For years I never wore red lipstick Now I have several red lippies and glosses I don't follow any rules and at 72 wear a different colours every day every day I love playing with makeup and thanx to TH-cam learnt how to apply like a pro Fantastic video Gabi
Gabi, you are spot on with the advice that we should apply makeup to suit ourselves. You get a feeling when you’ve done your makeup and then look in the mirror. If it makes you feel confident, it’s a winner. ❤
I love wearing red lipstick! For my cool skin tone the best red shade for me has a blue/pink undertone like berry reds. Gabi, could you do this type of video for pink lipsticks? Thank you much appreciated!
Thanks for sharing!! Yes I can totally do this for pink lipsticks! A pink lipstick guide! You got it! Did you like the photoshop elements? It’s helpful to visualize on different people right?
Same. I need a cool red, one that moves more to a dark raspberry. I’ve layered (mixed) 2~3 lip colors to get the tone I like. I don’t wear it all the time, but it’s been hard to find one I would wear more often. The search continues for me to find my mix in a matching bullet I can buy. 🤷♀
The most helpful lipstick video I've ever seen! The way I prevent smudging and fading--especially when I plan to eat out--is by applying a deep red Wonderskin lip stain. Then I put on my red lipstick, blot it with a tissue, then apply Lip Cote on top. This really works!
I have tried on a number of reds over the years and my chemistry turns them raspberry pink which I have discovered looks better on me anyway. I joke that this is my superpower. I loved this video! I learned so much.
I am darker skin. It is so difficult to find the right red. For me, I have found cranberry colors look best. Thank you for this video! It was so informative. I can't wait to try these new recommendations. I love wearing a matte lip. Every night before bed I wear Nivea lip balm. It's nourishing and keeps my lips from drying out.
You are so welcome! Cranberry on darker skin tones is perfection 🙌🙌🙌 Have you tried any violet based reds? I love those deeply saturated colors on deep skin. It’s so gorgeous.
@GlamGirlGabi No! I haven't tried violet reds. After watching this video I can't wait to try it! Even though I've been wearing a bit of make up since high-school in the 80s🤣, not until watching your videos do I feel a little more comfortable being a bit more daring with other suggested colors. In my search of buying a suitable red lipstick, I've not only wasted a lot of money but also wasn't successful. Now I have better guidance as to color and the why🥰
I needed this so badly. I can finally wear red and I'm putting mine in cart now with the lip liner you suggested. Being in my 60's and I NEVER thought I could wear a red lip. I'm actually so excited. This video was amazing. I love how you showed examples with the photoshop. Thank you so much Gabi.❤❤❤
Thank you for calling us “fair/light” as opposed to “pale” which implies we need to correct our “pale” skin with self-tanner. Great video! I like that there are no rules and for giving us permission to wear what we think looks good despite the guidelines. ❤
I liked this video as I am a visual learner and being able to see the differences was eye opening. I’m a medium warm toned woman and I prefer a blue based red (Ruby Woo 💄) lipstick. I love how white it makes my teeth look and I always get compliments when I wear it.
I discovered something I want to share! I used a photo of my face that i took in the most natural true colour, and on photoshop i clicked on the darkest surface of my lip, and played with tone and brightness and it showed me a med/darker rose-y colour. When i applied to the lip (on the photo), it looked red! MY red, I guess! It wasn't really red, but it LOOKS red on me. About a week later I came across Kackie Reviews Beauty and she did a vid the same way! I am chuffed!
The pictures (brilliant idea) really helped us to see how different red tones looked on different skins. I only wish you had included some suggestions of less expensive lip products because most of your viewers probably don’t wear red lipsticks often enough to justify a big investment. Also, I have aging, dry lips, and haven’t found a lipstick & liner that doesn’t dry them out further and yet lasts past one or two sips or bites of food and drink. I do prep and moisturize the heck out of my lips, but mattes never look great on my lips and creams wear off fast.
I second the suggestion for Rimmel Provocalips - been a long time since I've used it, but I think you may enjoy :) Another option I really love nowadays is the Maybelline Vinyl line. I like Coy as an everyday more natural tone on me (in fact, I've run out of it, used the whole thing!). But they do have some bolder and deeper colors as well - I have one that is more of a deep berry and it also wears well throughout the day... I just don't normally go for anything that "loud" in my everyday makeup.
Always fab tips! ❤ I like the the foundation tip to clean up - rather than concealer. Powder to set lip is good, but my personal favorite is to use an eyeshadow to set. Use a shimmer eyeshadow to give it glossy look. using lipgloss makes lipstick move over time.
I’m 71 yo and still wear red lipstick at times. Also, I found that Lansinoh is the best for keeping lips moist. Yes, Lansinoh is found in the baby department because it is used to help nursing mothers. Works on lips too!😂 I appreciate these tips, especially over lining. Thanks Gabi!
My Mother always wore red lipstick and Beautiful red nail polish and fingernails that were long and real! Wore Elizabeth Taylor’s eyebrows that were drawn on by her! Black hair and a very BEAUTIFUL WOMAN! 🎄☃️🎄
Red lipstick is my life. That’s all I wear. Now I have to run to get the Valentino one you are wearing. You look stunning! I already have the 22R but in mini because it was a gift with purchase from Nordstrom. I like the formula but I do find it more on the pink side like you said. I like more pure blue red. I also like orange red a lot but only in summer time.
I love wearing red lipstick! My skin is light neutral so I can wear warm or cool reds. Berry Reds make my green eyes really stand out. American Beauty, Forever Red and Victory Red by Besame, 22R by Valentino, Ruby Woo by Mac, Red Revival by Maybelline, Super Red and Cherries In The Snow by Revlon, Red Door Red by Elizabeth Arden and Le Rouge by YSL are some of my favorites. The Besame lipsticks last the longest on my lips and fade evenly to a lip stain after many hours. Thank you for your informative and enjoyable videos.
This is the second time you've come through for me in a huge way with your tips. After looking for years, I found TWO reds today that actually work for me! Thank you!!!
You are killing it lately! I love this video because I’ve been trying to wear red lipstick but I couldn’t figure out how to wear it. BTW you look gorgeous!
Thank you for this amazing educational video! I know it took time for you to plan and execute it in a way that you could visually show us examples of each undertone and skin combos! I feel I went to "class" today! And, learned some valuable information for this merry season! Great job!
Love this! As a visual learner, this really helped show the difference between cool vs. warm on all skin tones. A question though, I am fair/medium (Eastern European), my lips are naturally a deeper plum pinkish color. How to account for how lip color changes the undertone of a lipstick? Also, thank you for showing colors on older women, such as myself (57), we are often overlooked.
Love this Gaby. I’m forever searching for the ‘perfect’ red and I think I found mine today…I’ve just bought Chanel Rouge Coco Bloom in shade 138: Vitalité. It goes on a dream, is highly pigmented and very forgiving to an older lip line ❤️
I never wore red lipstick because I didn’t think it suited me but I bought a red sweater for a Christmas party and I needed an alternative to my signature pink lip. I’m a cool tone fair blond with blue eyes. I bought the lipstick and lip liner Gabi recommended. I had SO many compliments!!! Thank you SO much for the wonderful advice!!!
I LOVE RED LIPSTICKS!!! I bought the full-size Valentino Rossa because Sephora had it at half price! I’m looking forward to wearing it! Another new red lipstick find is Lisa Etheridge’s Luxuriously Lucent lipstick in the shade Palazzo!💋
I have always loved red lipstick and wear it all the time even at 72. Great video! My best red is a discontinued Buxom - Baller. It is the perfect red for me.
Red looks fabulous on you as you have generous lips and a wide mouth. I still say red lipstick does not suit me as my mouth is not wide enough and when I apply it the colour just makes my mouth look smaller and it looks too severe. So I’ll stick to my peach and nude lipsticks but I say to anyone if you can make a red lipstick work, go for it!🥰💜
Yes! Hardly anyone talks about the ratio of lips to the rest of the face. If you have a very small mouth or thin lips, red just makes you look severe or like you're pursing your lips. Likewise, if someone has a crooked smile or issues with their lip shape, red is their worst enemy because it will highlight it. You need nicely-shaped full lips or your lips need to take up space on your face to wear red.
Hey Gabi, you look stunning in your red lipstick. You always look stunning. Thank you so much for these great tips/guide. I have always been afraid to wear red lipstick but I think I might just give it a try now that I think I know what color red to go for. Happy Holidays.
Every time I wear my Mac that Matt it’s pulls pink but red I get so many compliment. I agree I’m light skin and warm red or orange colors dont look good on me
Would love to see the accompanying video in how to do the rest of the makeup to complement the red lip. I bought a few reds a couple of years ago. I am comfortable with wearing the balm, the lip oil and the pinky red but this season I want to do the true red in an effortless clean look where the lips are the focal point.
Oooh that is the BEST LOOK. I can definitely do that. I find makeup tutorials don’t always perform super well when I do them on myself but if there is demand, I can definitely do it!
Great video❤ Enjoy wearing red, the shade will make or break the look. I love blue red, I'm fair. I generally wear during the entire Holiday season. LOVE RED LIPSTICK 😊
Love the video…I love red lips on others but I *really* can’t wear red. First, I don’t like the color red 😂 I’ve tried in the past and bought so many and donated them all. I even did it again this week! I’m a light summer, cool blonde+blue eyes. I’m sure there is a red tone that could work but my lips aren’t symmetrical so it makes my mouth look awful! I know my strengths and a nude lip is it. But love it on all of you! ❤
@@valletta5767 You can make lips look more symmetrical with carefully balancing them with lip liner. It takes practice but it does work. Maybe practice by drawing on paper first?
Gabi, you're so beautiful! Thank you for these tutorial makeup videos. I learned so much from you. I love red lipstick, but I never looked good wearing it. Now I have some guidelines I can follow. I can't wait to get started.
Great video! I love the topic of red lips! I wish more people I see in the real world would wear red (or bold in general) lips as it's stunning, I try to do my part lol.
@GlamGirlGabi I have textured skin as I suffered from acne in my younger years, so sometimes putting on colourfull make up feels a bit too much and drawing attention where i dont want , but I love red lippie, always have done x
@@GlamGirlGabi Absolutely this totally helped me anyways! You can go red with a little pink or you can go red with a little orange and I just found a neutral red. Because like you mentioned there are NO rules when it comes to being the best version of yourself!❤
I LOVE red lipstick and pretty much always wear it unless it's a complete clash with my clothing. And if my nails didn't grow too fast to keep them polished, they'd be red, too! Years ago I did a little modeling and a color specialist demonstrated how blue-red is best for me. I can clearly see the difference in the shades.
@@georgiafrye2815 Pink = red + white. Pinky red does not mean anything, as it all depends on what kind of red the white has been mixed with. The different kinds of red are - pure red - reds mixed with yellow (orangy reds) - would give an orangy pink - reds mixed with blue (purply reds) - would give a purply pink. Look at the color wheel.
For a purple-leaning red, try Diva, by MAC. It's a classic for a reason. There's a matching lipliner to go with it, and several that are darker if you want more definition. Likewise, Lisa Eldridge Velvet Midnight is a spectacular dark, but cool-leaning burgundy.
Awesome video 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻. I'm blonde and have fair skin and green eyes, but prefer the cool red colors (that Valentino 507R is stunning!). Pinks and oranges don't work for me 🤷🏼♀️ and finding more "plum" colors is difficult. Greetings from Argentina 🇦🇷
Thank you so much Gabi!!! I found the perfect red for me although mine was a drugstore option. L’Oreal 300 for the very light olive skin girls.❤💃 I followed all of your instructions. My red lips lasted for six hours, Before I had to reapply!! So now that that’s done, can we discuss the blouse you’re wearing? ?? ❤🖤 It is so gorgeous! I can’t see all of your blouse, but I know that I love it already lol ❤ thank you in advance!🙏🏻
I am so glad you made this video. I so long to wear red lipstick. I have an average bottom lip and a very thin upper lip, and that has made me very self-conscious about wearing lip color of any kind, let alone red. I know you mentioned going outside the lines a bit, but do you have any other tips for very thin lips?
Yes - so in this case you will want to over-line the cupids bow but stay within the bottom lip line to balance out the shape. The top lip should always be slightly smaller than the bottom lip but try to balance them as best as you can. Another tip is to fill the entire lip area in with the lipliner and then go on top with your lipstick. If you’re over lining, this will help camouflage that completely and make your lips look like their naturally that size and shape.
Oh my gosh, Gabi! I saw the title of your video & had to click! I say this all the time - red lipstick doesn’t look good on me! I always feel like a “fraud” wearing red lipstick, as I have thin lips. (But I love a red lip on other women.) lol
Great video Gabi thank you! Loved the pics of different tones combined with seeing real recommended shades applied on you. I’m fair toned and bought two new reds this year I’m loving- Armani lip maestro satin 10 and ysl pur couture R1966- both not matte and more moisturizing than a matte but perform really well on me even without liner! Just a suggestion for the more shiny lovers - though I love a matte too and now need to try one of those valentinos- they all looked stunning on you!
Excited to try this. However it's never been me who has been against my wearing red lipstick, but almost every man in my life has hated red lipstick, and I don't have a type. All my partners have been drastically different from one another
Great video regarding wearing red lip am medium tan. Prefer red towards berry pink. But I will try a warmer red just to see. Like shiny side but your suggestion about bleeding lipstick on lips preventing is excellent idea. Thank you ❤ merry Christmas
Draga Gabi, danas si stvarno divno našminkana❤. Tvoja su videa uvijek jako inspirativna. Dok sam bila mlađa znala sam staviti crveni ruž, ali otkad sam navršila 40. izbjegava la sam ga koristiti. Idući tjedan imam neku svečanu večeru pa ću probati❤❤❤❤❤
so with applying the lipstick itself, do you apply directly from the bullet? i usually find that this technique makes the lipstick look patchy on me so i usually use a lip brush. what's the best way with applying the lipstick that results in even, smooth color?
I have fair skin, but a warm undertone. Understand that pinky cold tones is not for me was a long story. Now I know that coral and cinnamon ones are best for me even though I am pale. Check always your undertone!❤ It really makes a difference. Also the general contrast of your face features. If you have great contrast (like very dark brows) darkest colours and mate are best. If you have low contrast go for less bold shades. 😊
Love this - please do a video with budget red lipstick options 💋
Oh that’s a good idea. That would be a really good short.

Your makeup looks impeccable!! ❤
Thank you!
What about olive skin? I know red is the opposite of green so would I just go for like a true true red?
Thanks Gabi. Very informative and I’m going to glean some of your insights into my red lip applications.
I’m so glad you found it useful! ❤️
Thank you sooooo much!!!!! Yes great holiday info! Happy Holidays❤
You’re so welcome! Happy Holidays to you too! 💖
Great video! I love the topic of red lips! I wish more people I see in the real world would wear red (or bold in general) lips as it's stunning, I try to do my part lol.
This was awesome!! Great timing for holidays!! Loved the photo shop examples! Happy holidays to you and yours!!
I'm always very confused if warm or cold suits me best. You are amazing
Did this video help a little? Honestly - whatever you put on and think “I feel pretty in this” - then that is what suits you.
@GlamGirlGabi I have textured skin as I suffered from acne in my younger years, so sometimes putting on colourfull make up feels a bit too much and drawing attention where i dont want , but I love red lippie, always have done x
@GlamGirlGabi it has, there are no rules, really, so good to know I don't need to follow anything or anyone, just to find what I like, for me only
@@KasiaP1982 absolutely! NO RULES. Whatever feels good is the right thing. It’s a “feeling”.
@@GlamGirlGabi
Absolutely this totally helped me anyways! You can go red with a little pink or you can go red with a little orange and I just found a neutral red. Because like you mentioned there are NO rules when it comes to being the best version of yourself!❤
Yay my video request! Thanks Gabi!❤
Love this video! Would you please give us affordable red lip options, especially the deeper red. It looked amazing on you!!
I’ll have to check for some good drugstore reds, I’ll make a note!
Thank you so much, Miss Gabi!!!! Do you have any drug store options for colors??? Happy Holidays to you and yours!!
Such an amazing and educational video Gabi, thank you so much! ❤🎉
I am so happy that you found this helpful Erika! ❤️
Thank you ❤ Beautiful lady, a breath of fresh air to see you and your humor.
Thank you so much for the timestamps!!!
Never use a red lipstick before 😮 kind of scary to try 😅 might have to look into different shades of red for me to try 😊thanks for sharing Gabi 😊
❤needed this and loved it❤ thanks mrs. Glam girl🤗
Great video! The information you presented was extremely helpful!
I'm so happy that this video was helpful for you!
This was such an awesome, helpful video!! Thank you so much!💖
I'm so glad it was helpful! 💖
Very well done, Gabi! I always like orange base red but since my hair is silver I have liked more pinky reds.
@@georgiafrye2815 Pink = red + white. Pinky red does not mean anything, as it all depends on what kind of red the white has been mixed with. The different kinds of red are
- pure red
- reds mixed with yellow (orangy reds) - would give an orangy pink
- reds mixed with blue (purply reds) - would give a purply pink.
Look at the color wheel.
Great video, loved the color suggestions! Tips were wonderful too!
I’m so happy that this video was helpful for you Jody! That makes my day.
I loved this. You are such an expert.
I appreciate you so, so much !
I never wear red but I sure want to try now, such a great video!!!
Wow thank you, I am 41 and understand red lipstick for the first time!
Great video love the tutorial on wearing red lipstick will try it out.
Yay! I’m so happy that you will be trying it out!
Thank you so much Gabi!!! I found the perfect red for me although mine was a drugstore option. L’Oreal 300 for the very light olive skin girls.❤💃
I followed all of your instructions. My red lips lasted for six hours, Before I had to reapply!!
So now that that’s done, can we discuss the blouse you’re wearing? ?? ❤🖤
It is so gorgeous! I can’t see all of your blouse, but I know that I love it already lol ❤ thank you in advance!🙏🏻
This is extremely helpful! Thank you ❤
I'm so glad it was helpful!
I ❤ a good warm tone red on me.
@@hearsthewater I have the same « problem » and make my lips bigger with lip pencil. No problem at all.
@GlamGirlGabi ,thank you very much, thats exactly what i would like to know ❤
Thank you for question, have same problem!❤
Oh my gosh, Gabi! I saw the title of your video & had to click! I say this all the time - red lipstick doesn’t look good on me! I always feel like a “fraud” wearing red lipstick, as I have thin lips. (But I love a red lip on other women.) lol
Love the blouse-where did you get it? Thanks Gabi!
I actually got it about ten years ago in a second hand shop!
I love pink lipstick too!! I like berry pinks( not too dark)! Look good on medium shade of pink.
@@booklover6154 Pink = red + white, it is not red
Excited to try this. However it's never been me who has been against my wearing red lipstick, but almost every man in my life has hated red lipstick, and I don't have a type. All my partners have been drastically different from one another
Maybe they are worried they will be wearing it if you are. Setting the lips can help to minimize transfer.
Great video regarding wearing red lip am medium tan. Prefer red towards berry pink. But I will try a warmer red just to see. Like shiny side but your suggestion about bleeding lipstick on lips preventing is excellent idea. Thank you ❤ merry Christmas
I love how you’re experimenting with different reds! Happy Holidays!
Draga Gabi, danas si stvarno divno našminkana❤. Tvoja su videa uvijek jako inspirativna. Dok sam bila mlađa znala sam staviti crveni ruž, ali otkad sam navršila 40. izbjegava la sam ga koristiti. Idući tjedan imam neku svečanu večeru pa ću probati❤❤❤❤❤
so with applying the lipstick itself, do you apply directly from the bullet? i usually find that this technique makes the lipstick look patchy on me so i usually use a lip brush. what's the best way with applying the lipstick that results in even, smooth color?
thank you ! which eyeshadow do you wear ? it looks stunning
@@ina4924 Too much is too much. Bright red lips, no eye shadow - unless you want to look like a hooker.
@@solangelauthier2381 oh so you're giving advices? to someone YOU'VE NEVER MET?????
I LOVE this video!!
I love my blue based red. I have medium skin tone with neutral undertone.
