which is smart of him, not only he successfully help a fellow craftsman he also made two these two shops become an attraction which wouldn't have worked as well if he's the only one on that street
I played in an all girls Pipe Band in Canada. One of the founders was an aunt, in 1940's
I still have my Lawrie pipes with Ivory trim and a MacGregor Tartan cover on my bag. My bag is leather. They are terrible to keep supple and seasoned. Best time of my life on parade, especially playing in a mass band with all the bands from a Highland games

Jenna Bagpipes it was the Georgetown Girls Pipe Band from Georgetown Ontario Canada.

a lot of people suggest start a youtube channel to make that youtube/paetron money but what you gotta understand, is learning how to film yourself takes talent itself. I tried filming myself drawing to see if I could make some speed drawing videos, and just to get the right camera angle, good lighting and what not, takes a lot of time if you don't know what your doing. Then that's just the fliming part, the process of uploading, the process of editing, is a whole other craft. and Until you get enough money for a editor, you have to do it all yourself.

As a Scotsman, of course I love the bagpipes. BUT! One bagpipe playing is just torture. There needs to be an army of pipers to play at the same time to really feel the power they wield.

one pipe is not torture if its someone like Stuart Liddell, Jack Lee, Bruce Gandy, Finlay Johnston, Callum Beaumont, Roddy MacLeod, Angus MacColl, Iain Speirs, Willie McCallum, Connor Sinclair. most of the world think this way as well because they heard "a piper" or someone who is learning the pipes but not quite yet "a Piper"

@@kunaljha5432 the two biggest cities Edinburgh and Glasgow are popular, there's some other cool places in the central belt, such as the firth of forth, if you go up further north there's lovely scenic areas like Glencoe and lots of wee islands, depends how far you travel. I think everyone goes to Loch Ness because of the "monster" but there's other lovely lochs and rivers :)
Last used in World War 2? The 1st Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders used Bagpipes during the Battle of the Crater in the Aden Emergency in 1967.
African Blackwood is my favorite lumber. Makes beautiful knife scales, and beautiful well, beautiful everything, really.

As an American military musician, bagpipes have always been a magical part of tattoos, ceremonies, and funerals. The tradition is so rich and I’m glad to see the artisanship continue with hand crafting these fine instruments. Keep up the good work! I hope you still enjoy dabling here and there and haven’t given up playing with your mates completely. Someday I’ll have some time to learn the pipes. It’s on my bucket list.

Military musicians are a vital part of the impression made on civilians about our military, they embody and represent the professionalism, discipline, and skill that define the US military as much as any USMC Silent Drill Platoon, or the Sentinels at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. They should be regarded with pride by their fellow servicemen and countrymen.

@@pimpmykek3213 Not so many by hand. Many of the pipes you buy now have plastic drones and chanters as well, my old set did and that was 40 years ago now. My pipe major had a beautiful set of wooden pipes and the difference in sound was incredible.
Call me weird but, I love the sound of bagpipes. This was so great to see. I went to a military school in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin that had some bagpipe players in the school band. There is a guy who plays in the park in the summer. When I hear bagpipes, it makes me stop dead in my tracks. Hearing bagpipes makes me feel Scottish. Thank you.

I'm a proud stewart in the states who was married with bagpipes, buried both my parents with bagpipes and recently watched 30 bagpipers lead my daughter in a graduation ceremony...I too will be buried with such honors! God bless you two owners for such dedication to your craft!

In HS we had to choose an instrument we would like to work on, while we were attending the school. I choose the bagpipe because it annoyed everyone. And i weirdly, kinda liked it..

One of the things I've learned in the pandemic is that a face mask is great for keeping one's breath warm on cold days. No struggling with keeping a scarf or muffler in place!
A woolen face mask sounds just about ideal for winter. The smell of wet wool is actually very nice, I think.

The sound of bagpipes let's me know I'm home in Cape Breton. They used to play as you drove onto the island on speakers lol its in so much of our music. Would love to visit Scotland one day.

As a piper, there’s certainly nothing wrong with high quality CNC machine-lathed pipes, but I love seeing these artisans still running and making high quality pipes with perfect pitch and tone. It certainly helps keep the soul alive in piping. Great video, awesome shop.

My Father and his Regiment (2nd Btn Glasgow Highlanders the 9th Highland Light Infantry) were piped ashore by the Regimental Piper at Arromanches on the 17th June 1944.
i dont know how it reached here....but bagpipe is played since long in our villages in Indian hilly state in himalayas....its melodious....however not played in most of british ruled India...
They also have bagpipes in Northern Spain, Asturias & Galicia. Left over from the Celtics.

They also used to be played all over Europe throughout the middle ages
Glad to see that even a master at the lathe still has an occasional hang up, makes me feel better about my skills. Lol
I still don’t understand why turning wood blanks between centers with no lathe dog is so common. I chuck one end. If you tighten it up you risk splitting the blank, especially if you’ve drilled a hole all the way through it to make a bagpipe part, loosen up and you stop the work constantly, take light cuts to keep from stopping it and it takes forever to turn it round.

Also music instruments where used for communication on the battlefield, sounds weird but it´s an effective way to get over all the screaming.

I have a kilt outfit from Gordon Nicholson which is absolutely amazing. They now make the Sgian Dubh (sock knife) handles with offcuts from the Kilberry bagpipes. Both my brother and I have Kilberry Sgian dubhs with our kilts now. So glad these crafts are kept alive and you will not regret spending your money on either Gordon Nicolson or Kilberry products!

I'm Scottish, I'm from Edinburgh and I never knew this story, it's braw to see such a great community support each other and continue these banging traditions. I've always loved the bagpipes and I love wearing my Edinburgh handmade kilt, may they never disappear.
The lone piper in the hills is a wonderful sound- stirs the soul, although I know there are many who'd disagree! It is so good to know that the traditions are being upheld. Thank you.

Same! We had a marching band - they started us out with flutes and then we graduated to bagpipes lmao. It was amazing honestly - I still love flutes and would absolutely buy a bagpipe when I have the cash for it.
I am an wood turner. I also admire and respect bagpipers. I took bagpipe lessons after my Dad died. A piper played at Dad’s memorial. I’m afraid I did not pursue my lessons. I wish I had. I’m too old now to learn, but I certainly admire and respect bagpipers. The evening piper at Spanish Bay in Pebble Beach, California is always my favorite time with a pint.

No instrument makes me as emotional as a bagpipe och preferably, many. Born far from Scotland, but went there early in life on a summer long language course. Probably the love for bagpipes started then. Thanks for sharing the hard work that goes into making one.

The Claymore maker is Paul MacDonald, who is across town from these guys.
A close friend of mine it's a Mexican bagpipe maker. He specializes in Asturian Bagpipes. I think he went to Edinburgh a couple of times to learn from the Masters.

Last?Bagpipes are also traditional to the people in the Balkans amongst other instruments for example in Bosnia called Gajde,Gusle,and many many more .Traditional making of these instruments is still ongoing with each generation picking it up and carrying it to the next.Glad to see Scotland holding on to its traditions.Much love and respect from Bosnia
Yes, bagpipes were apparently widespread folk instrument. I heard of them in Scandinavia and the Baltic countries. Their existence in the Balkans is very interesting.

Have just acquired a set with the brass and boxwood mounts.Enjoying them. Brought them off a guy in Scotland who had them from new,only about 2 years old. Nice tone good feel look forward to years of enjoyment with them.They live in the office with a 170 year old set of McDougalls, my other pride and joy.
