I love that there is a tribute to a place that has holds such memories for so many, but there are a few glaring omissions here, among them: Marie's was a haven for so many people during the height of the AIDS epidemic that was decimating the musical theater community in NYC during the 80's and 90's. We were losing so many friends at the time, and our one community "happy place" was Marie's. And gosh, all those bartenders who MADE the place are, sadly, not honored in this video. And hello, where is Maggie? The Queen of Marie's!!! That belting voice could be heard all the way to the square states when she sang "When You're Good to Mama."
This made me ache to be there again, especially as it featured people (Adam, Roberta) that I met on my all too few visits (damn living in Europe). Marie's felt like home and inspired things that I've done since. I love you.
I am from San Francisco and i can remember being there in the late 80's and I love it. I just wish we could have somewhere here in SF where they was a bar like that.
Shortly after I came out in 1986, I went to New York and some gay friends took me to Marie’s Crisis. I have been there many times since. So many happy memories.
Not understanding the popularity of this place. Seems like a place for aspiring Broadway performers. But, just naively singing in a bar to release frustrations and forget rejection won't cut it. They need to be out there day and night fighting for their place.
Practice makes perfect…have you ever heard of that? You must not be a singer…naively singing in a bar? No, they aren’t doing that…they are singing just for the pure joy of singing…that’s heaven!

I've seen this video a dozen times and that ending still gets me
This place will always have a special place in my heart.
It’s the only place that will cheer me up when I’m down. Means the world to me.

That bearded guy who is sitting in the corner, looking pensive during "All That Jazz" is hilarious.
