Hey Dan check out Jonathan W channel. He has recently built a 31 5 window and a roadster that were as bad as yours when he started. He changed the dash , made his own interiors, did all the metal fab, they look pretty damn good from what he started with. May give you some ideals

BTW There is no right or wrong way. Original rodders invented their own methods for their creations; doing it your own way honours the tradition.

Good to see a woman learn to use a hammer properly. I enjoy the tv DYI "drama" home improvement shows but turn them off when the co-host is 'pushing in' nails by holding the hammer near the head!

When you're out a Brent's look around for various rounds, fairly heavy wall pipe, different sizes, anything with a curve. Ideally something you can store close yet out of the way (nesting is "perfect"). Looking for curves that you can do some serious hammering on the edge without it collapsing or longer sections you can put slight rolls into sheet metal (Brett uses an old welding tank, find the Barris video where he sets up using three different diameters of pipe with a sheet metal thickness between them). IF you have a stump around (even if its still in the ground) you can put sort of an odd shaped bowl into the top of it, works really well.

You could also add a chrome cap to the edge of the top by making cardboard forms of it ,and taking those to a salvage yard to find used chrome that will fit the contour of you templates. probably 4 straight pieces ,and 4 curved will do the job.

Good to see you have your catchphrase figured out, like all successful TH-camrs:
    Doug Demuro: Thisssss is a...
    DD Dan: Sooooo...
Must be great to have a wife who knows panel beating. Now teach her some welding and you can spend your nights in front of the TV with a beer in the future!
I watched the 1971 movie with your gasser in it again the other day, with James Taylor driving it and one of the Beach Boys wrenching on it. Very cool. Those dudes sure weren't talking much...

You can also use welding magnets and clekos.. Eastwood has them and a lot of metal working tools and youtube tutorials on how to use the bead rollers & blandishing hammers [great for smoothing out metal that you've roughly shaped on a sand bag with a mallet... English wheels are great for stretch shaping but a lot of work gets done with those blandishing hammers in terms of smoothing out shaped metal. Great stuff.

  • @robertgibson88

You can make the top out of boat leather/vinyl ,or even convertible material using quick snaps used for boots to cover convertible tops. Your source for material would be Boat part suppliers ,and could find the fabric at wallmart.

Your coming right around the hardest parts and making it look easy Dan so some of the halfass college took. The door I do believe overlaps the body so it will have some cover for the ah shits and ya ya's make for good video. I have used cardboard templates to make both the same but short of taking a picture, you can't see both sides at once anyhow so why worry about perfect match's! The kid in new york, iron trap garage makes it so hard that he "two blocks" himself all the time. The term "two block" means in tackle blocks with rope to lift something, when the blocks come together then you can't proceed any further hence "two block" as I ware that one out a lot. I watched halfass do the curve in the top of the chopped pontiac and simply just saw through the new metal and the old and tack as he went and then pull the nasty rusty part out and it was a golden moment like "why didn't I ever do that" sorta moment. So I guess this calls for a zip tie and bias ply moment and say oh fuck ya... tits man, cuntint be no fucking better man!/LOL

TAILLIGHTS: '39 Ford or '41 Chevy. 2nd choice are the round '50 Pontiac. What else works?
'Frontenac' somehow you must get that name in sheet metal somewhere on the car. Aluminum door sill covers (stencil w/low pressure sand blast)? Canadian Falcon trunk lettering centered on rear inside cabin wall behind the seats? Etched on the front zee fish plates if exposed in front of the cowl?
No louvers in the lower trunk panel, more in the visor. Rolled rear pan? Straight chrome nerf bar protecting the roll pan /body seam with partial radii returned ends (1 1/4 or 1 1/2 diameter).

I guess you could name the car Mr louver, louver or maybe hole shot, put air ride on it and call it T'baggin. 😆 keep doing what you're doing, enjoy watching
