  • Sorry about the missing troubleshooting for the tuner! footage got corrupted and I attempted recovery but it wasn't having it.
    This started out as what I thought would be a nightmare, but turned out to be something simple.
    Have a look!

    Had a used 1985 Goldstar version with the same knobs and a very touchy VHF tuner back in the early 1990's. Gave it to
    my brother who kept it on channel 3 for the CATV box. He had it another 5 or 6 years.

    It's rare for a tuner to fail completely, they normally get dodgy and become touchy.
    You had a one in a million duff special lol.
    if you didn't replaced the crap caps on the pcb, it would have failed and it would wing it back to you at jet speed lol.

      A customer brings in a real old AM radio and states that it's emitting a offensive fishy smell when turned on. The repair technician reply's back yes when the old American 5 tube radio's age, the capacitors leak and then it smells like the back of a tuna schooner !

    I have a 1976 zenith spirit of 76 portable black and white tv that the picture doesn’t fill out the whole tube. It is not the virt or horizontal hold adjustments. I don’t know if it’s bad capacitors and the values have changed but I’m looking for someone to service it I will pay what I need to within reason. Do you know anyone who would look at it or would you ever accept a viewer set?

      You've got power supply problems if picture won't fill the screen in all directions.
      Yes, I do service sets like yours, but I'm not taking in any new work until further notice. I've just got too many things to fix right now

    Shango always says he doesn't belive in cleaning/rejuvenatiing the crt but you always do it. i gues you agree to disagree

    • @JordanPier
      @JordanPier  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Cleaning and rejuvenation are two very different things.
      Cleaning is a low voltage, higher current which is typically done at rated heater voltage. It decontaminates the cathode without heavily stripping it.
      Rejuvenation is high voltage, low current (80ma or less) for prolonged periods as a last result to reactivate what's left of the cathode. It usually produces short term results and destroys cutoff in exchange for what's left of the emitting surface.
      I will always do a cleaning on a CRT that's in fair shape. If it's good, I won't. I only rejuvenate when emissions is low and cleaning does nothing. - and moreso if I one gun is really weak. If all three are weak I will attempt cleaning and nothing more.
      You can adjust bias if the guns are tired to an extent to balance out the picture. However if one gun is super weak sometimes rejuve is the only way to make it watchable.
