I could be your Mom (age wise) & can relate to this, fully. My family had no money. I didn’t have a good relationship with either of my parents at the time. I always worked so I had money (so I could party), fake ID, going out practically every night. I always dated older (toxic) men. The amount of alcohol I consumed prior to 21 is something I’m not proud. I put myself in multiple dangerous situations. Bad stuff happened during those years. I’m grateful to be alive, I’m lucky.
Thank You for sharing all of this. I’m sure there are many people who feel seen, myself included.
I’m older now. My son isn’t much younger than you (22). I’m so incredibly grateful that we have (always have) a great relationship. I’ve always been honest with him. I had him relatively young (VERY early 20’s), raised him on my own, we grew up together in a sense. I’m sure your loved ones are very proud of where you are today. I’m just a random Mom in YT land and I’m proud of you. Keep shining your bright light. ♥️

Heyy Becca! I’m so saddened by your story and I’m so sorry you grew up in such a dysfunctional household! It is NOT normal for your mum to choose her bf over you and kick you out without trying to understand WHY you were hurting so much (aka numbing your inner pain with alcohol and partying)!! Any parent capable of truly loving their child and being in touch with their own emotions would have attuned to you and sought out a mutual solution!! Same for your dad! This sounds like hell!
Also, you kept saying you looked for your ex bf in other guys you dated and I can’t help but hear in this that you were actually looking for a father figure (also in your first bf) because your parents couldn’t be that for you, and you projected that into your first bf instead of truly seeing the root within the lack of love, stability and reassurance from your dad and mum… sure, looking back we know what choices would’ve been smarter, but as you rightfully acknowledge you were so young and at that age our brains aren’t fully matured and you (we all) didn’t know better and worked with what we had! So don’t blame yourself!! ❤️❤️ Also, of course your parents we’re caught in their own trance and unable to see you truly. They did what they could at the time, which was super abusive and damaging. I’m sure you are talking to your therapist about this already :)
I just want to say I’m so proud of how far you have come, making it though all those hardships!! :) No child deserves to be treated like this. And money issues might make is more challenging for sure, but it doesn’t bring out the worst in everyone. Your parents seem to have let out their resentments and anger on you, unable to see that your behaviour was a cry out in pain, in need of nurturing and care. Unfortunately toxic behaviour occurs across all tax brackets, and fortunately healthy and loving relationships as well!

Just to add: Our parents, and everyone really who behaves harmful towards others in small and large ways, has a hurt child within that never received the love and care it needed, carrying around resentments, pain and fears. So I have compassion for everyone going through stuff!! When we mature it becomes our responsibility to take care of our wounds and heal as to not pass them on to others, or our children. You’re doing great, keep going 💫
Alcoholism should not be glamorized.

im from cbus so the tea spill about the bar you worked at is killing me 😂
I started mine late..finally sober at 30. But didn’t get into my “party era” until 26 and it continued until 29. Gave me so many mental health issues and relationship issues. Never start.
My extreme party era was 18-30 and it was UGLY! There were some great times and not so great times. Thank God I'm still alive but it certainly took its toll (at least I still LOOK good). I'm 47 now and am in bed by 10 pm. Luckily, for me, there was no social media! 😅
Me too girl except I didn't get invited to parties and my school didn't have frats or sororities so I blacked out in my room by myself every night 🥰
