  • A first for me, this Pepperwood from Pennsylvania displays a beautiful grain pattern along with colors and a really great orange bark. Pretty easy to turn, I'm glad I have the second half of this log to give a whirl another time.

Well, folks, I just don't know what to say. You are overwhelming me with your great comments and believe me, it's truly appreciated! I am reading them all and enjoying the process. The problem is, I simply can't keep up anymore and I feel terrible about that. It's not that I'm feeling sick, it's just all the accompanying appointments and other arrangements I feel I should make before I MIGHT be sick. So, I guess I won't be replying to most comments but please know, I'm reading them and loving them! ❤

Phil I know you have heard this a thousand times but you are the best of instructors I’ve had the pleasure of sitting under. I know as usual you’ll brush it off but I can be in a bad mood or something and can sit down and watch your video and it has a most calming affect - almost therapeutic in a sense. You have a most calming way of turning and it’s easy to see what you’re doing and that’s where the learning takes place. You’re never in a hurry and you walk us through the turning it’s almost like we’re there doing it. I’m so glad we have your videos to access any time we want settle our nerves and enjoy a good bowl turning. Thanks for being here for us. By the way we’ll forgive you that one little over site with the sanding. If you hadn’t said something most people wouldn’t have noticed it. Take care & best of health!

Wow, dropping another video on my wife's 65th birthday!! I grew up with a big pepper tree in our backyard. Never considered it may look so nice inside. We mostly cussed it a lot because it was so messing and the sap was always getting on my clothes. Now I wish I had a piece of that tree. (maybe for my birthday).

Apparently, it's also known as Oregon Myrtle. It's in the Laurel family (i.e. bay laurel) and has a poor strength to weight ratio. Apparently, heart rot is common in the logs and tear out and burning are common when working it with power tools.
