Douglas uses the term "Judeo-christian" as an excuse to be a bigot.
Many of his criticism after that become social and not religious in nature, and appear to me to be more like dog whistles to bigots than any intellectual debate.
It means he doesn't upset the Jews or Christians, can criticise Islam... but claim to be atheist.
He is a used car salesman with a posh accent. Grifter.

So simple, creeds, scrolls, bible, Jesus, God. Not false stories, false notes, a false book, a false main character, and lastly a false creator. Is clearly an understanding of nothing. They Baffle with waffle. The truth will come clear if you keep things simple, not with pompous dialectical dialogue.

Here we go again-Peterson’s overcomplicating things. Instead of getting straight to the point, he dives into complex and abstract arguments that end up confusing the issue more than clarifying it. What could have been a straightforward discussion about the balance between rationality and tradition gets tangled in layers of philosophical nuance. It’s frustrating because this is such a familiar pattern with him-what should be a direct conversation often turns into an intellectual detour, pulling us away from the main point.

  • @naayou99

1:54 here is JP's biggest misrepresentation, if not a lie. Democracy and freedom of thought where already known to the Greeks. in fact to the Roman Republic was a democracy. When Peterson said "Democracy emerged from the Judeo-Christian tradition" I had to replay that part to make sure I heard correctly. That was such a mind-bogglingly inaccurate thing to suggest that I was sure there was more context to it, but there doesn't appear to be. I wonder if Sam ignored it because he suspected some sort of attempt by Peterson to detail the conversation into his typical redefinitional pedantry.

Setting aside the historical fact that democracy was conceptualized, organized, and practice in Ancient PAGAN Greece and not in either Bronze age Israel or post-Edict of Milan Roman Empire Europe, why did it take the better part of 1800 years for Judeo Christian tradition to make a dent in the political structures of Western Europe? That seems like a hell of long learning curve.
And even if we were to properly steel-man Peterson's argument and locate superficial aspects of Judeo-Christian teaching that find parallels in our democratic institutions, then are we sure one could not also locate similarly shallow and potentially coincidental patterns of poli-social influence in, say, the Althing of Viking/Norse tradition, or the patterns of representative leadership among tribal councils among Native American tribes?

Jordan believes that democracy grew out of the Judea-Christian “substrate”. There is nothing democratic about the Judea-Christian substrate. • @donnievance1942
      @donnievance1942 หลายเดือนก่อน

I've said for many years that the Abrahamic religions provide a paradigm of all reality as a hierarchical system. The classic Augustinian "great chain of being" is a way of ranking all beings in an order from the least to the greatest, with God obviously being on top. Not only that, but it describes the relations of all these beings as a system in which each level of the chain must take orders from above and has the right to dictatorially rule all those below. Ownership and slavery is integral to this system. God is above and more worthy than men, who are above other classes of men, who are above women, who are above children, who are above animals, etc. There's nothing suggesting democracy in it. It's the diametric opposite of that. It stands in stark contrast to many indigenous world-views in which all types of beings are brothers and sisters and understood to be equally conscious and worthy. Authoritarian governments and monarchies love Christianity and Islam. They provide the model and rationale for domination, rule, and exploitation. Anyone with half a brain can see that, and that the Abrahamic religions are, in fact, the creation of such systems of domination.

As far as Peterson describes the process by which “something emerged,” that is, the historical interaction between the “poetic” and the “rational,” he is not committing any genetic fallacy. Neither is infusing the “poetic” with Judeo-Christian content a problem as long as you can discriminate its effects from those of other types of poetic content. You can do that in all sorts of ways, most obviously through comparative analysis.

There is hardly any truth in Christianity except for a few verses. It's mythical, fictional, and fantasy. Being a traditional Christian can lead to personal suffering, and imposing Christianity on humanity leads to suffering for humanity. The God of Christianity is just three Jewish men claiming divinity, which is not a true concept of God. The concepts of hell, heaven, the last days, judgment, resurrection, and salvation, as described in the Bible or Quran, do not exist in reality.

Agreed, except for the 3 Jewish men being the Christian God. Yahweh has roots in older pre-Israelite gods that have gradually merged. Jesus is never quoted as saying he is a god, only the son of one... though nothing of what Jesus is supposed to have said or done can be verified. He too may be a merging of several messianic preachers of the time.

Even had Jesus existed ... as a Jewish Rabbi ... he would not have preached any version of Christian doctrine ... so why does Jordan bother droning on and on and on about the Jesus' myth?
The supposed savior of souls of Christians, was just the most recent savior-myth story. Example as follows, and please note how Chrishna was spelled, before the Christians came up with the word Christ, and how the Hindus then changed the spelling of their supposed savior to "Krishna."
From the book … The World’s Sixteen Crucified Saviors … Christianity before Christ, by Kersey Graves … first published in 1875.
and finally these twenty Jesus Christs (accepting their character for the name) laid the foundation for the salvation of the world, and ascended back to heaven.

Children are born without any systems of belief, and then are programmed to the most outlandish conflicting ways of believing.
You might find of interest the following points of view from the book ... The Atheist Muslim ... author ... Ali A. Rizvi ... "To me, this correlation was fast becoming obvious. If you were handed a book at birth with all the answers to everything, what incentive would you have to ask questions, especially if asking questions could land you in jail or get you killed for blasphemy?
The conventional wisdom was that Islam is a religion of peace, and it's the people distorting it that are the problem. However, to the "new atheists"--as they came to be known--it was the other way around. Islam itself was a problem; most Muslims around the world are moderate, but the author of the Quran clearly wasn't."

@@shaneyule3484 As were other groups of religionists ... Jews (Hebrews) were at one time all polytheists, with belief in many gods. So there wasn't any reason to fight over being favorites of the gods, as the story-tellers in all religious groups could fire and create new gods.
It was when one group of Jews decided that if they created the one-god-doctrine ... that all people on earth would have to join their religion ... if the devotees expected to have a bliss-filled afterlife.
That plan was doomed to backfire ... when the first Christians branched off Judaism to (hint) that Jesus had betrayed his own Jewish people by leaving Judaism behind as being filled with lies ... to in turn favor only Christian doctrine. In the 4th century ... Catholics (with the military support of the Roman Emperor Constantine) became the predominant group of Christians and published their bible as being the one God's one and only truth.
In the 7th century AD ... the religion of Islam became the offshoot of Judaism and Christianity ... claiming that THEY were the chosen few of the one god.
Had the Jews (Hebrews) way back in history kept believing in many gods ... the Abrahamic religions of Judaism, Christianity and Islam would not exist ... and the wars between Jews, Christians and Muslims could never have occurred ... to continue on to this very day.
What a shame that those first Jews (Hebrews) thought they could get away with creating the story that only one god existed ... and that THEY were his CHOSEN FEW.
We will probably never know when the myths of religions started ... but we should know *in this era ... that if humans were to go extinct ... religion itself would instantly be extinct ... as there wouldn't be any humans left on earth ... to keep on spreading the mental imaginary dis-ease.
