The show is actually co-created by a father and daughter duo, and the daughter is like 19, so that definitely helps with the teen believability. Honestly that was what appealed to me most. The teens were acting dumb and messy in the exact way teens do and yet they also had agency, like their problems weren’t being trivialized. And that was so refreshing.
I'm literally obsessed with generation it was like not trying so hard to make it retable like shows who overexaggerate drug use and sex or make it seem like all kids do nowadays is text using only emojis and overuse of slang and Snapchat filters. Was it melodramatic sometimes yea ofc the average high schooler doesn't have a kid in a bathroom. but aside from that, it felt very natural.
I feel like Sam should have clocked Chester way earlier. Chester was flirting from episode 1 and Sam shoulda said to stop right then and there. I'm glad it didn't go any further than it did but Sam could of done more.
Part 1 Ariana was the worst (could not deal with the homophobia), but Part 2 Ariana was a vast improvement. Honestly Part 2 as a whole was a big improvement on the show. I went from writing this show off to needing a Season 2.
I loved how they handled the student-teacher relationship in this show. When I was in school I have actually witnessed someone crush on a teacher and stalk them; luckily, it turned out the same way in the show. So, having that relationship there isn't romantic or unbelievable. I think it was good for them to clearly show that it was wrong. Also, I think the relationship was always seen from Chester's perspective. Chester's character is dreamy, idealistic, and a bit egotistical. The whole time he had a delusion that Sam was being nice to him because he liked him romantically when in reality he was just doing what a guidance counselor should do. That part where he said "I wouldn't choose you" solidified the fact that it was all Chester's fantasy and that Sam has a life outside his school duties
its just so refreshing watching a show that doesnt try to jampack all of these extreme circumstances on these teens, like too many of these shows focus way too much on the sex and the drugs, but w generation its literally just relationship issues and mental health which i appreciate bc it seems like these writers think everyday teen problems are boring, like not all the time do teens hv to witness a murder or get caught up in addiction to hv their world feel like its ending, sometimes all it takes is getting rejected
Or sexual assult, no need for it to be there always, and I understand why it is there but ONLY if it’s not so fucking graphic, like why, what’s the purpose?
the thing about naomi imo is she's really a child! and can't handle the problems presented in this show. like teens mature at different paces and that's why we have ppl like riley who have been forced to handle themselves as full adults and then there's naomi. who is very clearly a pampered 14 year old. idk if she's 14 but mentally yeah. also everything you said about nathan.... yes. that family is such a trainwreck but it makes perfect sense, very well written
This girl i knew was actively trying to pursue her math teacher .. we were seniors and he was kinda young but still, girl..... she would tell me about her emailing him bc all the teachers have those school emails .... WILD!!!!! tried to talk her out of it but she wasn't trying to listen to me
everyone in this show needs therapy but if I had to pick someone (regardless of race cause otherwise I always prioritize POC) I would choose Nathan. That man needs help and a hug
I love both Greta and Riley but Riley is very much a firework show. With a short end on each firework. Her downfalls came fast and with many. Greta is much more of an avalanche where you nor her really acknowledge how much snow is on the edge until it eventually falls. Both of them have went through so much and I want nothing but the best for them! 💕
I only wish that the poc characters got more screen time like Delilah and J they ending of ep 8 was all about their child yet we learnt little to nothing about them and we were supposed to be so engaged at this point. I’m happy Chester gets his screen time and (I forgot her name) got some after like 10 episodes but I wish the others did (idk if this makes sense it’s 11pm where I am In tired sorry haha) Also I loveee the portrayal of wlw couples I just wish they would communicate more but yolo they’re gonna get together anyway so yay. Now I wish there was a darkskin female/ feminine presenting character who would be a love intrest cuz they did the only black girl dirty by having her bf actually like someone else and then her best friends ditch her for a boy (I do love him tho).
Spoiler Warning Included, but I have a few hot takes about LGBT PoC Couples and how there is always a white person thrown into the mix because one PoC gay in a couple is enough for the industry Hmm i see this in Love Victor and I am seeing it now in Generation. Actually, I have seen it in many places, but I wonder why when it comes to gay guys in television and movies. Its usually always between a pair of white men orrrr one white man and a man of color. If a relationship were to happen between two gay PoC that are men it's always during an awkward predicament or they break up. They are hardly ever the endgame and it intrigues me on why this has yet to happen. For one it would certainly help with the internalized homophobia and discriminatory notions that Gay PoC can have for each other. As a black guy I can only speak on the Black Gay Community, but it's fucked up being told straight to one's face from another black guy you don't date us. Or better yet the colorist notions when it comes to two gay PoC couples at times. Although I find generation to be a well-written story as a film/tv lover and film student. Its disheartening....Lol I can be reading way too much into this, because I'm sad af about Bo and Chester

I wanna see a variety of black people, and the audience should get the hint that lgbt poc couples exist. Bisexual black girl who isn't seen as "promiscuous, aggressive, mean," who's feminine and dates another black girl......sounds pretty nice. Nothing wrong with being sexually active, I just wanna tone down the stereotype that bisexuality=promiscuity
i agree cause although i love euphoria’s cinematography and i think the acting in that show is incredible… it’s just too much for a show that’s supposed to be set in high school 😭 and i love that generation is the complete opposite of that in terms of its characters, plot lines and overall ambience with the show still being very entertaining

its one of the more realistic teen shows i've seen of generation z teenagers and im saying this as a gen z teenager. its not too realistic to the point where its super heavy but it's relatable to things we go through. they take something serious and make it a little more funny
