor for us to work with him.
Great tune, masterpiece of a chart. Jimmy is a genius, and an inspiration to us all.

I think the harder the bop was, the smoother you get when it goes back to your essentials
That was fun
Thank you, Duane!
Rest in peace, Jimmy.
