- The video gives insights in the excellent making of a M7 bagpipe out of blackwood and hand engraved sterling silver parts by the master craftsman Ian D Murray. The bagpipe is played the first time by Glenn Ross (a member of the Field Marshal Montgomery Pipe Band), as shown in the last part of the video. Thank you very much Ian for this masterpiece and Glenn for your dedicated playing... the sound pattern of the instrument and all your efforts are overwhelming... Christoph
Little Spree is a great sounding piobaireachd.... love it. And great craftmanship
A pure delight watching a fine craftsman at work! Truly a pleasure. Cheers from Canada
Awesome work! From Brazil, great!
Absolutely Amazing ! - Thank You...
Ok now we are duly impressed! Love to hear the bagpipes, but never seen one actually being made. The craftsmanship is stunning, well done!
Its great to get an insight into a masterpiece. thanks Ian. They look and sound great.
Great resonance on the drones and the chanter was clear and crisp. Truly a superior set of bagpipes.
He makes an outstanding set of pipes.
Thank you, from the deep of my hearth, to your kindness, sharing between your mates and fellow cimrafes, this so respectfull art to building an thrue Highland bag pipe!!! All my respect and strong hugs from Maringa, state of Parana, South Brazil!!!
Mad skills sir. Peeling away the layers meticulously like that is a measure of patience seldom encountered.
Beautiful work. Nice to see, how it's done. And what a great sound.
Amazing craftsmanship, and great sound.
Nice to watch a craftsman at work. The intricate use of the tooling is fascinating! Thank You!
Thanks!… Indeed I really enjoy the instruments made by Ian such as the bagpipe and a practice chanter and his personality as well… you are welcome!
I tell ya, I play the Little Spree in Solos, and I've played it all the way into the open, and hearing you play it was the first time I heard it telling the story. Fantastic!
Wow, that was fantastic, and he makes it look so easy.
Great video!
That's craftsmanship at its best
The Little Spree - An Daorach Bheag - a wonderful way to christen a set of pipes.
Awesome, but I noticed the video had something missing,... the chanter.
wondering what the RPM he's turning at during this. As a woodturner I'm deeply interested in all of this
Whoever sang the song "Caledonia" in this song TOTALLY murdered one of the most beautiful of all Scottish songs of all!!!
It's sung by Dougie MacLean - he composed the song ............... none better.
Excellent video. Is Ian still making pipes? I believe Ian was a turner for Gillander & McLeod, is that correct?
Sharing with your fellows comrades, (errata) thanks a lot one more time!!!
il be ordering a set soon :D
Awesome...
Why do you have to add music to the video? The sound of the machine and the tools are the 'music' I want to hear.
Still have my set made in 2002. M3 model.
nice make pipe
nice craftsmanship ! Question : does the drones thickness modulation of the outside diameter ( the inside diameter being cylindrical) impacts the sound in any way (if so in which way?) or is it purely decorative ?thanks
Amazing video. One false move when making those beadings, and the whole piece is ruined. I recently acquired some laburnum and when researching what I can turn with it, I was interested to hear that in Scotland pipes were sometimes made with this wood...and yet it is toxic! Anybody able to provide any more information on this please?

What is the name of the tune that starts a 15:05?
In the video, there is often a piece of sandpaper showing - for example, at or just after 2:55. What's happening when you are doing this - cleaning the tool?
